Button polish. Making up a stock solution ready for French Polishing

What color of Shellac is that? Dark purple?

Hi Paintstorm1 The shellac I am using is called button polish which is to be dissolved in alcohol. Industrial alcohol is available to the general public in a denatured form. One type is clear the other dyed purple. It is better to use the clear type if it is available in your country as the is no dye in it

Orrrrrrrrrr, just buy a bottle or Rustins Button polish...

Of course, when you opt for Rustin's, you then lose the ability to select which buttons are used. Further, once the shellac is dissolved in alcohol, the esterization process begins. Control over the specific buttons used and the freshness of the mixture make the process detailed in this video worth the effort.
