I love Secretariat. Just adore him. Other horses like Ruffian are amazing too, but idk why Secretariat just has a special place in my heart. After every single race he lost, he broke a record, and as tensions mounted getting closer to the triple crown he practically said, “Oh yeah. Let me show you what real speed is.” He was just something else. His records haven’t come close to having been broken, and he still leads the Belmont with his 31 length win and his 37 MPH Avg speed. Anyways, love the vid. Keep it up!

Can you do Kincsem? She's literally amazing. She is called The Hungarian Miraclemare, she run on 54 races and won all of them. She was born in 1874 and died in 1887(on her birthday). She has got no markings(there's a film of her but there are 5 horses who act her and some of them have stars or socks). She was 16.1/16.2(I don't really know, I only know she was 165cm) when she was 4 years old. Her first race was in Berlin on June 21, 1876. I would be really happy if you'd do her.

@JoCamp6962 жыл бұрын
I literally just commented about that! he had the misfortune to be born the same year as Big Red but if he'd been a year ahead or behind we would've had two great triple crowns in a row. he only faded in the Belmont because of his jockey trying to keep up with Secretariat. if he'd just run a race like normal he would've been second place.

@Abigail Pinehaven Interesting fact about Secretariat… one of the reasons why he could run for so long at a fast pace was because he had a larger heart than any regular horse. So his heart was able to pump blood way for efficiently than other horses. A regular horses heart weighs between 8-10 pounds… Secretariat’s heart weighed 21-22 pounds. This was seen as to contribute to his speed, strength and stamina.

Some more facts on Ruffian for everyone. The match race against her and 1975 KY Derby winner Foolish Pleasure was actually also supposed to include both the Preakness and Belmont winners in 1975 as well, but both of them backed out of the race to aim for other races. The race was also supposed to be started partway on the first turn of Belmont Park, as the race was run at Belmont Park over the distance of 1 and 1/4 miles (and that's how they start that distance of race at Belmont Park, since it's a mile and a half track). They only moved it to start in the 1/4 mile chute on the backstretch because Ruffian's trainer was adamant that his horse would not be starting the race on a turn. They actually also did successfully repair her injuries, but while she was coming out of the anesthetic, she thrashed about on the floor of a padded recovery stall (they didn't have recovery pools in the 70s) and broke her shoulder and also reopened everything the vets had just spent 3 hours fixing. She was euthanized bc they knew she wouldn't survive another surgery, and she was buried next to the flagpole in the infield of Belmont Park (her home track) with her nose pointed towards the finish line and her legs in running position. She's actually the reason they no longer run match races in horse racing, and the main reason for the invention of equine recovery pools

Another one of the greatest racehorses to grace Australia is Black Caviar. During her racing career from 2009-2013, she won all 25 of her starts. The beautiful dark bay filly was born on August 18, 2006, at Gilgai Farm in Nagambie, Australia. Under the guidance of trainer Peter Moody, she began her career with a bang and never looked back. In fact, 60% of the races she won were Grade I races, a truly remarkable feat. I'd love to see some Aussie racers in there - Makybe (Ma-Kye-Bee) Diva, Gunsynd, Black Caviar, etc. I found some info about them for you :) Makybe Diva - (21st March 1999 - present) - the only horse to win three Melbourne Cups and the only mare to win it more than once. She achieved the feat in 2003, 2004, and 2005. She also won the 2005 Cox Plate. She was the highest stakes-earner in Australian history, winning more than A$ 14 million. In between those historic wins she won the Sydney Cup, the BMW (Tancred) Stakes, The Australian Cup, The Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Cox Plate among others. Gunsynd (4 October 1967 - 29 April 1983, was euthanised due to cancer at age 16) - Gunsynd was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who won 29 races and A$280,455 in prize money. In his seven starts over one mile he was only once defeated, by half-a-head in the Epsom Handicap. Major Wins 1971 Epsom Handicap, 1971 Toorak Handicap, 1972 George Adams (Cantala) Handicap, 1972 Doncaster Handicap, 1972 W.S Cox Plate. The ‘Goondiwindi Grey’ was purchased for $1,300 by four battlers from outback Queensland and he fast became one of Australia’s most favourite gallopers. He was a sensation on the track, incredibly losing only once over the mile in his career when he was beaten by a half head in the Epsom Handicap carrying 62.5kgs. Black Caviar (18th August 2006 - present) - undefeated in 25 races, including 15 Group Ones, an Australian record. She was the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 WTRR World Champion Sprinter. Black Caviar was trained by Melbourne-based trainer Peter Moody. Her ability to sustain an extraordinary speed throughout her races and still be able to sprint so quickly at the business end made her impossible to run passed and although her opposition throughout her career was sub par, it was hard to see how anything could beat her. She showed her toughness when she took on the world in England and having torn muscles in her chest, clung on for a famous victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. She was retired on 17 April 2013. PS love your vids, Abigail!

I remember when I watched the Ruffian movie for the first time. It was also the last time I saw it. Her story is so tragic I can't handle watching it. She deserved so much more. But it's true that her loss saved many other horses. The reason Ruffian had to be put down was cause she basically destroyed her two front legs as she was waking up from the anesthesia. After that, horses were being put in some kind of a water pool (i really dont know how to describe it in english, sorry) so they won't injure themselves when waking up. Barbaro also had fractured leg but was actually able to live with it for some period of time mainly thanks to Ruffian.

I love this. And as someone who isn’t in the racing industry for how bad it can be for the horses, this was very cool. I’m someone who loves history. Anything vintage or old or historical like this, that seems sad and has memorial I love. You could do Zenyatta, she won the Breeders’ Cup Classic. She was the 2010 American Horse of the Year and Champion Older Female in 2008, 2009 and 2010. She was inducted in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2016 (all of my info is directly form Google)

Love all these horses so much! Could you do Sodashi? She is a pure white japanese thoroughbred racehorse and was born in 2018. She started in 10 races and won 6 of them. Three of the races she won were 1600 metres, two of them 1800 metres and one 2000 metres long

Seabiscuit never ran on hard tracks because of his leg issues. They tried to run him on as soft tracks as possible at the time. Other racehorses ... Secretariats greatest rival... Sham (not the prettiest horse but he could move ), Phar Lap , Seattle Slew , Go For Wand (another mare who died way to young). Northern Dancer , Alleged and Affirmed, Little E Tee, Octagonal , Le Herve , Sadler's Wells , so many great horses.

Ruffian was an amazing girl. She proved girls can win too. She was beautiful. Tragic story for that girl.

Do you know that in the riding school where I learned to ride there is a mare called Sobótka. 😍 And Man O' War is her grand grand grand grand father. 🤣 Yeah, but anyways I am still proud I got to ride such a horse.

My ideas are Phar Lap (1926-1932) Red Rum (1965-1995) & Lady's Secret (1982-2003) she was a daughter of Secretariat!

Please could you make Brown Jack. When he was young no one liked him and everyone thought he was ugly. He was born in 1924 and lived to 1948. He ran his last race in 1932. But what makes him so memorable is that he stared racing as a 4 year old and won at the Royal Ascot 6 times consecutively. He was a dark bay almost black in winter and a lighter bay in summer. His only marking was a tiny star on his forehead. You videos are the best Abigail!

If you want to do a famous racehorse with an interesting coat, look up The Tetrarch, even older than Man O'War though!

These horses are beautiful! I can’t believe how young Ruffian was 😔 I reckon you should try making ‘Phar Lap’ He was a NZ racehorse and that’s all I know! You’ll have to google the rest

I have a suggestion for a famous race horse. I recommend doing Phar Lap, he is pretty much the Australian version of Secretariat with a very tragic story. He has his own movie called Phar Lap and he is my favourite race horse ever! He was also a very tall boy (17h)

a really underrated race horse that I really love is Riva ridge. No one talks about him that much and he's such and underrated gem as a race horse. He won more races than secretariat

Here is a suggestion of a racehorse and he is crazy famous in Australia His name is Carbine and was born on 18 September 1885 and Died on 10 June 1914 and only had one foal call Spearmint and his Record is 43:33-6-3 and win the Melbourne Cup in 1890 and his coat colour is nearly chestnut but still considered a bay and that is closest to you has a white sock and next is his backstory:Carbine was a champion New Zealand-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who won 30 principal races in New Zealand and Australia. He was very popular with racing fans, and sporting commentators of the day praised him for his gameness, versatility, stamina and weight-carrying ability, as well as for his speed.

I had never heard of Ruffian - I'm Australian, so Phar Lap is our most famous racehorse. Ruffian's story makes it obvious that racehorses are trained and raced FAR too early. At 3 years old the average horse hasn't even begun training under saddle yet. To put a horse under the tremendous physical stress as just 3 is inhumane. Had she been more mature, her injury may not have happened to the extent that she was destroyed. :(

Please do Zenyatta, the Dancing Queen of the racing world! Her top-notch dance moves and epic win-streak against all the boys won the hearts of millions. Her tragic story only started once she was retired to become a mother. Most of her foals didn't make it, but the ones who did haven't yet proven to be as good as their mother. But apparently recently (to my knowledge) she actually has given birth to a foal who people seem to have high hopes in. I do too. But Zenyatta is a tough legacy to repeat.

I know this isn’t a ‘famous racehorse’ but my cousin owns a racehorse called Glendene River (after a river in Ireland) she was put out of racing for a little bit two years ago because she injured her leg, and they put her in foal! She now has a pretty colt named Barney I believe. Her stable name is Tinkerbelle and she is a darker bay with a white star! I know she isn’t that popular but she is really wonderful and well tempered. Also I don’t support the racing industry BUT Tinkerbelle is not drugged or abused in any way. Her owners make sure she is healthy and happy. She is 17.1hh so she’s big lol Anyway she is a healthy and happy horse

with the heights i think a lot of thoroughbreds are in the 16hh region, i owned a chestnut thoroughbred and he was 16,3hh and there’s a GORGEOUS 16,2hh black mare called Rose who didn’t make it into the racing industry but i do think that lots of thoroughbreds are in the 16hh region! :D

Another way to explain how Ruffian passed: She was on her 11th race, which was her last, then mid race (I don’t remember when tho) her front left leg seemed the snap/break which caused her to need to be put down after the race..

Let's not tell her that all these horses she picked started racing at 2 (most racehorses do bc it's better for them, it allows their bones and joints to adapt to the demands of the sport. 2yr old racehorses have the least amount of racing related death of any racehorses to date)

Racing thoroughbreds have limited coat colors because of the registration. Thoroughbreds can come in any color, but only bays, chestnuts, blacks, and grays are allowed to race with restrictions on what markings they can have. It's the same with the crazy names. Horses are required to have unique names to be registered and allowed to run

Ooh! I really enjoyed this video and love all these racehorses! Maybe you could try American Pharoah, he’s a triple crown winner and broke the wait of 37 years. Truly incredible racehorse. He’s 10 years old and was born Feb 2012, sired foals, and he’s just amazing. He’s a beautiful bay with a black mane (Not sure if he has socks) and I was looking at a photo of him and he has VERY faint dapples. I’d say he’s about a middle preference, but front could also fit. He’s quite an amazing horse, and well-known in American horse racing. Also, maybe once you’ve done quite a few of these, you could breed them?

The fact that one was an underdog and beat a Triple Crown Winner (War Admiral) and one was a triple crown winner and in the Belmont stakes by 31 Lengths!? Amazing and blows my mind every time I watch the movies.

Hi Abi! I love that you commented on not supporting the racing industry. Recently in school we have been working on persuasive writing essays, and I did mine on why horse racing should be banned. I would love to get a perspective on my paper from such a big influence in the horse game community. If you would like me to send it to you, I would love you to read it. Thanks Abi, have an awesome day, I loved watching the video.
