As a proud Butterley employee for over 20 years from Machine Shop apprentice to Works Engineer it was so sad to see the demise. The asset strippers really kicked into action around 2003 and purposely, in my opinion, employed inadequate directors, the likes of which John Exon would not employ to wash his car lest run the Butterley Company. One of these guys, before Martyn Meade “employed” him as MD actually ran a company that’s sole existence was to operate 3 bathroom sales outlets, I kid you not! He went on to be demoted to General Manger however, not before closing the Machine Shop down completely - Job Done! I had the last laugh on him, which was rather satisfying. It’s a shame some of these parasites were not left in No.10 shop when it was collapsed. Since the 2003 era of cost cutting and corner cutting I tried to protect the Butterley tradition of quality alas my determination ultimately led to my ejection from the Company on spurious grounds. I wish all the genuine Butterley men and women all the best and the others I hope you get what you deserve.

Good mix of Butterley achievements and 'the end'. Even managed to get one of my pics in there!

This is very sad. Nice photos added which make it more upsetting. Usual sadness and anger! We seem to good at dismantling things these days. When you think of all that history.... could be totally forgotten about in a few generations time.

From what I have gleaned, it was bought out for its order book and asset stripped. Shameful!
