Interesting details. Think I'll call 'em up and ask if they have a giant marshmallow I can put sheets on for our 'short queen' RV "mattress". As you might guess, I'm looking for super plush upgrade.

We bought a 8" Luxury Cool-MAX® Gel Foam RV Mattress II from Mattress Insider when we first bought our used coach in 2014. It was one of the first purchases we made for the coach after we bought it. We love the mattress. Shipped out quick and fit perfect. We also bought the encasement because we have a short queen, which is a size not common in the box stores. We love sleeping on it more than the Tempurpedic we have in the house. My niece just so happened to buy a used travel trailer that needed a bit of work and has a short queen bed. She took our old mattress because it was actually still in pretty good shape so everything worked out well. Didn't know about the Aire Flow Moisture Barrier when we bought our mattress, will have to look into that.

HI Bob, glad to hear you had a good experience too - you can't put a price on a good night's sleep! Great you were able to offload your old mattress to your niece as getting rid of the old one can be a headache - luckily we were able to gift ours to a friend with a fifth wheel and a really bad mattress so it worked out great for him too. Yes If you spend a lot of time in humid climates the AireFlow is really worth looking into as these RV beds are just sitting on plywood platforms... not the kind of things we thing about or WHY it might be an issue when we are RV shopping. Thanks for sharing your experience and safe travels!

Thanks for turning us on to Mattress Insider. During my web searches, I did not come across this company. We have a new motor home and the mattress is 100% crap. The manufacturers should be ashamed of the junk they put in their motor homes. Called and spoke with someone before I placed our order just to make sure I understood the various types and make sure we got the right one for us. Ordered the Elation model today.

Glad you found a mattress that will help you sleep easier! Agree with you - most mattressse that come in RVs are utter crap. But here is our take on RV manufacturers cheaping out in general... Most people say they want quality, but they don't really want to pay for it... so RV manufacturers cut quality when and where they can to keep the prices low so the RVs will SELL! Unfortunately, most people don't look at or consider the many cheap things they will need to replace when buying an RV... not suggesting that is you... but our theory is manufacturers cut corners where they can to keep moving units...and it works, They are selling a ton and people just replace what they don't like. We agree with you and prefer quality ourselves, but that probably makes us the minority, as in being willing to pay more for it! Sweet dreams!
@mark980702 жыл бұрын
I realize this is an old post but I was considering buying one from mattress insider but was undecided which to choose. The elation is the one that 5" thick and I was concerned it would be too thin especially on a plywood base. Can I ask, how do you like that one? Do you wish perhaps you ordered a thicker one? Thanks for your reply!

I had read about the moisture barrier product back when I bought my RV and purchased a new mattress.. I ordered it from a Marine-Product store and had to cut it to size to fit on my platform, which was no easy feat! It looks exactly like the one he showed on the video. As you probably know, it is not a very soft, easy to cut product! Unfortunately I did not get anything to put on top of it. I wasn't told I needed it. I hope the bottom of my mattress is not ruined. I spent several hours researching mattresses before I bought mine. I like it OK, but will definitely give these guys a shot when it is time for a new one. Thanks for the valuable information! I would love to know what the cost was and if your bed is a RV king or RV queen size.

HI there, yes our aireflow is hard plasticy webbing on one side (bottom) and has a fabric on the top side which sits against the underneath of our mattress. Ours is a regular Queen size 60 x 80" and so our mattress was just under $500 and the Aireflow was $100 so $600 all up. We were pleasantly surprised, expecting it to easily be a thousand - being custom. And no that Aireflow is NOT easy to cut but Marc managed to do it with a sturdy pair of household scissors - it came in two pieces. All the best to you@!

Based on your recommendations and positive reviews I placed an order this morning for a 70X80X8 custom luxury gel foam mattress. Looking forward to receive it around the 25th and test it out. Thank you for all your video posts. Oh...I did tell them you sent me and got 10% off.

Marc has definitely noticed an improvement in that he doesn't wake with back pain anymore like he used to. We hope you like yours as much as we do ours and glad the 10% discount was able to help you out! Let us know what you think after the 25th. It's pretty crazy watching the thing unroll so quickly. Thank you for Posting. This will be my first purchase for the RV. As a "Professional Insomniac" I have had some concerns about the quality - or lack of with RV Mattress's. SO very happy they are in Denver :)
@Rvlove7 жыл бұрын
Yes many RVs come standard with the el-cheapo mattresses but there is an option to upgrade. They have a showroom in Denver which is great for trying out in person, but even for people nationally, they are very good at diagnosing over the phone and building a mattress to suit then they shrink wrap it and ship it to you. We have had ours now for about 8 months and are still very happy with it. Good luck!

This was such an amazing and informative video. I had no idea how mattresses were made let alone all the available options for the layers to customize the perfect mattress. When you look into the toxins that are in the cheap store-bought mattresses. it is quite scary. You are smart opting for the organic mattress. I know I will buying organic for our RV when we buy one. Also.....where did you get your bedding? I assume it is custom...Love it!!!
@Rvlove7 жыл бұрын
HI there, glad you found the info helpful, we learned a lot too! The off gassing IS pretty scary, especially when living in such a small space. I actually bought the bedding from Pottery Barn about 2 years ago - bought 2 duvet covers and used the second one to cover a new custom made valance that Marc made.... my interior stylist friend Jane in Australia (www.janebrowninteriors.com) is the wizard behind the idea - she does my styling via Skype calls! Brilliant. Hope that helps!

Back pain is a BIG red flag! I was in the hospital 18 months ago and had to request the find a bed with a solid mattress. They had me in a bed that supposedly adjusted to prevent bedsores but it wrecked my back! I had to ask them to find an older bed with a regular foam mattress.

Hi Neil, we've actually been sleeping on the mattress since March 2017 and we still love it. Marc was waking with back pain every morning but this has substantially reduced with the new mattress. He does have a back condition so we just put his pain down to that... but as it turns out the old mattress just wasn't supportive enough and exacerbated the problem. Hi Rick, we've actually had the mattress now for about 10-11 months ( we installed it in March 2017 and posted the video a couple months later) - we still love the mattress. Sleep much better and Marc is no longer waking with back pain - he put it down to his back condition originally but turns out the mattress and topper we were sleeping on simply didn't have good enough support. We checked out the custom route. Incredibly expensive. Off the chain expensive. They all averaged $1700 to $2200. We went the specialty RV mattress route and even the best of them just fail in a few months. RV dealer told us to go with a home mattress. We finally settled on a Primo from Sit and Sleep. Super Queen $339.00 delivered free, old mattress hauled off free. Spring with foam beats the all foam and air mattresses IOHO's. Sure, not for everyone. In 90% of RV applications the mattress has to be flexible because of the lift up storage compartment under most master beds. Some storage compartments are partial length hatches and the mattress has to not be heavy yet bend in the middle. Plus negotiating the trick hallways and turns of many RV's, and being forgiving and fitting between your fixed position nightstands. The Primo beats them all from our experiences, and it's a really comfortable Mattress and really holding up.
@Rvlove7 жыл бұрын
Glad you found one that works for you - you make a very good point about the mattress flex for accessing under bed storage and bending.
