Buying a Pre-Owned Seiko Sea Urchin from OfferUp App

Review of the discontinued Seiko 5 Sports Sea Urchin SNZF17 that I got pre-owned from a local seller on OfferUp and my experience with using the app for the first time.

After wearing the watch for a day I took another timegrapher reading and the amplitude looks good now in the 240's.

I have the JDM Pepsi Sea Urchin. Bought brand new a couple years ago for around $250 . I also bought a Seiko Land Shark 🦈 model SKZ209J1 brand new for around the same price . Two Seiko’s that will never leave my collection.

I had never heard of that SKZ209 before. Didn't know that older Seiko 5 Sports came in 200 Meter water resist models. Thanks for the comment!

I bought a Sea Urchin at a local "Antique Mall" for $80. It was the Pepsi, used but not abused. I bought an NH36 movement for $30, popped it in there and boom. $100 investment. Love it.

Nice. I've been thinking about swapping movement to an NH36 but honestly there isn't anything wrong with the 7S36 in my watch

I have had the Sea Urchin Pepsi bezel for the past 6 years. I still get so many compliments almost everywhere I go. I put a dark brown leather strap on it, and it looks like a $5000 watch from a distance. Now after 6 years, I also want to spice things up with a flat saphire crystal with clear AR coating. I would recommend you to go for a matte finish bezel, and not a shiny ceramic. Otherwise, the watch would look a bit cheap. The sea urchin is a vintage design, and shiny mods don't look good in pictures at least. Rest, you should know better. Can you please tell me why you're choosing a slight domed sapphire? Should I also go for a slight dome?

I couldn't locate a flat sapphire with clear AR for the urchin from my usual places or else I would have gotten that. The one I got is described as a low double domed crystal and it does have a slight dome but not as prominent as regular double domed crystals. I actually like the way ceramic and sapphire bezel inserts look but recognize that they are pretty impractical. DLW had some matte black inserts but not in the Urchin style which is what I wanted to retain.

I can't believe that my humble sea urchin watch is now a sought after model! i never once thought that these seiko 5 watches would ever be something more than a poor man's diver homage. now i love it even more. i often get compliments on it, and like another comment, i also used a dark leather strap with it for a long time and it looks top notch class! i decided today to switch back to the stainless steel band just for variety.

Yeah, this one surprises me that it developed such a following. Its bezel is not so easy to grip and turn, and the crown is undersized. I did eventually pair mine with a strapcode oyster style bracelet, but I've kept the 7S36 movement inside.

I don't see anyone selling a fitted jubilee for the urchin. I usually get my bracelets from strapcode or uncle seiko.

😂😂😂unbelievable "doesn't it come with box and papers?" Who fuc*****g care😂?? It's a 150$ watch..that's the exact reason i hate selling stuff privately in the open market, doesn't matter what you're selling(cars, watches, furniture) you always run into weirdos like that

@@watchify1775boxes and papers don’t add value to budget watches nor do they have any affect on quality. it’s super weird considering his model was $132 at walmart and amazon in 2017.
