How reliable is 2.5 compared to 1.9?
@kloschuessel773
@kloschuessel773 5 жыл бұрын
@@@17genc lol :D compared to the 1.9 its trash 1.9 tdi is one of the most reliable engines known to man. However... 1. no 1.9 quattro tdi`s in the a6 and not many in many a4 b6 and newer models in the b5 audi you can find them more often 2. when you buy an a6 you probably want a bit more power than the 1.9 tdi has to offer. you can chip them but well, that can hurt the reliability + still no quattro 3. 1.9 tdi is not that common in a6 and often not cheaper and a6 1.9 tdi are rarely well equipped. think of the mindset of ppl wo bought the „basic" a6. the v6 tdi was supposed to be so awesome... so why buy an a6 with the small 1.9 tdi and fully equip that model for big bucks? 4.but: if you spend 1000-3000 bucks, you should be able to get an a6 c5 2.5 tdi quattro with pretty much every extra you could want and acceptable mileage. and mind this.... there are models that run 500.000km without big issues and some frenchmen made the million wit that motor. Its a great motor, as long as it doesnt fail you. I think that you can take that risk, when you spend that „little". let a mechanic check it out and if its alright, you should be fine for many more miles to come. reliability shouldnt ever be the reason when choosing a 2.5 tdi over a 1.9 tdi... but you can just read the forums yourself and decide

the cvt transmissions from audi are famous for not being very reliable, anyway i would change the oil in the transmission, if you already changed it, then you should find somebody who can check the out the problem via diagnostic computer, maybe you just have to do the basic transmission adaptation via computer, but it can be also another problem-electronic, mechanic...

2.5 TDI are a little problematic, and fuel comp is around 10-11Liters in town in mine, and 6-8 outside (2.5TDI Quattro 180hp, 6-speed manual). They get very slow to their 90C optimal engine temperature, but never go one degree over. With manual trans you can make very hard launches but the clutch is not going to like it. I'd recommend if you want a powerful and economycal car, just get the BMW e39 530d (extremly reliable engines, and powerful)
@differentcarreview-dcr
@differentcarreview-dcr 8 жыл бұрын
+Vlad Mitrofan, You are absolutely right and as I wrote under my other video: these cars are great if you know how to properly take care of them, a lot of people complain about these 2.5 tdi engines, but if you change the oil after 15 000km and don't rev the engine over 2000-2200 rpm until it's warmed up, then these engines can withstand a lot, 500 000 - 700 000 km with no problem. Of course change the timing belt and water pump after 120 000km and after a very dynamic driving you need to let the engine run on idle for approximately 1 minute before switching off the engine to let the turbo cool down.

Mines a 2004 but from what I know it's basically the same car. Mind the timing belt as one day i checked it and it had a very concerning amount of play. and I had a #1 cylinder misfire at about 113,000 miles. I bought it at 120,000 so I don't know how the prior owner treated it, but from my experience those are your main concerns. Also if you get a chance check your water pump and thermostat to make sure they are operating correctly . Edit: 112,000 not 120,000 lol

We have a 2000 Audi A6 4.2 since new. It has 165k miles on it. We have changed the timing belt water pump tensioners etc. at 100k miles. Spark plug changes and the occasional coil pack goes out but that’s about it with the engine. We have done preventative maintenance like vacuum lines valve cover gaskets. However, the transmission went out at 100k miles requiring a remanufactured unit which was basically the how much the car was worth so it was technically mechanically totaled. The airbag control module did fail requiring a new one which was very expensive. Other than that the car has been fine. It still drives great looks great and feels solid on the road. I keep checking the market for low mileage examples on the A6 or even s6 with the v8 but they are very rare. The RS6 is too maintenance heavy so i’m staying away from that but they are tempting!

RS6? 4.2 Biturbo? Main concern with the drivetrain? Turbos? I know the 4.2 is a completely different engine internally. Is it overall reliable or are there too many issues for everyday use?
@differentcarreview-dcr
@differentcarreview-dcr 7 жыл бұрын
The RS6 is great and unique car, however there are often problems with the turbos-as you said, then the DRC adaptive suspension (RS6 speciality) can leak=very expensive repair (however a lot of people swap this complicated suspension to the conventional one), then there can be problems with the intercoolers and the tiptronic gearbox, then of course the regular problems as in other petrol engines-leaks, sparkg plugs etc. It really is a fantastic, powerfull and even practical car, but not really for everyday use. The more reliable option is definitely the S6 version.

Hamza Rayaz I've driven one and they are immensely powerful, it did have the notorious DRC gone. Replaced with coilovers. Is everything really reliable? I've read nightmares about the transmission(duh), there could be boost leaks, since they are old. And the timing belt every 40k is quite expensive and annoying. However if they are reliable, I might give one a shot. It is no doubt a classic car. Especially for us in the U.S that have never received another RS6 sedan or avant. If not. Then I've decided to pull the trigger on an A8 D3, very well kept example.
@Hammy0142

if you look after it it'll look after you asking as you don't do harsh launches as that kills the box. boost pipes are normally ok.however changing them later on down the line is preferred which is what I've done. turbo are usually ok aswell. normal servicing and maintenance will keep the box and engine in good order. it's like an investment these car are rare In the UK and US so I would drive it as a weekend car and not a daily. if your really want to upgrade turbos go for borg warner. They're on my dad's c5 and they're amazing good for 600bhp. good luck definitely get a c5 the power and grunt and just the look and feel of German quality is amazing and in my opinion one of the best looking audi out there

Mainly the 2 turbochargers, so check if they are working properly, because replacing them are expensive. You also have to replace the timing belt and the water pump every 75 000 mi, so check if it was replaced by the previous owner. Then the car should have regular maintance history, regular oil changes etc.

Great engine if the previous owners took good care of it. The 2.7t has the best tuning potential, look into some Audi formus, the sky's the limit.( your pockets being the sky) With a very small ECU tune, you can get a really fast car. If you put RS4 turbos in it, or Garrett units, you can enter supercar territory.

Only decent engines are 2.8 and 4.2. 1.8T can be tuned up, then its pretty good. 1.9TDI is slow and will NEVER get good enough fuel consumption to justify itself. LPG equipped 1.8T or 2.4 will be cheaper to run and faster and are aviable with quattro. 2.5TDI dogshit, infamous for being the worst audi engine ever. The 2.4 gets almost identical fuel consumption and power but with no diesel tradeoffs. ONLY get the BAU engine if you want one. 2.7T just dont, unless you have your own repair shop. 2.4 solid, a bit too slow, just a little worse than the 2.8 2.8 really decent performance with a manual trans, keeps up with traffic very well. 3.0 dont. not worth it, its fragile 4.2 bulletproof engine, sounds like thunder and goes like stink. 4.2 in S6 trim. Will outrun most cars you encounter on the road, shorter gearing than A6 4.2 with even more power. Transmissions. Find a manual. If you cant, get a facelift auto and expect it to fail. Do not look at multitronic, ever. These cars have aged well, but their time is coming to an end. Not as simple and durable as the C4s but much more comfortable and modern. almost forgot, for the V6s and V8s change oil in 8-11k km intervals
