The other thing you can do is if buying a car sight unseen is organize a mechanic or similar (RAA) *or its interstate equivalent to do an inspection or report on the vehicle before purchase.I am in Adelaide and sold my land cruiser to a girl from Alice Springs and she did this, the car came out no problems, she bought it and we were both happy.

That is exactly why you buy local, getting a damaged brand new car is wrong..feel for you dude... That is the risk of buying over the phone.

I think you got stitched up mate. That looks like damage from bird shit to me or possibly tree sap (they both can etch paint if left to long). That cars been sitting around the yard for a while and as soon as they found someone they could flog it off too that they could ignore they took the opportunity. I doubt you'll get any action unless you put it in their driveway and even then you'll get the "oh it was fine when we put it on the truck" bullshit. I think they shafted you and any money you saved your gonna have to spend on a lawyer and even then they probably won't fix it. Sorry I think you got ripped off good. Contrast your experience to this. My Dad recently bought a new Dmax from the big Isuzu Dealer on Port Wakefield Road. I had to pick him up when it went back for it's 3000k initial service and whilst we were there looking at the car and talking to the salesman, the salesman noticed a small bubble in the window tint that they had had done, a bubble neither of us had noticed. He had it replaced with new tint that day whilst they did the service. Sure Dad paid top dollar but at least he gets good service.

It’s great to hear a story like that. Yeah, I got bent over big time. Got away with it on the 62 but got fucked over with this one. Never again!

That is absolutely disgusting. I feel for you mate. It certainly does not instil any trust in the industry. So, something similar happened to my new Y62 and my mates Y62 when delivered to Rockhampton. It was damaged during delivery. But DC Motors without any fuss AT ALL... sent the cars away to get properly resprayed and fixed before delivery.. So my front qtr panel prob has a better paint job now lol..

Everything in writing, and they do have an obligation! Do not chase it by phone, put it in writing, and give them a deadline. Remind them of the australian consumer laws, they are national, and they are not optional, they have to assist. Do not fix it yourself!

From what I've heard, Ford don't make a good name for themselves when it comes to customer service and this video doesn't look good for Nissan either. Haven't heard anything bad about Toyota and we went local and got an Izuzu Dmax and so far customer service has been great!! Interesting video David, keep up the good work!!

I was going to pick up a cruiser interstate but luckily I took a plane there to check the cruiser out there was a oil leak under the sump was a nice car looked ok from the computer but up close and personal it was a let down they wanted to do a bargain and drop the price but I walked out on that deal...

Hate to say it but, what you said seems obvious. Buuuuuutttttt then I remember. I’m a couple hours away from Adelaide (would you still call it local? Not sure) bought a car from cmi Toyota Cheltenham. Which had obvious transmission issues. Went through the same rigmarole.... won’t buy from them ever again. And I would say that’s local. I was face to face with them multiple times. Didn’t care. Did nothing other than make up excuses.

I’d rather run the risk like I did, flew up from Adelaide to the Gold Coast, view the vehicle in person and if it wasn’t good enough cut my losses and fly home. That way you aren’t forever trying to go back and forth with anyone.

I get it everyone wants a cheap deal. Seriously people it is not just about what you pay for the car it is about after sales service too. I want to know when I buy a car that if anything does go wrong they can and will fix it, and what they will pay for parts/labour or just parts etc etc. If you are too far from that dealership it is never going to work, warranty is gone. If you are buying a car for maybe a year or 2 maybe 3, maybe it is worth going interstate, but personally if it is a long term investment go local have that piece of mind if something does go wrong you are in the best position to do something. Components are more complex, more expensive to repair it is not worth it.

One thing i think may be a hurdle is for WA buyers as it's compulsory in WA for a car to fitted with an immobilizer there so you'll need to factor that into your after purchase price and Pits inspection.
@jesselang2010
@jesselang2010 5 жыл бұрын
I think you'd find that it's law in all of Australia to have an immobilizer fitted from factory now mate. I haven't seen a new car without one ever. Only time they're exempt is with heavy vehicles.

I purchased my new Sahara from Melbourne which saved me nearly $20k over what the dealers in Adelaide wanted. I flew across to take delivery. I also must add that we have friends in Melbourne where we stayed so accommodation wasn't an issue. We got a permit from Vic Transport to drive the car from the dealership to Adelaide. We attached the authority to the front window and while driving back to Adelaide we passed several Police without being pulled over once. Would I do it again, absolutely yes but only flying over to take delivery

I agree with PQ - Toyota will happily sell you dud vehicles. The 3.0D4D engine with rubbish injectors that need replacing at 100k or blow up the engine, now the 2.8 dud DPF vehicles they are still rolling out the door to numnuts who believe the Toyota PR spiel of reliability.
