We are at the US Sport aviation expo 2019 in Sebring Fl. At the Jabiru aircraft booth, I met this nice fella looking to sell his airplane, a Jabiru J230 which he’s flown for 2 years.
At first glance, I thought this airplane is brand new. I mean it looks brand new. But it is used and clearly the owner here has taken real good care of it. And the airplane barely has 500 hours on it.
It is a light sport aircraft, but also a legitimate cross country aircraft with a range of 600 miles or more. The Jabiru engine performs well, with cruise speeds in the 120 kts and climbs between 800ft and 1100ft per minute. Not a bad deal for $76,500.
I should also mention that you will always find more of these great deals, awesome kit builds and light sport aircraft at the sport aviation expo in Sebring.

Why keep it as a light sport? Build a kit, register it as experimental and take advantage of extra weight allowance.

Boy, someone saw you coming! How about a used Cessna 172 for $30-40,000, or a Grumman TR2, 2 seater to build time for $18-30,000. There are so many planes for sale for far less than $80,000, and all with decent engines like Lycoming and Continentals. Don't waste your money on a new Sport Aviation aircraft. Go to "Barnstormer.com" to find at least 1000 planes for sale. I have bought two this way, and have NEVER been sorry!

My fascination with this breed of aircraft has been the right hand PIC setup. I always struggled with landings using my left hand and for some reason it is discouraged to fly from the right seat even if you have dual avionics. This is one of the few aircraft out there with a stick in the center console so you can fly in the left seat but use your right hand to control.

Nice looking bird. If not for the oceanic bullshit overhead to get a license here in Denmark, I'd contemplate something like that. It seems to have good qualities. I'm more of a low wing type because it looks cooler but it's pretty good.

I own a Jabiru LSA 55/3J with. 85 horsepower 4 cylinder Jabiru motor in it and I have flown that thing all over Australia, and Australia is BIG.

The very first jabiru engines had coolant issues. Now they are refined and experimental pilots put them in literally every experimental out there.

I wouldn't consider 120knots a realistic cross country plane. And for that money someone could build an RV that has real cross country speeds
