The Scariest Vlog I've Made Yet! Sending Dirty Lines At Shipley Glen

Күн бұрын

After riding at Radical Bikes I headed back up to Yorkshire and to one of my old local spots and one of my favourite places in the UK...Shipley Glen.
I used to ride here most weekends and never got bored of it so it was great to go back and have a morning to explore and find some fun stuff to ride.
The ride was really fun but for some reason I ended up finding the most scary lines I've done in years! I always liked horrible roll-downs but this ride took them to a new level.
I realise that riding alone can be dangerous but Shipley Glen is a popular climbing and walking spot so there's always someone nearby, but that said PLEASE DON'T COPY MY LINES! Not unless you're confident and capable at least.
It's also good to be back on the Hex!
I met up with Jack Carthy after I finished filming this and made a video with him which will be out soon.
I'd love to know what you think.
Thanks for watching

I hit a dirt jump (w/ a hard stone run out) and missed getting a foot back on 2 weeks ago on my trail bike while out completely alone in the woods. Had just enough adrenaline to phone my family and tell them what happened (they know the jump track as I showed them prior) between the ringing subsiding and before I forgot what day it was! half face helmet is toast but 100% saved my life. ended up breaking a bone in my wrist into 3 pieces as well as elbow fracture/ multiple cracked ribs/concussion. I've ridden alone for 20 years and consider myself an expert bike handler but I fucked up 1 time on a jump I've ridden over 100 times. It's ALWAYS worth having some device like a hands free phone or a location update for Friends and family (there are even apps where if your phone senses abrupt jolts and then zero movement it will contact an emergency phone no) Lets say I'm reconsidering my previous choices big time now. Stay safe people it can and will go sideways at some point! It will never stop me from it as I don't know many others who like to ride daily but I'm for sure going to tell my immediate circle of every place I ride from now on. Not trying to be a downer or jinx anything but I think we can often think lightning will never strike...Be prepared when it does.

thats about as hardcore as trials get i can confidently say that i'd be scared to even stand near the edges of those massive rocks let alone do any sorts of precise jumping. but then again im scared of heights and different scenarios trigger the anxiety in different ways. sometimes im fine being 15m above the ground and sometimes 1.5m makes me feel dizzy and uneasy. mad respect to you

@@Ali_Clarkson keep it up, i feel like you're really underrated, all the glory seems to just go to the other big guys, which feels a bit unfair. they are more "public" and hence popular, but you don't seem to be very far off in terms of skills. i hope your channel catches the wind it deserves. your in-depth comprehension and abilities to pass the knowledge about tricks and such, is next to none as well. and you're a very humble and likeable character. consider this a congratulation on 100k subs. you're amazing, stay motivated and keep working hard even when it gets tough. cheers

Awesome stuff, Ali! Too scary! Had a question for you about your bike choice. My take is that you switched from Arcade to Hex for the 26” tires. If Arcade came in 26” would you ride Hex or Arcade? (I ride an Arcade).
@Ali_Clarkson

Thanks! I think 26” wheels just ride trials a little better at the sacrifice of “tricks”, I do like the look of steel frames but I’m happy enough with the Hex, I would happily ride either

Some of the new electric trials bikes have both brakes on the handle bars, since they have no clutch, so you might do well on one of those. Obviously, however, you don’t seem to need any more power than your own body conjures up. Very inspirational.

Not as easy as that, firstly there’s the cost...I’d have to buy a new camera, mic and tripod, then there’s the bulk... currently I keep my main camera on its tripod in my bag for ease of use, I’d probably not film as many lines if it meant unpacking and repacking lots of equipment each time. I’d also need a bigger bag which also means it’ll weigh more. I already get bad nerve pains in my neck and shoulders when carrying a bag so if it weighed more I’d probably not ride as far. The last negative is just having multi expensive items when out riding on my own in potentially sketchy places. Just filming lines a couple of times is the best compromise for me even if it’s sometimes a little scary...at least repeating lines means I get more practice and helps me become a better rider

Ali,I have a question for either you or Adam.. Did Bianchi buy out crescent? I remember being at the Red Bull bike battle in Nottingham, with sam wheeler, Jon fisher, Tarty (Adam) and a few others. One of the riders in the competition (may even have been jj gregorowicz.. sp?) was on a Bianchi, but it looked like a crescent, even had the chequered design around the seat area that the newer orange and black crescents had, but it was white and mint green paint job, with Bianchi on it. I think it was tarty who mentioned they bought crescent, but I'm not sure? Or was it a case of him riding a crescent re branded as a Bianchi due to them not having a trials frame? Sorry it's such a long question! Cheers

Depends what type of trials you wanna do...inspired have what are considered the best bikes and something like the Flow is ideal to start on but is a bit more expensive (you are less likely to break it or need to upgrade it though so it’s a good price in the long term). If you want to do more competition style riding then something like an Echo would be good... either way have a check on www.tartybikes.co.uk and see what they’ve got, they’d be happy to answer any questions you may have too :)

That helmet cam really doesn’t do it justice. That second angle really shows how crazy it is. All helmet cam drops look like they are 2-3 feet instead of +6 when filmed further away.

Yeah it’s a shame, I’m glad I had the other camera to compliment the GoPro shots

Remember that you don't want to ride a street trial bike on such terrain unless you earn money with video blogs.

"Yeah, that was disgusting" the movie. I think I was complaining quite recently, that I haven't seen properly scary horror movie in long time. Now I have. It's bit like Alien, seemless blend of super scary and super beatiful / elegant. Pardon me, I seem to be in the need of fresh pants.

Is that the well known gritstone bouldering area? Do those drops take a toll on your knees?
@Ali_Clarkson
@Ali_Clarkson 4 жыл бұрын
It is very well known for climbing yeah :) oddly I don’t get any issues with my knees with the drops, I did get a slightly sore neck, I think the extra weight of the GoPro was enough put a little extra strain on me
