I share my current predicament around buy a MK4 Focus ST Edition. Is this car RS worthy for the MK4 generation?

Ok having owned a ST Edition from new and also been a owner of around 15 focus St from 2005 onwards (Also a Fiesta ST !) , i can say by far this is the BEST i have ever owned . It like ford actually looked at all the feed back i ever gave them and built me the best ever one . Coil over set is great fun to play with but can be a bit hard on tyres on certain set ups . But yes i can see me keeping it for some time .

I had a 2014 BMW M135i manual and that clutch was definitely heavier than my current late 2015 R. Hence when I did have my M240i it was auto, I miss that car but that was the sacrifice to move back to North Devon.

I've heard so many good things and had a good walk around one last year. Need to drive one but I've seen they have dropped on the used market to about £40k which makes them more appealing. Great shout 🎉🚀

How do you think this compares to a mk 3 rs, similar sort of money for a good non edition version. Will it still hold value 'only' being an ST?

I think the MK3 RS will forever hold their value well. Particularly for a clean one. The ST Edition will lose more but I still feel it will hold strong its value given it is the top of the range limited Focus and everything is going electric/hybrid. In terms of driving I really liked them both so it's very subjective to chose between them. I've owned a MK3 RS Edition yet when I drove a track pack ST on multiple occasions I am always blown away at how capable and fun it is 🎉

I've owned a Mk4.5 Focus ST for a year, can't wait to trade it in, only has 4k on the clock as work from home, I find the suspension overly firm for our crumbling UK roads and find the car tramlines a fair amount on bad road surfaces, cant wait to swap to an M340i, M240i or RS3 for much plusher ride quality (adaptive suspension), mine will be up for sale or traded within the next couple of months, looking for £30k, its Frozen white, automatic transmission with performance and driver assistence packs.

I guess you bought one with the Track Pack, since it has coilover suspensions. Without the Track Pack you would get adaptive suspensions like you mention the BMWs have…

So you can get St edition in perfect condition for like 29000 eur? I want to say if you gona pay to around 30000-31000 max eur for Focus ST go for it. If you have around 40000 eur go for something else (bmw m2, a35 amg...). Focus St is definitely worth to max 31000 eur and you know that it is a good car. I have prefacelift normal Focus ST mk4 and it is a very good car. But if i have more money, i will probably buy something else

Highya. Watched you on and off now for probs four years. Always thought you had a dual clutch golf R. Lets start with that one. If using its clutch is causing you pain, then get shot of it. Pain is a way your body is telling you it is suffering damage and damage is cumulative. In a years time the pain you are complaining about now, will be worse, guarenteed. Regarding your possible purchase, entirely your decision. Would it hold residuals as a limited? There is so much you can do aftermarket with a mk4/4.5 makes them all limited. It is not the last word as the 4.5 will be and if a ltd of the 4.5 comes out? Also track pack? Everyone seems to be wanting that on their mean greens. Telling that you don't in the above actually state you are looking to go to a track. Yet to watch someone vlog themselves going through the grind of changing the settings of a weekend afternoon. Should have gone to adaptive damping as they say ;) Reminds me of Charles in the Italian job : "No I think it is the third carburettor, needs a little more............" Good luck with your tinkering and why I think all these "track packs" are a fad, but that's just me and when you come to resell and you tell them my coilovers probs need replacing and setting up. You'll have the practicality of four doors, excellent interior space and comfort and depending on the extras it comes with, could be nicely kitted. Go with stock, you can always add a mountune M330 and a panel filter and you will be good to go. If you can't tell by the little picture besides this, mine from new 2020. Orange. MK4 Fully loaded (shame the one you are looking at doesn't have the moon roof) even with a cd player you can't specify on the 4.5 and Ford deleted the glasses holder too. Mountune M330, and my nod to hot wheels, Maxton bodykit with bits. 😁 Whatever anyone says, what you are looking at Sam, it is a helluva car for not a lot of money. Enjoy. 🙂

I absolutely love the comment! Loads of detail and I appreciate the support along with the advice. Completely take on board your points and I love your Orange MK4 ST. I will have a good think as my current R has served me well over the 7 years and my leg issues are mainly due to excess running recently rather than the clutch. It may well be that I will stick with the car but I feel a change maybe on the cards for me this year more than previous years. Sometimes you have to let go 🙂

@@SamAustinIt has served you well, seven years. It was only after I wrote the above I came across your newer vlog alluding to a possible 4.5 edition. I honestly didn't know, but I guess it is predictable enough.

Mk4.5 ST Edition retailing at £42k+ coming out. Doubt they'll hold value short term at that price. Mk4 ST edition if you can find one that hasn't been battered 👍 loved mine but sold it whilst price's held strong.

A few people have said this too. It's on my mind for sure that car although I think prices will drop further towards the summer as the MK8 Rs values begin to fall now being 3 years old + the MK8.5 facelift on the horizon. If the right one pops up I may pounce though 😊

Ah that is a good curve ball! I drove the Megane RS Trophy R on track (the one with no back seats and about £50k's worth) and it was honestly one of the best cars I have ever drive. So raw and really have me on my toes as a drive. Great shout 👍

if you are into a car for being a drivers car and you are ok with day to day manual transmission, then maybe its a good shout, however i know i miss my golf r, decisions! decisions!

Yes it is a bit of a dilemma. I love my fast fords as fun cars but unsure on the day to day. I don't commute as I work from home or using public transport/walk/cycle etc so a few things to think about. Looking forward to experiencing the Revo Stage 2 this weekend to get a feel for the car over a few days 👍

For the price you will probably not find a better fun car than the ST Edition. I think you should go for it. You could set the coilovers to the softest setting while still have it a bit lowered for the stance. It will most likely be better than a standard ST with CCD. For convinience and day to day use a Golf R DSG probably can’t be beaten. I chose the ”lesser” Focus ST myself, the auto. Having almost always driven manuals before. Although, I don’t regret the auto. It has been fantastic. Even more so with the Mountune M330 installed. Also lowered with H&R springs the car is glued to the road. Also looks proper angry. Mk4.5 does look soooo much better lowered, looking a bit soft and nice in standard ride height.

Thank you for your comment. I love the idea of an auto ST as I've driven one at the back end of 2023 and the gearbox felt really good and engaging. Lots to think about and I like the sounds of your M330 ST 🎉

Ford Puma has an ST, though they are making some changes. Someone at work ordered a Ford Pupa ST, top specs included, ETA for this March for Delivery. He got an email to say they are making changes, and therefore it will NOT be a Manual, it will be Automatic (shite lol) and the centre will have some changes, such as a Tesla style information system (aka, a huge and oversized iPad) He is cancelling his ST Puma, the whole fun is the Manual part.

That is interesting to hear your colleague at work has cancelled his order. I drove the 1.0 Puma ST auto here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5_Ygq13Zr-ansk - It was fun to drive but did lack the grunt of the 1.5 Puma ST plus it was a shame to be missing a manual 🤔

Why would they release a puma st edition, when the puma st is dead? That 1.0ltr mild hybrid puma st is a joke.

Mk4.5 ST Edition has just appeared on the latest UK pricelist. Azure Blue, Track Pack, Driver Assist inc. Adaptive Cruise, Blue stitched Interior. £42,850
