Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solo or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my KZbin channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

If you go for the jeanneau 409 you wont be sorry. Great boat for the price out of charter. It might even come with some bells like newer sails, rope bags, and a history loge. Just my opinion.

Wait 6 months then see how ex-charter 419s are priced. Some as low as $139k now…..might be negotiable in 6 months time.

This looks like a very sturdy blue water boat as well as a great boat for the Caribbean.

So watching the video and at @3:28 you talk about soloing the vessel and adding winches, however for the layperson or beginner they wouldn't know where to start or even evaluate this sort of improvement. Picking on the Jeanneau Sun Oddessey 409 the two halyard winches by the companion way run the mainsail and reefing points, where the primaries by the wheels run the sheets (including the mainsheet), the designer didn't leave much room to add a winch. Since they are both powered wouldn't it be easier just to run switches to opposing helms to operate them remotely? A video on adding winches is a neat idea for you to do.

I'm beginning to wonder if these boat designers have separate shower stalls in their homes.

I'm curious about your "wait 6 months" comments I've heard in some of your videos. Are you saying 6 months will give you more time to save more money? Or that the price might drop in 6 months? I'm 2-3 years out from buying a live aboard and trying to research and learn through your videos. Thank you.

My only issue with this vessel is the price AND the running costs coming with the jump up to 40ft from the 34-36 range. I would go with a smaller vessel on a budget, but a gf would be happy with the additional room so….

I'm curious how much higher the running costs are jumping from 34-36 to 40'. I'm in the process of selling my 34' Moody and plan to upgrade to a newer 38-40' sailboat in a couple years. I really like these Jeanneau and Beneteau models. I'm aware of all the slips, storage fees, and maintenance (painting, sanding, etc.) that is charged by the foot. AC and generators are potential new systems I don't currently have that I'd have to maintain. Sail size is larger, so I know they will cost more to replace eventually. Is there something significant that I'm missing?

@@justin4192 hard to say, I am EU-based, so take it with a pinch of salt. The struggle comes from the fact that it is way harder to fit a 42ft boat into marinas than a below 40. Hallouts, paint, storage, etc, we concluded (purchase price excluding) that we would pay nearly 30-40% more for a 40-42 compared to something around 36. with 40 there is a bit of room, you may be able to fit it into the smaller berths, but when the LOA goes over 40, then the fun begins...

Thanks for the insight @@Ethaara . I know our current small basic marina can't fit boats much larger than our existing 34'. I'll need to call around as I get more serious on the upgrade to see how much more slips will cost.

Have you talked with the broker on the Tortola boat? what was the hurricane damage? When are we going to bring her back to the mainland? 2012 is only 10 years old are they replacing running rigging? how about engine hrs? I did not see it in the listing. Its a deep draft..ugh...

oo la la, a french fancy dancy sail boat. I dig it. It's ready to go. I will probably never go across an ocean, mainly floating around the Virgin Islands and Bahamas, solo, just farting around. So this would work. Like the Bennetau as well. Peace.

It looked like it had a wet head, not separate shower? Or were the optics off? Putting on winches, more power cables, switches, might as well rework the swim platform...

ok... 36ft and up. Having said that, I would just go for the biggest boat that fits your budget. Small spaces will put everyone on the edge. I always suggest to charter a boat just to get a feeling for it.
@rickylefleur2158
@rickylefleur2158 2 жыл бұрын
Still the number of cats. Kitties need space to be happy and a 36ft boat will just provide enough space for 1 cat to be happy not 7. Therefore I would keep 1 cat or cat pair and try to find a great home for the rest of them. There are organization that ensure a great new home for Kitties.

I was confused about the budget and price. You've been using 100k right along but when you mention buying a charter boat, your budget jumped to 800k. Is this the real price?
@Mr_Smarty_Pants

must of meant 85K buying from a charter company?...i guess meaning well used....there seems to be a broad range of prices on these 100K+ usd to well over 200K.

Fancy? check....Dancy? check...;D ....i like it, i think you should err on the side of larger/wider as long as it doesn't cross your line into premium mooring charges...but what do i know??...plus broader beam and longer water line means even more space for thong babes, right?? :D hahahhahaha
