The Nikon P950 is the best camera ever made for my use. I shoot from 50 yards to 300 yards and the P950 gets the job done. I don’t see me buying another camera. It was only $700 used. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. ❤❤❤

the fact that the canon is so compact is probably why the cameras keep having lens error. I owned a canon sx40 and G3X and both gave me lens error after a couple of years

Having a Nikon B700, which I use for back yard and hiking bird/wildlife photography, and which is getting a bit long in the tooth, I have been looking at the P950 and the SX70 and wondering which way to go. Great comparison, and thank you for answering a question that everyone seems to ignore, how the burst modes actually work with the buffers and how they react in the camera. You deserve more subs. A couple years ago you had a great video of how to setup the Nikon 950/1000. I still use those settings and it made realize how awesome these Nikons are. Though not perfect they're pretty incredible. Thank you sir I'll keep watching and learning.

Video qaulity and timelapse up to 120 fps are Special. 4K Video uses a Crop. For birding it emulates up to 2000mm. Or use one of three raw Modes! for POSTPROCESSING work. Snappy from Macro to Moon captures. ❤

I use Canon Powershot SX1, SX60, SX70. All have Special Features. SX1 is still best in sunset Mode! SX60 has a hot shoe. SX70 uses a fully sychronicing Internal Flash in PASM up to a 1/2000 s. Wonderful.

SX70HS seems great. It has almost the same zoom capabilities but is a lot smaller. It has also better software. But why the hell they would remove hot shoe? Like why??

Stafford, great comparison. I own the Canon SX60hs and owned the Nikon P900. The 900 had a great lens but buffer blackout at the high motor drive speeds was a pain which is why I stuck with the SX60 and added a Canon SX70hs. Shooting JPEGS, both Canons provide a more useable motor drive experience and will provide good image quality even with digital telephoto use up to 104x, about the 35mm = of 2,100mm's. (I can't recommend 130x). Between the 60 and 70, though, I noticed the base ISO of 100 on the 70 seems more like 180 on the SX60. Both cameras benefit greatly from the improved EVF's. Thanks for revisiting these cameras.

@@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE I know you can't just run out and buy cameras to test BUT, if the opportunity presents itself, you might want to check out the Leica V-Lux V and/or the Sony RX10 Mk4. Both cameras feature 1-inch sensors and are about as close as I think we can come to MSLR in a bridge camera. I can recommend both of them.

Excellent video. I like when a comparison is made between to cameras listing the pros/cons and real-life scenarios each camera will perform better. Bird photography is one of my hobbies and I use a P950 for that. Is a very good camera and I love it BUT under certain conditions I wish I had an alternative. I have been looking around for a smaller option (I have a budget around $1.5K) and found the Nikon Z50 with the 2-lens kit (NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm and NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm) and for my needs it seems to be a good option. If anyone is familiar with this camera model and will like to give me some feedback about it, I’m all ears.

Shodan, one of my favorites for a cheap light weight camera is the Olympus em5 camera and the 300 mm f5.6 lens. This setup using the digital 2x zoom is killer for 1200mm of zoom. Just an FYI. Very hard to notice a difference between 600mm and the digital zoom at 1200.. I used it alot and one of my favorites for speed photography light weight reach and detail. Seem my zoom video comparison. It range pretty high up on the resolution chart... Thanks again and hope this helps. Also have a 1500 and less wildlife camera suggestions video as well. Hello, I’m looking for to get my first proper camera. I wanna take photos around my city, infrastructure and nature. I bike to get around. Which one would be more forgiving for a newcomer and which one would allow me more room to grow on?

ahh there is no perfect camera but you need to figure out how much you want to spend. Size of the camera , if you want a point and shoot or a mirrorless camera with extra lenses. I have so many questions that would have to fit your lifestyle. S0 all these camera work and take great photos it is if it fits you and your needs. So go with something affordable at first and work your way up in a few years. Believe me you will eventually want more gear as you progress on your journey. Wish I could help more.

Please help if you can. I had my P950 out yesterday and it would not fucus on anything beyond 700/800mm with the auto focus engaged. It, however, did focus while using manual focus in all zoom settings. I called Nikon and the tech told me that I have to use the manual focus beyond 700mm. I find this hard to believe. Thank You Joe B.

Nope it should focus at all focal lengths out to 2000mm. Look make sure you are not in macro focus that limits what you can focus on. Look for any strange focus settings like you are too close to the subject to focus on. So macro might effect your long distance focusing not sure. Look at your camera setting do a factory reset to make sure double check it. Once you manually focus on a subject switch back to auto focus with the switch and see it it will acquire focus. Might be something wrong with he camera but just to make sure before sending git in.

Thanks for the comparison. Its a good one! Personally, I went for the P950 because of the extra zoom. As a birder, any extra zoom is very welcomed. ;) Anyway, I also shoot in raw exclusively and processed the files using DXO Photolab, so the image quality is very acceptable up to ISO 1600. Size wise I'm ok since I always carry the camera in my backpack. However, as you have pointed out, the P950's 2 to 3 sec lockdown after a burst mode is something I don't appreciate. :(

Ill have to retry not sure, I know you can strip 4K photos from the video really easy within the camera it simple I prefer to do that because It is less shaky.

Good comparison. The P950 has been a great camera for me. I also have the Nikon A1000, and with the longer zoom of the SX70HS I wonder if it might be a better choice for casual birding. It would be great if you could compare the two smaller cameras. Thanks for the review.

I have both and the SX70 wins. Not so many focusing options but I am surprised at the performance of the SX70 considering the flack it gets. The high ISO also does not seem as bad vs Nikon as I expected. The lack of any image information in the A1000 always infuriated me if the image went wrong and you never knew if it was ISO, shutter speed, etc.. I had a Panasonic 45-175mm giving dual stabilisation with the G80 and was wondering whether to get a 100-300 as the reach if it was limited but this SX70 does the job and much more flexible than these narrow to even narrower field of view specialised lenses. A lot of this is because image quality is considered as not so good as the SX50 but we need to look at what we can get now and avoid all this plethora of retro comparison reviewing as the compact industry is struggling at the moment and in a different world. For the zoom the SX70 is very compact and a joy to handle. It looks like the Panasonic FZ82 has gone in the UK so it is a case of use it or lose it with what is left. Buying direct from Canon there is a 2 year warranty. The current Nikons are out of my price range and look rather large. The lack of hot shoe on the Canon is no problem as cold shoe brackets to mount a microphone are cheap. I will just use m43 for general and indoor and long zoom with the SX70.

@@michaeld5888 the P950 has given me some incredible pictures the A1000 I consider more of a take along snapshot camera with RAW capabilities, although shooting with Jpeg and using some digital zoom you can get good closeups but lack of detail. I had the Panasonic FZ300 last year and I finally sold it. The P950 blows it away. I've got to get my channel going again to show the results you can get out of it.

Canon SX 70, Sony RX10 IV or Panasonic FZ 1000 would be my choice because they perform better in low light and has better autofocus in video. Maybe some day any of these manufacturers release a similar camera with modern features and technology, better stabilizer, 4k120 1080p480 slowmo etc. and i probably get one as backup/video/alternative camera to my EOS R7. But to be my choice it has to be affordable, so more than 900$ i would not want to pay for a otherwise (aperture, sensor size, size/weight in general,...) limited superzoom camera. The thing is people, including you say "these cameras are so universal with this zoom lens"..... how so? - There is no or only very limited room for creative stuff (bokeh, except for macro stuff) - fixed lens = no chance of getting a fast prime or regular, smaller zoom lens on it. Literally stuck on a superzoom with mostly bad aperture range magnified by a small sensor and missing 3d-pop entirely. - weight/size, most modern mirrorless cameras you can just use a small/light lens and you can enjoy it even more than a P1000 or similar sized bridge/superzoom camera. Thankfully the manufacturers listened and there are not only small/light APS-C and MFT, but also small full frame mirrorless cameras to buy. Combined with also somewhat small and light mirrorless full frame prime lenses pretty awesome! - Image quality - yeah, some shots really came out awesome and i would not expect the P1000 or a small superzoom at all, But in general the P1000 images are just not great... small sensor + big ass superzoom lens = receipt for a boring, flat image

The normally how I do it is review the video of my 4K footage and there is an in camera editor that allows you to cut a picture out of the 4K video. I usually do it this way. Works pretty well just like the 4K photos mode on the panasonic cameras.
