It wasnt enough that Butterfree showed up. It wasn't enough that Butterfree actually accomplished something. No, it had the audacity to convince me that it's good! This series might be what finally gets me to try competitive Pokémon. There are a lot of things I like about ADV, so this might be the one I dive into first.
@jazzercise300 Жыл бұрын
It's honestly the best way to get into comp pokemon as a whole. I started with gen 5 OU which is NOT the way to learn. Gen 3 is the most simplified version of the modern meta there is. ADV OU is the best way to learn the basics of team building. Learning all the specific interactions really gives you a feel for how it all works and there aren't 200 pokemon to account for (out of a 1000 total maybe 1/5th are viable in gen 9. I made up that number too, idk the meta well enough to account for every niche so im guessing) In ADV OU half the mons in OU arent even super common anymore (cloyster, charizard, etc) so really you just have to account for Suicune, celebi, jirachi, blissey, the psuedos legendaries (except dragonite), zapdos, swampert, gengar, aero, skarm, and maybe 3 or 4 others plus certain moves (toxic, focus punch, earthquake, rock slide, the elemental 95bp/100% acc attacks, spikes, rapid spin, will o wisp, hidden power(s)). Seems like a lot reading it but it's really not tbh. Takes a week or two or less to get the hang of. Then from there check out DPPt UU and Ubers. You learn those 3 formats and you can learn any format imo. Source: a garbage pokemon trainer i.e. me
@BigBoneBusiness Жыл бұрын
@@jazzercise300 Honestly, the biggest appeal for me with gen 3 is both the simplicity and lack of stealth rock. Stealth rock seems like a massive headache to account for in the team builder. Gen 3 at a glance has a lot of other little things going on that I really like so I think I'd probably stick to that if I do get into it.
@jazzercise300 Жыл бұрын
@@BigBoneBusiness I heard someone bring up the idea of stealth rock being a version of spikes that only hits flying/levitate mons. Making its damage based on rock resistance was a terrible design choice. Made so many pokemon unviable overnight. Idc as much about it now tbh but gens 4-6 (never played 7) it makes team building a little more lame having to account for tht so much. Same with scald. Knock off is ridiculous now too. Stealth rock the OG bullshit move tho.
@lisan3627 Жыл бұрын
@@jazzercise300Rocks is singlehandedly what pushed me into playing ADV. I think it's ridiculous how much that single move warps pokemon viability.

Funny Detail: The Beat Up at 14:51 is actually pretty revealing of shyeep's remaining pokemon. In vanilla this would literally reveal the pokemon by nickname for each attack, but this was purposely patched to prevent metagaming around nicknames. Showdown already disallows nicknames that match existing Pokemon to prevent confusion, so this isn't too large a stretch from that. Each hit of Beat Up uses the stats of other members of the party when dealing damage. These damage values are decided by the Base Attack Stat of the Pokemon. These hits do not take into account any of those party pokemon's EVs, IVs, or natures, meaning the deduction can be relatively precise. The 6 different attacks did 16%, 12%, 10%, 10%, 9%, and 1% damage. 1% is a dead giveaway that there's a Blissey. There is nothing in the metagame that comes even close to 10 Base Attack; the next lowest Attack stat from anything relevant is 50. (Alakazam, Regice, Jynx) 16% is an outlier on the opposite end, representing a Pokemon with exceptionally high Attack. This represents one of the pokemon that hits around a Base 130 Attack, relevant suspects including Tyranitar, Metagross, Gyarados, Breloom, Machamp, and of course Salamence. The next highest value at 12% can safely be assigned to Swampert, as it has significantly higher attack than the other two revealed pokemon (110 vs 80, 70). For the remaining three values, even if you are unsure of whether or not the last Pokemon represents a 10% or 9% damage hit, you can safely assume that it would be a pokemon with an Attack stat between around 60 and 85. That range encompasses a whole lot of potential pokemon, but at least rules out just as many possibilities, most notably pokemon you might not think of as physical attackers like Zapdos (90), Moltres (100), Cloyster (95), or Jirachi/Celebi (100). If you do assume correctly that the 9% roll is from the unrevealed Pokemon, and thus consider that the last pokemon must have below 70 Base Attack, that gives even more information. You can be certain that last isn't Suicune, Starmie, Charizard, Skarmory, and several other relevant threats, only leaving a few options left. Gengar is normally a certainty in this position, but on a team with Calm Mind + Baton Pass, a last like Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Espeon wouldn't be too surprising a last.

New ADV offensive core, Butterfree/Electrode. Pikachu and Poliwrath enjoyers in shambles, Tyranitar fears for the loss of his throne, Zapdos "welcoming a challenge from a fellow electric type", Suicune interviewed and "worries for their position". No, really, you've gotta respect a sleep powder/ rain dance butterfree into thunder electrode. Hell, Electrode even counters Aerodactyl (with a bunch of SpA investment, at least, it can 1hko with Thunderbolt) and can pretty much paralyze any sweeper since it's faster. Not to mention that it has the fastest boom in OU, too. Thief Butterfree... I don't get ? Sure you weaken that aero noticeably but so is your butterfree.

Facade isn't proc'd by Sleep in any generation, not just 3, and the kind of set that Snorlax had is a common misconception even in modern gens. It's not because Sleep is volatile - it isn't - Facade just isn't compatible with it. I guess it sort of makes sense from a lore perspective because unlike the statuses that trigger it, Sleep isn't directly 'painful' to the Pokemon. However, Facade isn't compatible with Freeze either, which seems a bit more questionable, unless it is considered to be like a cryogenic sleep...
