Hi there, after owning the CLS 500 for 14+ years, here is what it cost to own.
Definitely a great buy if you find one that is taken care of.
Things to look out for when shopping to find a clean vehicle:
-No excessive window tint,
-No exhaust mods
-No rips, in the leather or steering wheel,
-Both keys and manuals
-Spare tire
-No rim curbs
-Great tire tread (If they don't even care about the tires they are gona skip oil changes)

I also have a 2006 CLS500 in Iridium silver metallic with the sport package. Same interior but I have the matte wood. Your wheels look really good!

Great review. I have the exact same make and model and everything you said is spot on. I recently replaced the Harmonic Balancer which finally became worn. That is the only other repair I didn’t hear you say. Thanks . Keep em coming

Still on the original battery after 16 years. Car starts first time, every time, (touch wood), even after sitting for a week or more in freezing temperatures.

2008 CLS550 owner here. I have 244,000 miles on my vehicle now. Still looks brand new and I have done all the maintenance on it but man, I can go down a long list of what have been needed to replaced. Power Steering Pump AC Clutch Pulley Radiator Coolant Reservoir Thermostat/thermostat housing Engine and Trans Mounts Center Support bearing Drive Axle flex discs All air suspension Rebuilt Air Pump Starter Heater Core Valve Rear Window Shade Module on PCM (had to be soldered with new one that’s responsible for the heat that woks randomly work in the front and not work in the rear. Replaced Heater core valve and problem persisted. Was a module on the PCM that went bad that had to be replaced to fix this. Common issue) Brake Light Sensor Washer fluid reservoir pump All pulleys replaced (kept popping belts) Oil/Coolant Gaskets 3 New AMG rims because they’ve cracked over time from potholes Rear subframe bolts (they will snap. Replace with upgraded ones that are not mercedes factory so they don’t break and if they do, they just fall right out instead of getting stuck in the threads) All control arms and bushings plus ball joints Today, the radiator fan went out so that needs to be replaced too. Just ordered that. 😂😂 I love this car to DEATH. I’ve done all the work on it and believe it or not- the easiest car to work on IMO. Learn your vehicle, study, get a good scanner, take care of it. I would not recommend this car for the average person though.

Lot of miles though, is it really a lot of stuff, I mean most normal car makes wouldn't make 120k, I have a cls550 , 75k on clock no issues yet
@variousrebuilds
@variousrebuilds Ай бұрын
@@richardenglish-g2oMost modern day cars can easily make it to 200k miles with proper oil changes. I have a 2013 F250 with 283,000 miles and a Toyota i’ve had since high school with 285,000 miles on it and they both still run like new. From experience, that Mercedes has needed more work than any vehicle i’ve ever owned. Just a lot of plastic parts, some bad designs, and more components than normal cars that just don’t last long.

Great video! I had my eye on a lowish mileage cls550 locally here in the okanagan and this info swayed me, I pick it up this week. I saw your BBS wheels are for sale, I gotta resist buying them lol

How do your connect your phone to the car?
@PlaAwa

question: how does a lack of power cause the TCM to fail? or were you saying that the lack of power was the symptom? if the latter, what would cause it to fail and is this common? is $6k the cost of a genuine MB part and are there cheaper alternatives? these boxes are supposed to be bulletproof. it's scary to think that a little module could cost half the value of the car (or a quarter for the 55). A bit of a joke really.

okay, I unpaused and realised it's a lack of battery power.

Hey man i own a 2005, 3.5L Cls and i am thinking of selling it and buying the 5.0L because of the V8 sound and the bad reputation of the 3.5 engine, but i dont know if it will be worth it and what year should i look for. I didnt see you talking about it but can you tell me the fuel consumtion of the 5.0 and the other thing should i look for the facelift model (2008+) or i can just get the preface without many problems.
@WeekndGarage
@WeekndGarage 3 ай бұрын
The 5.0 is pretty good depends on the size tires you have for the consumption. On my 18in winter tires I can achieve 9.5l/100 and on spirited driving with 20in 295 tires it goes up to 19L/100 with normal driving you will be between 10-14L/100 The 5.0 m113 engine is bullet proof and sounds great, interior cabin it’s very quiet and smooth but it has the deep v8 exhaust note on the exterior. Your v6 is m112 I believe, if you can find a clean one to switch to I would say it’s worth the change. Mine is preface lift I believe it’s fine i hear issues with the 5.5 face lifted v8 but no SBC and aux battery to deal with. If you can find a clean condition and well maintained car both will be great to own :)

@Neil542
@Neil542 2 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s leaking at the moment I took it to a body shop they did a bad job fixing it so trying to find someone else to seal it. I’ve had to put towels temporarily.
@WeekndGarage
@WeekndGarage 2 ай бұрын
@@Neil542 Is it leaking from the drain seal on the left side of the rear trunk below the glass where the black plastic is? Thats where the antenna grommet cracks and causes a leak. Or it would leak from the trunk hatch where the chrome trim strip sits. Try to find the leak location with a garden hose and either replace the grommet or silicone the hole
