I own 3 out of 10 but as Barron's point out picks should not be considered 12 months holding (they almost never manager to outperform the market over that much time). Good idea putting side-by-side dividend and FCF CAGRs but I have not understood why you didn't mention the couple of cases where dividend CAGR was growing faster than FCF one.

I don't understand the Moderna call - it has one product on the market, one, and there's little demand for it. The pipeline won't reward investors for years, if at all. It's inclusion makes no sense whatsoever.

I do not understand why people are scared to invest in Chinese companies like BABA but have no problem buying into US companies that heavily rely on China and/or their consumers. It's nearly the exact same risk. LVMH, SBUX, LULU, NKE, NVDA, AAPL, etc all share the same "China risk". Most list the Chinese consumer as their primary growth driver in their 10Ks. Any interruption in that market directly effects not only those companies but the entire world. They are the second largest economy and nearly everything consumed in the West originates from there. There is no alternative and no avoiding it, seems like it will be a giant missed opportunity for most.

Easy. All of their "public" companies are owned by a one party state, and they all serve that state's interests and agenda (Jack Ma learned that lesson as well). There is a huge difference between American companies leveraging Chinese consumers to maximize growth, versus investing in Chinese company stocks competing in international markets. China has long prioritized quantity over quality in the goods they export, and now with a shrinking and aging labor force, a struggling economy, a track record lacking transparency, and a shift towards deglobalization, investors should be rightfully cautious.

I will never understand how any investor would even consider any stocks from China…political tensions between China and the US aside…China has inner turmoil due to „the party“ and an even bigger economic crisis going on there than in the West… Sometimes stocks are „undervalued“ for a reason. 😅
@rodri1304118 күн бұрын
Everything answers to a different reason. Maybe they want to win exposure to non us stocks (considering that the us debt is very high, and we are not seeing any possible downturn, so there will be higher inflation risk and the dollar will weaken), maybe even if they have been down, they are really undervalued so there is a lot of upside potential (their P/E is very low compared to us, so they are a market more fairly priced where they can put their money). You can make a strong case on chinese stocks.
@mikaelsmith360518 күн бұрын
@ Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. ☺️ I get the theory, but yet the very high risk remains. If people want to hedge with non-US stocks, why not pick up European ones? A lot of UK stocks are heavily discounted atm and even Germany has some hidden gems in the insurance business. Poland is a machine atm with high upside potential 🤔 …I get that Europe isn’t perfect, but I would still consider any EU country more stable than China 🤔

@@rodri13041China’s economy is in trouble. There is a reason they have announced massive stimulus programs. Projections show deflation on the horizon. Looking to China because America has debt is like jumping in front of a train to avoid the guy on a bicycle. Granted, there are always individual stocks that may do well, but Chinese stocks do not attain the same P/E’s as American stocks for a reason. The American markets are the place the world goes because our companies have strict reporting standards, a track record of mostly unencumbered growth, and stable government policy behind them. Foreigners are allowed to own stock in the US. That is not the case in China. You probably own shares in a VIE - which is not like a depository receipt, where a bank holds shares and manages exchange rates. It’s a holding company registered off shore specifically to circumvent Chinese laws. It wouldn’t be entirely out of character for the CCP to enforce its laws and deny they have any legal tie to the companies they represent. Is that likely? I don’t know. Getting hit by lightning isn’t likely, but I don’t run around with a large metal pole during a storm, either. Does this mean I think Baba is a terrible idea? No. I just don’t think the risk outweighs the reward right now. They’re on the same list I put SMCI - the “if it smells funny, avoid it” list - which sometimes becomes the “I could have doubled my money” list or sometimes the “dodged a bullet “ list.

Hong Kong investor here. The Chinese economy is up 500% in the last 17 years, but if you would have invested in the Chinese market 17 years ago you'd have lost 33%. The Shanghai Composite Index was at 6,092 in October 2007. It last closed on Friday at 3,400 American investors make a huge mistake of using the same metrics they use to assess US companies as they do to assess Chinese companies. Big mistake. Chinese stocks are a fools game (even though I'm still holding some in the HK market), and I see KZbin is again hyping BABA. It's down 60% in the last five years for a reason people, it's not the fundamentals.

Barrons has struggled to outperform the market for the last 10 years! So it would be hard to go with this list. They have had some good picks, but not worth following there picks due to previous track record.
