There is no other countertenor like Jakub. He has chosen his own way of singing and challenges all the conservative purists in term of sound, technique, expression etc. His has been following his chosen path in spite of many obstacles. He is a true, charismatic artist who is not afraid of expressing his emotions while demonstrating his unique, masculine and "angelic" voice which is a rarity in countertenors (to be honest). He is very flexible, innovative and opens the gates of the unknown to thousands (if not millions) listeners. He has attracted young generations to Baroque. That makes him so special in the world of art these days. Jakub and the circle of his creative friends are not afraid of different genres of music. They always create something very interesting and engaging. Thank you for your fantastic, open-minded and detailed reaction.

This song is actually a anthemn of one of the Polish cities, Łódź (famous for textile and fabric production back in the day - which is fitting given the lyrics)

Mr Orliński's diction is perfect, every word is sung perfectly, you can hear every letter clearly. A masterpiece. I also recommend listening to the queen of Polish diction: Anna German(spinto soprano): "Tańczące Eurydyki" or "Człowieczy Los". Beautiful songs.

You're absolutely right about his pronunciation. He's pronunciation is on a level of a well trained actors - clear and I can understand each and every word he's signing - which is not that common in opera singers.

Hello Jess! Compliments of the Season! Thanks for introducing us to this somewhat unusual piece. I see your point about looking at a piece from a different angle and coming up with a different flow and experience even as the lyrics stay the same. This is also my first confirmed listen to two countertenor voices, so I can distinguish them from other singers who may seem to blur the lines (like Dimash). Apart from Jakub's obvious singing though, that pianist is exceptional!

You are more than correct about his pronunciation. Polish language is all about the consonants so actors and singers are focusing on them a lot during their training.

Polish pronunciation in the end of the words is very difficult for singing (You may want to check "Symphony III" of Górecki). He does it perfectly. He is also a breakdancer and in one of youtube films he explains that is partially to be stronger. One need strength to have this power in their breath!

Thank you for highlighting this song. Whish I could give you more likes. I also like this song a lot. As for the Weavers, the song should also be placed in historical context (aside from the love aspect) where a girls "worth" was measured by her ability to spin unbroken thread. Her skill equaled her worth as a future wife.

The translation of the title should be "The Weavers" or "the spinning wheel weavers". I hope it shows also how bold they took their own inerpretation. The threads on spinning wheels is here a methapore of love (memory in the lyrics is about "memory of the boy / lover's vowes") , so girls actually spend time making for themselves fabrics of men's love... Creepy or cute?

As someone who is normally placed as a Bass/Baritone because of my low notes, I LOVE counter tenor parts and pieces since I have a very high mixed and head voice and those parts often fit perfectly within it, and I love listening to high tenors or counter tenors, especially Jakub and imitating their tone to help me to sing more clearly then making their technique my own. Now I just have to find a director who will place me as a counter despite me having really low notes they always want more of 🤣

This song is a metaphore. It's not really just about spinning silk. It expresses a loving young man's sorrow over his unrequited love. Thus the meaning of girl's memory reference (who remembers him no more).

Because polish has so many consonants and all of them are pronounced in everyday speech, it is hard to butcher the pronunciation even when singing. It is probably also the reason why Polish pronunciation is slowly-evolving and not many accents exist (unlike, for example with English in the UK where the accent changes every 30 miles)

The issue is, that as a Pole I hardly understand what he sings. I am not a music expert, but I don´t think this should be the way. I would prefer, if he would use the Polish pronounciation i.e. stress is almost always on the penultimate (next-to-last) syllable. Even if this is not standard, as this kind of music is Italian or German. It makes no sense to me , when lyrics are some gibberish accompanied by classic music.
@Stan-j3j
@Stan-j3j Жыл бұрын
Singing is different to speaking a language. Hence the stress sometimes is moved, forced by the melody and harmony. I am a Pole and contrary to you, I could distinguish and understand every single word he sang. No problem at all.
