The horrible thing is I had it pre-ordered for months when it was meant to be the normal collectors release. Then my order was cancelled because they decided to give it a revamp. Great review as always Keith. Definitely not impressed that the discs are in those slide in/out covers though. There’s a risk of scratching the discs I think. If it was me, I’d keep them in blank DVD cases for use and have the box for display purposes only.

Great minds think alike because that's exactly what I done when I finished shooting the video. I can't risk having those discs scratched. Another fantastic pick up Keith. Issues with the disc storage aside I agree this is a nice set. Those patches really do look amazing, as does the artwork, the directors note is a nice touch also, as is the storyboards booklet. Yeah I am happy with the edition it's just the price that I'm struggling to come to terms with. At least I had the €20 off but I can imagine how frustrated someone would be if they had to pay the full price. To be honest I wish they stuck to the original formula. The minute I knocked on the camera I knew I was going to compare it to North by northwest and I was right to do so. Interstellar should have looked like that release but unfortunately that's not what we got in the end. But it is a wonderful movie and it's nice to own a collector's release. I totally agree with you Keith. I cancelled my pre order once they changed it to this. I love the nix, but I really really hate the way these kind of sets houses the discs (for example the Godfather or Star Wars). Like you said, you have to put your fingers on the discs. Brrrr. And I agree on the booklet. Also with the other sets I really love Warner Bros, but the booklets really need write ups about the movie. I love the steelbook edition from a year or 2 ago. The 4K disc is exactly the same... Haven't been active in the comment section lately (my wife and me are expecting a baby early february)., but I watch Al your videos! Keep up the good work

I'm not especially keen on the super long box, either. Many of us don't have ideal shelving for that, and it just seems so unnecessary, like they decided that a big box would be more likely to justify a big price in people's minds. I would have preferred a shorter, fatter box, like the North by Northwest set.

A few people told me that Christopher Nolan was involved with this release. I'm not sure how true that is though. Fingers crossed the upcoming inception release is going to be back to the old way. I have absolutely no problem paying the €50 price tag for release like that. Can't say the same for the interstellar release. I try to be as honest as I can be when it comes to collectors releases and I felt this one simply wasn't worth the price especially when you consider everything you get with it. This release has been a roller coaster ride from the beginning. My first pre-order was cancelled only later to find out that the current release was what we were getting. Honestly, if I could pick and choose I would have loved a lenticular box set with the “Film Arena” treatment. I pre-ordered the copy you reviewed from Orbit-DVD and it’s on route to be delivered the 17th. Overall, it’s not a terrible release, but a review like this coming from you definitely makes me question my purchase. This form factor is similar to the “Titanic” packaging, as well as the “Star Trek-the motion picture” sets. The Titanic set blows this Interstellar set out of the water…that’s for sure. I’ll probably display all 3 of these on a wall much like the Titans of cult Gladiator set. Thanks for the heads up…hopefully I’ll feel better about this when I have it in hand.

Like I said in the video it's by no means a terrible release. It's the price that really bothered me. I think you should be getting a lot more for your money. But honestly my friend I hope you get so much more out of it than I did. Don't ever let me put you off a release like this. If you like the Titanic Edition and Star Trek release then chances are you will get something from this 1. Me personally I wish we got the release that we were originally meant to get. Really glad I held off on this Keith. I absolutely love the movie but that set is really poor value for money. I'd much rather have had the original edition planned which I had preordered. I suspect this will not sell out and we'll see a price drop in early 2025 so I'll bide my time. Hard to understand why Warner Bros changed the original plan, the previous editions were so good. One or 2 bargains floating around still by the way. I ordered a really nice 4k Collectors Edition of To Kill A Mocking Bird from Amazon yesterday. @millerman9991 it's a wonderful movie Keith. Gregory Peck is fantastic in it. One of those Oscar winning performances that was totally justified unlike some others over the years. In terms of movie history it's one of the most important films ever made due to the subject matter. And also one of the few times a great book was adapted into a movie that is just as great.

That's about the same price for the Star Trek The Motion Picture Complete Adventure set which had 5 discs and a load of goodies including a booklet about the film, and it also had the same box design which had a nice cutaway art of the Enterprise. The £60 was worth it for the wealth of material, and what I did with the discs was to put them in a disc sleeve inside the box itself to stop them getting scratched. If this goes down in price I might pick it up, but not at the current price. Cheers for the heads up, Keith.

I actually missed out on that Star Trek release that you mentioned Mike. One of the reasons to why I did is the fact that I'm not the biggest fan of the original Motion Picture believe it or not. But take nothing away from the release it looked absolutely fantastic. I have been told by a few people tonight that this edition is selling out everywhere. I know it's still available to pre-order on Amazon Italy and if it doesn't sell out their chances are you will see a price drop. Definitely worth keeping an eye out. @millerman9991 I will say the Directors Edition is a much better version than the 79 theatrical as it flows so much better. And in 4K it looks gorgeous with a fantastic Atmos soundtrack. I'm glad I jumped on it when I did as I'm a huge fan of the film. But I'll definitely keep an eye on that Interstellar set as I would love to see it in 4K.

Big fan of this movie, especially if watched at the BFI in London, and I had my eye on this... but for the money it didn't really excite me. Value is in those patches and storyboards, the patches are prop replicas not cheap crap. Also, there is added bonus content, and the display box. I have seen replica patches go for like £10 a piece.

The thing is you should never have to pay for bonus content. There's a reason why it's called bonus content. As for the patches I have seen similar ones myself but for much cheaper. It's still my favourite part of the release though.

@@millerman9991 I get what you mean mate, but sets with bonus content are more expensive because of the bonus content if that makes sense. So they do factor a cost in there. These are not run off patches from any normal vendor, apparently they made sure they matched the screen used patches exactly. However, I agree that this should have maybe included something else e.g. the soundtrack disc perhaps, and better disc holders, as well as maybe a US flag patch, NASA patch and name patches.

If you notice at the end of the video I said that even though I am slightly underwhelmed by the release it's still a nice release I just wanted more from it. The housing of the discs is terrible. There is no other word for it and they really have to stop doing it like that in the future.

I thought Matthew McConaughey was great in this film, Keith. The movie is quite long but very enjoyable. I really do like those patches, maybe you should sew one on your jacket. I picked this up from HMV here in the UK with a 20% discount so at £39.99 it was palatable but I cannot understand why they pivoted from the Steelbook collector's editions for this and yet Inception hasn't altered? I saw rumours on HiDefNinja that it was Nolan himself who wanted input on the anniversary release which is why it changed but honestly I'd think he's far too busy to be bothered.

Saw an unboxing video of this late last night. One of the discs (in the central section) looks like a real tight fit and will be troublesome to remove or put back in. Clearly, the people who design such cases can’t be media collector’s themselves otherwise they’d never design releases like this.

Believe it or not but I had nothing but Trouble trying to remove that disc since I've gotten this release. I was going to mention it in the video but of course when I went to remove it it came out easy. The first time it's ever done that. This is not the way to house discs.

The prices of some new releases baffle me almost as much as that box design. I don't want to go all Randy-from-Scream, but there are rules that one should abide by in the general packaging and content of special/limited editions. Arrow, Second Sight, Umbrella etc all get it, and its generally represented in their price point. This is just a cluster and pitched way too expensively. I know price is subjective, and something is only worth what you're prepared to pay, but I expected better from Warners, given their recent, excellent offerings.

As you mentioned give me umbrella, second sight and arrow all day long. Better packaging all nicely compact and jam packed with special features. All at a fantastic price. What more can you ask for

Paying more for less is not great when it comes to physical media, the original pictures for this release looked great and likely had a steelbook. Isn't it weird seeing 10th anniversary releases by the way.

BEWARE of WB as WB's 4K discs are always problematics after a period of time they either get stuck while playing or never play at all !!!!

I got it for 32€ in Germany. And even now I struggle to justify this price for this release. Would pay more like 40-50€ for their old way of releases with a steelbook. Not a big fan of books holding the discs. Artwork looks a bit lazy. Posters nice, but they re folded what makes them kinda useless. No back artwork on outsite... Hmmm. Sadly disappointed.

I think that says everything. Even with me getting it at 42 euro I can't help but feel somewhat underwhelmed by it. I think you should be getting so much more for that price. To be honest I wish they stuck to the original release that we were meant to be getting. It looked so much better. Another missed opportunity.

I would of bought this if it was packaged like the oppenheimer collectors edition or something like the godzillar plus one, not this flimsy oversized package. I have the blu ray digibook from 2014 and a normal 4k 3 disc package. So it's a strong pass for me. Hoping No country for old men 4k comes to UK

Trust me if I didn't have that €20 voucher there is no way I would have went near this release. I am just like yourself I would rather have seen it done Like the Way Warner Brothers always do them. Much similar to Oppenheimer and it was meant to be that way and for the life of me I do not understand why they changed it. So I'm not surprised to hear that you passed on it

The set is overpriced for what it contains... It should have included a hardcover book with art and photos and some essays about the making of or the art development process.

The cover art invokes Spielberg’s Close Encounters. This is my least favorite Nolan film. Comes off as a layman’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Plus I am so tired of the Saving Private Ryan motif with Matt Damon i.e. The Martian. I have the Vault edition of this because I have all of Nolan’s filmography. This one’s an easy pass.

I never actually thought of that when it comes to Spielberg's close encounters. I can definitely see it. I know this movie is not for everybody and there is always going to be those comparisons to 2001 A Space Odyssey. Even I mentioned it in the video. But it's a movie that I absolutely love and I always learn something new from it everytime I watch it. I'm not one bit surprised to hear that this was an easy pass.
