Buying a Mercedes E420 - W124 First Time Owner...

So excited I have the chance to own this legendary Chassis and Engine! Can't wait to bring you all the content along the journey of getting it back up to full speed. PLEASE, to all the W124 heads out there, share all the info you got! Recommendations on mods, maintenance etc. I am all ears!

Congrats man. I own a 1994 e420 and these Mercedes drive like no other. Fell in love the minute I looked at it and once I drove it the smile couldn’t be wiped off my face. The w124 is undoubtedly the greatest sedan of all time. Just keep an eye on the throttle body I’m currently having issues with mine and it took me a long time of diagnosis to figure out what it was. And don’t forget to slap some monoblocks on her!!!

Don't know how I didn't respond yet, but fully agree! I am madly in love with this car with no shame... I love driving it and it always gets 'the look back' when walking away. I'll keep an eye out on the throttle body, hopefully you like the wheels I picked up instead of monos ;)

Knock sensors are under the motor mount support arms. Feed directly into the EZL but wouldn't worry about them. Fuel leaking around pump is likely just crush washers. I dont know that the lower harness is still available but easy enough to build from scratch. One thing you will have to deal with is oil into the ignition caps/rotors. I would pop one off and see what's going on in there. Great to see you into a 'V-boot'

@@ANDERZENAMG Was hoping it was a non-ASR car but looks like it is. The rear gear kills the performance in those. Love to cruise at high speed though

@@bicylindrico yea… same, it doesn’t have a ton of giddy up from take off but does well on kickdown about 30+ Maybe eventually I’ll look at ASR defeat and 2.82 gears

@@ANDERZENAMG The 2.82 rear end totally changes the personality of the car and makes it a hell of a lot more fun to drive. Even more so if you add a limited slip. I suspect Mercedes gave the 034 the taller 2.24 rear for better fuel economy and to assure its acceleration numbers weren't close to its big brother. There's also a 2.65 option which many say is the best compromise between performance and fuel economy.

love your W124 content! found a '94 E420 that has been sitting and is quite neglected over here in MI. Not sure it's worth saving though....it has like 250k miles> I've heard these M119 engines are long lasting though.

Great video. Thinking buying a 1995 same specs with W119 engine and 136k miles on it. Looks in general fairly good shape at first sight. Owner says it does not work A/C. Sunroof sometimes work and sometimes does not. Lights of the dashboard do not work. Flashing lights button is collapsed, a loosen ceiling cover. Any thoughts / recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks

If it runs good and price is right I’d say go for it! This one had a short list of problems but nothing that would hurt reliability or driving around and the price was right so I snagged it. Glad I did, one of the best cars I’ve owned especially now that I’ve manual swapped it with a 6 speed.

Good find man car looks great!!! I freaking love that steering wheel. On your overheating note my friends S/C 500E was running "hot" most of the time...apparently its normal for those engines. It's been good for 20 years so far so I'm not doubting it lol

thank you dude! I love it too!!! Yea not too concerned about the temps… fans come on right on time, plus AC is integrated into cooling system so once it’s charged fans will come on sooner. Same system in the ML55 actually and lots of other MB’s. My kompressor used to run the exact same.
