Hi Melody Willoughby, If you want to make it longer, I would suggest you to continue the pattern using a larger size crochet hook after the waistline to make the garment wider from the bottom. I believe two balls of the yarn would be enough for the project for the size L. Happy crochet!

You may use a larger size crochet hook or thicker yarn. 2. Work 2 or more rows before joining front and back parts together. 3. When joining front and back parts together, you may work the whole flower into each corner instead of half flower. 4. Add more repeats to your initial foundation chain. One repeat is 6 chains. It will be necessary to add one repeat to each front part and two repeats to the back part. Happy crochet!

Work increase rows until your two front and back part will be wide enough to the chest circumference (leave some room for growth).
