We loved Portugal when we traveled there. We rented a little house in Avanca. It had an overgrown veggie garden which we were allowed to use. We made curried squash soup and a minestrone. So much fun. Thought of you when I harvested some eggplant for eggplant parmesan. It has taken us 6 years to where we are growing things, eating from what we grow and just loving the world we have created. Take you time. Love it breathe it. How about writting a book or a series of small books from Crusoe's point of view! It would be awesome to reach the younger generation about how you live. Health, happiness and much joy to all of you.

The lamps are brilliant! Maybe if you have those metal rings at smaller sizes you can make shades from the bamboo, that would be too cool, you could even stain or paint the bamboo. The farm would be an ideal bed and breakfast, great income! There are so many ways to pull an income from your property, it would make a lovely outdoor wedding or party venue. Greetings from Chiapas, México. It was a lovely Q&A, especially when you have a couple of lovely helping hands like Tania and Adam. Crusoe is so stable on his feet compared to just a couple of weeks ago. The baby fowl are quite adorable, as well. I think your idea sounds wonderful, about right for 3 acres taking your time and building things organically, just fits you from what I can tell, better. You have a tidy shelter, so what's the hurry. The old adage of haste makes waste, is totally true in this case. Have a wonderful and constructive summer!

Plumbing!!! A headache!! We moved into a property that had been neglected and unlived in for 8 years!!! My husband had to fix and replace lots of plumbing!!! My husband decided to put a stop-valve onto every pipe that branched off from main pipe line! This way when there was an issue on that pipe, all Mike did was switch of that stop-valve and proceed to fix it. And the rest of the property. There would still be water, which greatly relieved me, as you know, households use a lot of water. This system also helped to prevent airlocks...💧💦 We were also totally off grid, and we had the sweetest borehole water ever!!

So... In answer to the more pets question, it was actually a yes! Two Stag beetles friends for Duck and Chicken! ;o) We used to have some in our garden here in Devon, but that was many years ago so I appreciate how their numbers have dwindled over time. It's a little bittersweet that Safari has gone to another home, but the plan for another van renovation in the future is very exciting! I can't wait for those episodes! I love that people were asking when you were going to get around to renovating the rest of the buildings/property.... It's like they somehow missed that there's just two of you and just how much you have done already! Each episode shows (to me at least) such great changes that it's amazing what just two people can do! I'm off to find the podcast now, and wish you both the best of luck for more bamboo-wrangling next week! x

Yet another enjoyable moment in time with you and friends! I 💘 it! I especially loved at the end when Crusoe chose to go out on his own while the adults were checking out the beatle! Hi Newbys, I love to follow your farm adventures and really love to see Crusoe joining in on the activities. The funniest question I think was when you're going to start renovating, I'd never thought of that, I love it as it is. That will all happen in time, enjoy it! I loved the stag beatles at the end, they are rare as you said, I live in the South of the Netherlands where we also have some of them, and I only just learned that the larvae can only live off a sort of white fungus on rotten wood (mostly oak) in the ground, so when you find dead oak tree stumps, don't be too tidy and clean it all up if you want to keep the beatles. Keep up the good works!

Hi, guys. Great video- really enjoyed Adam and Tanya. Having just moved into a 150 yr old Victorian on 2 acres of over-grown gardens and yard surrounded by encroaching woods, I hear you loud and clear about taking some time a assimilate into the life on your property, and get to know and love it. I thoroughly enjoyed today’s video as well as Jits’ podcast. Great answer to the renovation question. Take your time and plan out what you want. Given that Tara has reached her third trimester the last thing you want is to be in a major construction zone, just keep those projects ticking over. Howdy from the ex-pat Kiwi living in Oz.

Having done capitalism and off-grid permaculture in the city of Melbourne Australia (same latitude as Lisbon) my husband and I are rooting for the groundswell of people doing this in beautiful, rich and once abandoned settings. Your journey is impeccably resourceful, and your children are being given something incredibly valuable - never doubt that.

I love how sensitive you are to the land and buildings. Of course I'm going to stick around and see what magic happens over time, Rome wasn't built in a day and I'm so looking forward to seeing your plans progress. Really enjoyed this episode, I usually skip through sponsored content but, for you guys, watched every minute and will continue to do so.

💕 Love your vlog this week - thank you for answering the many great questions and sharing your lives with us! Also love what John said about waiting a while before smashing and changing your home - it looks like it’s seen a lot of life before you became its new owners and it would be hard to just tear down those memories and structures without living in it a while and see how it speaks to your family.

I am so happy you guys are planning to keep on going places even after the 2nd baby arrives. As I grow older and my joints, backs give away, I find it more and more difficult to keep going. When I finally find my opportunity for a trip Safari in 🇿🇼 (also reaching for my 50th country) I buy it all on a whim and wonder how I am going to do it; but I will. I now can't sleep from the excitement and it's 1 yr away. Keep up the good work. 😅🙏😍❤️🇵🇹❤️

Thankyou so much for such a fun vlog. it was lovely seeing so much of the farm. Lamps are such fun to make. During lickdown hubby made a row of hanging lights from Golden Syrup cans. Plus an angle poised lamp from a chunk of oak and some Illy coffee cans. They certainly provoke conversation! Happy making!!

Hi, loving your channel. When drilling glass or tiles, stick a piece of electrical tape over the spot you want to drill and it will stop the drill bit from moving around, making the job much easier and also reduces the risk of cracking. We have stag beetles round here (near Heathrow), they are scary and my cats have been nipped by them. It is nice to know they are thriving round here though, as they are endangered.

You did get on. You got an indoor couch, an outdoor couch, figured out the water system, became duck & chicken parents, cleared land to see what's going on (thankfully decided to leave the grapes until you see what they produce), found paths, found trees, planted a few things and built an outdoor shower. I believe in doing it once and well. Take your time, you are doing plenty already.

I agree with so many of your subscribers regarding living somewhere for a while before changes are made. I follow this process myself with all the places I’ve lived. I like to make a space my home but as far as major changes I don’t do those until I’ve lived there for a while. I think it’s a really smart idea.
