Wow - That boat has been hit hard at the keel - under speed. You did the only right thing. The structural damage may not be visible and may be much more serious than the cosmetic damage. The moment sellers starts to down play - run - run - run as hell.

Great video. And boy, I think I'd run for the hills on that one. You'd have to pull the whole interior apart and possibly look at the keel if it has been moved or damaged where it connects to the boat. Worst still, if it's a bolt on keel, then you may have to drop it and install new bolts. That is way more than a project boat, that is a nightmare. I think you did the right thing choosing the boat in the yard. Sure you couldn't take it for a sail, but it was there naked if you like so you could see everything that is wrong with it. Easier choice to make. Can't wait for the next video. Well done Hiba for the video editing too!

@@OceanCruisers Look what Brett and Jade Evans had to do with their boat. They had the keel removed, totally demolished the inside of their boat to reglass the floor structures which were all broken and delaminated, then put the keel back on with new bolts. Huge job. If any keel like that has been bashed around that it affects the inside structures of the boat seen visibly, then I would walk away and not look back.

such a shame mate, other than that the boat was stunning. I spoke to a couple VERY experienced sailors who think it's possibly repetitive hitting on the bottom, like on a shallow mooring and the rigging being overtensioned. impossible to tell but not a sound boat! (Andy)

I just watched another video series he brought a salvage boat it had the same issue because it ran a ground the grid structure basically breaks lose from the hull. They only glue the grid down and don’t tab it in , it’s a weakness in the design

Two things I have seen. A Northshore with a compression post (mild steel would you believe) where the post was ready to exit the bottom of the boat. A certain model Jeanneau DS where the block under the compression post was collapsing. The marine ply inside the block was incorrectly positioned. Jeanneau were aware of the problem and issued repair instructions. Hard to spot unless the post has cracked the flowcoat. If you can get a feeler guage under the nuts on the bolts holding the mast step, or if you can tighten the bolts at all you have to remove the mast, compression post and get the angle grinder out. Then rebuild the block for the compression post to sit on. Tabbing faults aren't allways bad especially on a non epoxy boat because polyester doesn't hold on well to ply, especially on Friday afternoon boats.

I have 3 issues with charter boats. First is they are abused by people who don't know what doing or don't really care. This was different in the 70-80's when they made boats extra tough specifically for the charter trade like CSY boats. Now they just use lightly built production boats, not good. Also maintenance has likely been patch it up to get her out for the next charter rather than properly fixed the right way, especially on old charter boats like these. If she isn't out sailing she aint making money. And third they are rarely the owners version so you are stuck with lots of small closterphobic cabins that you won't want to actuality live in. No walk around births, no comforts.

@@OceanCruisers NAMS surveyors produce pretty standard reports which list the areas they looked and what they found. If it's not listed they did not look and likely did not find. Likely an experienced surveyor has a database of the same or similar boats they have surveyed and typical defects . while new owners may be looking at the boat for the first time.

@@OceanCruisers I used to provide IT support for NAMS surveyors. I helped them with the database. they could look up almost any production boat type and list the failures and flaws found over the entire model. That said, individual surveyors like individual plumbers can do more or less a good job.
