Butterflies versus Moths! Are they really that different? Here are Six differences between you might not have known:
Number One, their Antennae: Butterflies usually have thin, long antennae with small knobs on the end, while moths often have feathery or comb-like antennae.
Number Two, their Wings: Butterflies tend to have more colorful wings with patterns that are easy to see. Moths' wings can also be colorful, but they might have more muted colors or patterns that help them blend into their surroundings.
Number Three, their Activity: Butterflies are mostly active during the day, fluttering around flowers and gardens. Moths, on the other hand, are often seen at night, attracted to lights or searching for food in the dark.
Number Four, their Resting Position: When at rest, butterflies usually fold their wings up vertically over their backs. Moths typically rest with their wings spread out flat.
Number Five, their Body Shape: Butterflies often have slender bodies, while moths can have a wider range of body shapes, including chunkier bodies or fuzzy ones.
Number Six, Cocoon vs. Chrysalis: When they're in the pupa stage, butterflies form a chrysalis, which is smooth and hard. Moths usually create cocoons, which are wrapped in silk and might have bits of leaves or other materials stuck to them.
