Purchased a 07 CL63 a couple of month ago. Had a lot of stuff to fix. If you are buying one of those please do make sure you test drive them, in town and on motorways. Check for excessive vibrations in steering wheel and whining noises, those could be caused by the ABC pulsation damper. Check the functionality of multi contour seats with aircon turned on (not sure why is that, but mine doesn't work when AC is on, so had to spend 500 quids replacing pump and two seat control modules). Make sure the center armrest opens and closes properly and the dual hinges work, because if it is broken you will have to replace the whole lid (can't be mended). Check all wheels' speed sensors, if one of them breaks, ESP, ABS and cruise control will all stop working (happened to me as well). Check if the ABC pump has been replaced before, because they will eventually fail, it's just a matter of time. I also replaced gearbox and engine mounts because of excessive vibrations when idling. Repair bill at the moment is 4200 quids, and there are still a few more problems that aren't fixed. So if you are looking to buy this, or these (S class and CLs) because they are cheap and look like bargains, please please please walk away and buy something else. They are difficult to diagnose and cost a lot to repair. If you just want a nice problem free car just go and get a lexus, don't make my mistake.

You should add how many kms it has and how much you paid. Im sure 15-20k price tag and 200k+ km on cl500 or 63 has some problems. Buying cl500 for 40k euro that has 50k km is basically new car imo.

I daily drive my CL550/500 2009, 9 thousand miles these last 5 months. Something to look out for is a crack in your radiators at around 90K miles. Get it handled quick because that crack ruined my alternator. 2300 USD in total. Still a sexy coupe and incredibly comfy. Sitting at 97K miles and no mechanical issues :)

Personal experience Common problems on my 2013 CL500 (got it a month ago). - air conditioner blower motor (done before purchase) - electrically adustable multicontour seat, indeed was a faulty control module (quoted 1300£ by local Merc dealer). But I left it as it doesn't remember the preferred driver and passenger settings. So not a big deal to select the backrest every cold start. - starter motor (£548 to fix incl labour and VAT) done by warranty

I’ve just purchased a 2009 CL 500 with 77000 and a full history . The car was due a service when I purchased the car a few weeks back so I booked it into a local Merc specialist shop I’ve used on my previous mercs and asked them to not only service the car but check the car out fully making sure there’s no issues the bill ended up just a little of £600.00 with a arm replacement where I could hear a slight rattle upon driving over uneven surfaces . I must say what a simply brilliant car in so many different ways .

@@buyiphilip I don’t use the car daily as I drive a van during the days mostly but as a drive the car in my opinion is faultless it really is a pleasure to drive in town and on motorways it has everything I would expect in a luxury vehicle regarding its comfort and drive I drove it to Dorsey from London last autumn and it was effortless getting me to my destination like I had drove only a few miles because it’s so effortless and comfortable I cannot comment on the maintenance expenses as I’ve had nothing wrong with the car to repair through my ownership but it seems on a par maintenance wise as my previous Mercedes CLS . I highly recommend the Merc CL as I personally feel you will not find at better more comfortable better looking car than this vehicle at the prices you will find them on the market . Nicely done sir, I would add that certain models had serious problems with the timing chain balance shaft. It is my understanding it associated with the V6 and V8 motors of certain year Mercedes-Benz. Suggest that the potential buyer research the car thoroughly and GET a Pre Purchase Inspection.

Folks need to keep in mind that these cars cost over $100k when new. The CL65 started around $200k. So the repair bills will be very nice. Doesn't matter if you get a low mileage one, parts will fail over time. I would choose a 10 year old car with mileage over 80k miles over a 30k miles. A high mileage one would usually have many parts replaced if it has been serviced regularly.

@differentcarreview-dcr

-the Ford fiesta (made from 2008) have often problems with the 6 speed powershift automatic gearbox, so I would recommend buying it only with the manual gearbox -the Renault Clio (made from 2012) is ok, but I would not recommend the 1.2 TCe petrol engine-bigger possibility of oil consumption -the 3rd generation Skoda Fabia (made from 2014) doesn't have any common problems yet buy a diesel engine only if you want to use the car on longer distances

Quick review: if you are going to buy a 20.000€ one have 10.000€ for repairs and maintenance. Have the CL500 4Matic for air suspension and make sure it has a full service history and check for rust and leaks around the differential, transmission and engine. Stay away from high mileage one if you don’t want to do expensive work… Overall great cars that are made for left blinker and bright flashes on the autobahn, 100% recommended.

Don’t use for daily driving, change your fluids and treat it with respect. It will amaze you with power, comfort, quality and appeal. It is like a magic carpet! No need for v12 with expensive ignition issues. Who wants more than 544 horsepower? $21,000 for a $145,000 MBZ with 50,000 miles? No nicer buy in the universe. Treat yourself ...

No, cars made from 2008 don’t have issues with that, but if you want to be 100% sure then check out the engine serial number and compare it with those listed on this website: www.mercedesmedic.com/check-my-mercedes-benz-for-balance-shaft-issue-by-vin-m272273/

Hello everyone I have a 2008 Mercedes CL550 which I love but I have this issue where it whines when I accelerate and I have taking it to 2 repair shops last one was Mercedes Of Boerne and They said it was either the alternator or another Pulley Which I have already replaced one at over 1k and now they want me to play the guessing game anyone have this issue it gets louder as it gets warmer and whines louder as I accelerate is very loud inside and out.

hey i had the same problem with my 2010 SL. It was so annoying. It turned out to be the ABC; eventhough it worked, there was something wrong in the pump and after changing it i had no more whine! i hope this helps you!

I test drove one of these, accelerating away from the lights I noticed there was a strange ticking and a loud whining coming from the area above the gearbox. It’s my wife drumming her fingers on the dash and complaining again.

I bought a used CL500 2012 model 2 years ago and always extend the MB warranty as the car can be very expensive to repair. I have other cars to use on a daily basis (an AMG GTS amongst them), but the CL500 is without question the most comfortable to drive and the fit, finish, quality fittings and overall looks are still as fresh today as the design was when first launched. On a run I get between 30-35mpg, which for a big heavy 4.7ltr twin turbo petrol is quite remarkable. Many people comment how beautiful the car is and I'm pretty sure it will become a future classic.
