As I was watching this video back I realized that I forgot to talk about the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8! If you’re thinking about a 70-200mm or something in that range be sure to also consider that Tamron lens because it’s supposed to be an absolute beast for court sports. Anyways that lens and everything else is linked in the description. Hope this video helps you out!

That’s what I’m thinking of trying to do. How did it go? I need 1 or 2 lens MAINLY for sports photography, possibly videography, mostly football “soccer”? And should mostly be in good lighting? What do you think? Or any recommendations? Thanks. 18-105 and a cheaper 55-210? Or just one? Thanks.

@@V1PERB3ATZ one of my favorite lenses ive ever used over a year later - cant beat the versatility. not the sharpest image but its super reliable in pretty much every setting. i have the 55-210 also - def spend the extra money for the 18-105. its a workhorse!

I own the Tamron 28-200. Absolutely love it. Sharp, super versatile, lightweight and small. I'm very interested in the 50-400 but I already own the Sony 200-600. I use my camera for photography only (landscape and birding)

Shot the 70-200 f4 for the first time on a football highlight this past week. Love the lens and can’t wait to add it to my kit. Renting it for the rest of playoffs and will buy it before baseball season. Currently debating between the Tamron 28-75 and the Sony 24-105 for basketball. Leaning to the 24-105 for the added range and OSS but not 100% sure.

That 70-200mm is definitely an awesome one to have in the kit! Either way both of those lenses are solid. Thanks for watching and all the best with the rest of playoffs!

I wonder if things like dynamic active stabe are game changers, to be able to use lenses like the Tamron 70-300 while still having a stable image handheld? - the 18-300 is an APS-C lens btw.

Hi Peter, thanks for your video... I used the Sony 70-200 f4 recently for a soccer game on the FX3.. close range results were amazing but I was really struggling with far distance shooting which was not sharp enough and the autofocus was not performing that well ... I shot with fixed F4, 120fps and a shutter of 240 ... my focus field might have been to narrow ... could recommend best settings for that lens to be able to get good results also for the distance ?
@petersarellas2 жыл бұрын
When I’m shooting football with the 70-200mm I’m always punched into crop sensor mode as it is too wide otherwise, so if you aren’t already doing so on your FX3 when using that lens I’d recommend giving it a try.
@PatNetCreationsDXB2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but that would mean only HD not 4k … I will try and check results… what about other settings like iris you recommend ? And focus field ?

Ok awesome!! I think it’s great that Tamron and Sigma have competitive, high-quality alternatives in that focal range.

I'm also interested in the 16-28. What worries me is the lack of internal sealing in the contemporary line. I don't understand why sigma doesn't do that when the competition does. Really annoying!

@@edc641 I had the 28-70 out in pretty much full rain and haven’t seen any issues after 2 months and 5 weddings since! It was enough rain that I was more worried about my camera than my lens lol with the 16-28 also being internal zoom I think it would be fine.

Sigma DG DN F2.8 28-70 is an INCREDIBLE lens (and my favourite over the years) BUT the Tamron F2.8 20-40 is also a FANTASTIC lens I’m for everything nowadays instead of GMi 24-70

I was thinking about the 70-200 f4 but since the 70-200 2.8 gm v1 is about a 500 dollar difference from each other would you reccomend the gm v1 or still the f/4?
@petersarellas2 жыл бұрын
As someone who has access to both and chooses to use the f4 for the video because of the smaller size id recommend the f4, though this is a personal preference so id recommend trying then both out and making your own decision if you can

All the experts slated the f2.8 GMi 70-200 for poor AF especially for shooting sports fyi

Keep up the brilliant work Peter! Quick one, is the lack of IBIS on the Tamron 28-75mm a deal breaker? I was looking to go for the Tamron 17-70mm cause I'm afraid the 28-75mm won't get the job done for me...

Honestly no it isn’t I use it regularly and that lens is wide enough that the lack of stabilization isn’t detrimental, especially when paired with a body with ibis

Hey Peter! I keep going back and forth on which camera I want. I really love the Sony a7iii but after watching your video with the Sony Fx30 it makes me want that too 😅. What’s the best affordable lens for the Sony a7iii vs. the Fx30? I primarily shoot basketball highlights.
@petersarellas2 жыл бұрын
If you’re shooting basketball and want one good lens I’d recommend getting something with a wide focal range like the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 or the 35-150 f2-2.8 (doesn’t have to be those exact lenses but something similar). That way you can get your tight shots and have a wide end whether youre using a full frame or crop sensor camera.

@CardsandCannabis Жыл бұрын
Most basketball is shot 70-85mm. Except for the close ups and in your face action where the players are falling into you. Since you have the A7 with stabilization, maybe look into the tamron 24-70mm for basketball. Especially if you already have a telephoto lens.

I've often wondered how bad the Tamron 70-180 is for video when it comes to holding it steady (especially if you're running in APSC mode at 270mm for 60fps on an A74) but I still haven't heard any first person accounts or seen any real footage. None of the moneypants channels have really tested that aspect out, everyone just assumes it's unworkable or assumes everything is fine.
@petersarellas2 жыл бұрын
If I had it I’d definitely give it a real-world test, but I’m honestly too on the fence to spend money on it because it doesn’t have image stabilization and I know how heavily I rely on that when shooting (kind of a vicious cycle). May have to get it and actually do a detailed test just for the channel at some point.

love your videos man, had a issue I was dealing with, I’m shooting on a Sony a6400 with a Sony 18-105, f4 120fps 1/250 ss and around 1000 iso, I always seem to get a lot of grain/noise when filming in hlg (which I really prefer to use since i bought your lut pack), any reason why I get so much grain/noise? Preciate you my guy!
@petersarellas2 жыл бұрын
Dang sorry to hear that. If you’re in an environment with sufficient lighting then that should be alright, though if you aren’t overexposing your image and are in a situation requiring low light then that may explain the issue. If that is the case then using a faster lens like an f2.8 may be the solution as you don’t want to bring the ISO too too high on the older crop sensor bodies
