In this video, I will share with you how I make a pentagonal lamp surrounded by butterflies. The tracing paper gives impressive shadows of the butterfly wings. This lamp is great for your room decor.
After cutting out the butterfly template and attaching the tracing paper, be sure to wait for the glue to dry before creasing into the lampshade units. Tracing papers glide easily on wet glue, resulting in excessive wrinkling.
Please also follow the video step by step when you cut the butterfly. As the cutting is very intricate, you will work on the small fine areas before performing big cuts to avoid the template moving around.
This lamp measures about 17 cm in height and 25 cm in width.

Hi Barcha, thanks for the comment and great to know that you would make this lamp. The template 2 serves as an outline for you to cut out the tracing paper for the butterfly. Hence you only see a rectangle.

you could use baking paper instead of tracing paper which would be heat proof. :)

Good thinking.. the baking paper is the cousin of tracing paper. However, it needs to be flattened from the roll before being used.

Hi there.. I would place this lamp close to the window or greenery.. as the butterflies suggest nature. However, I think it also works wonder in the bedroom. If it is a party, it is definitely best close to where the nature is. If you do not use it as a pendant, I am afraid you will have to source out a battery powered light. Small tea lights will not be bright enough to show significance. I hope this helps.

Hi there.. yes anywhere between 5W - 15W is great. Please use a LED light bulb for this to maximise the strength of the light.

Tracing paper emits a very nice glow of the light inside. The cellophane will give you color but not great effect. Also, you will see the globe inside if you use cellophane, which can be disturbing. You you wish to add color, try to combine the tracing paper and cellophane.

You will need to prepare the long strips at the end, so A3 papers are much more handy then A4.

Vishwajeet Nikam don't use the normal paper for writing of printing. Use cardboard paper that u will get in any craft store because the normal printing paper is really thin and will ruin ur hard work but cardboard paper is a little thicker and foldable.

Sticking with double-sided tape ensures the fixation of the template such that it does not move around during the cutting.

I'd love to answer your questions. First of all, I am not sure whether the printer can take up thick watercolor papers. 250 gsm paper is quite thick. For 600 gsm cardboard for inner support, it is impossible to print directly. Even it is printed successfully on 250 gsm paper, the paper will not be straight and flat after coming out of the printer roller. Secondly, the lines of the print would not look good on the lamp, as it is impossible to stay precise all the time when you perform the cuts. I hope these answer your questions.

That will turn out great too. The butterflies will look great when the light is on. However, in daylight, butterflies may be less conspicuous.

Hi Lisa, I am not sure about how your computer prioritises the software for pdf. Find your pdf files after downloads and just open the pdf file with your web browser. That should work.
