@@Salfordian I've got to agree with Andrew here. Obviously, I too have heard it here in the UK as an insult to a woman, but that's very much an American import word, and relatively recently. That meaning was created in the USA. No one would dispute that is also a legitimate modern definition of the word, but in Britain the word tramp has always referred to a homeless person. It came about many years ago when 'vagrants' were not allowed to sleep in the same place twice and had to put a certain distance between one sleeping place and another. This led to them having to spend a great deal of every day walking, or 'tramping', between towns and cities.

I don't know if this is common knowledge now but mb in the 1960s there was a phrase "the 'it' crowd" and it basically meant the celebs of the day, ie the people who were 'it'. There were a whole bunch of phrases that old farts like Graham Linehan (and me) would have internalised but which are now long forgotten. This would have been already on the cusp of memory when The IT Crowd first came out and used I.T. as pun.

Nice reaction! Glad to see you're adopting a more open minded approach.... although your phrase "I'm willing to laugh at that" is still a bit concerning. Laughter surely is/should be a natural spontaneous response to a funny situation... not something that requires an internal debate over whether you're allowed to or not. Anyway, very much looking forward to your reaction to the next episode: hoping you can take it in your stride and appreciate it without any mental gymnastics, or will you have to rename your channel "Neil Preaches"?! lol Good luck :)

Neil, in know you are sensitive to the PC culture that we have now and the controversial nature of Graham Linahan. In Linahan's defense, he was a harsh critic of the Tavistock Clinic in London that provided transitional drugs and surgeries for people transitioning to another sex. It has been forced to close down recently for dubious practices and many ex-patients are suing them for damage done to them. Graham was recently on GB News (I think it was) and the interviewer asked him if he felt exonerated now that the clinic was shut down. His opposition to what went on there was one of the causes of the backlash against him, as i understand. I think he is genuinely concerned about the plight of children who find themselves in this situation. Despite the occasional controversial moments in this show, as seen through today's eyes, I will continue to enjoy this show fully, and your great reactions to it. In my everyday life I meet too many serious, unhappy people who are jaded and humorless. I vow never to be one of them. Much love from Ireland.
