I agree with you, I'm on SSID, so my budget is pretty tight. I started out buying Silver about a year ago and I actually got up to 100 ounces and then I had several emergencies happen and I had to sell it. It got me back on my feet but I realized that if I'd have had Gold I would be a whole lot better off. And next time the emergency might be a lot worse. So I started buying the 1/10th ounce Gold Eagles. I only have 3 so far but I'm scratching away it. I still love Silver and I do buy it here and there but I budget for Gold first now.

I look at silver a little different than gold vis-a-vis using it in an emergency. Gold for MAJOR direct purchases (even the smaller pieces) or as you said. Selling some for a boatload of cash. As an alternative to 1/10 i prefer to go with 2.5g bars. For the back up purposes you're saving the small amounts for i just think it makes sense to go with the lower premium you get from bars, i don't see a benefit over coins and bars there, gold is gold. I basically go with 1g bars (equivalent to 2oz ish of silver), 2.5g and 5g bars along with sovereign coins (1/4oz). Basically alternating between what i buy each month. You obviously save a little on premium if for instance you can buy 5x same bars at a time. I have 2023 as my target date for achieving current targets, when i think we'll start seeing serious moves with the central banks and digital currency, hyper inflation peaks etc when my cash is no longer good enough to buy. With silver premiums being hyked even more and VAT to worry about in the uk i don't anticipate reaching my gold target being as troublesome as silver, but so long as i'm covered fractional wise thats ok. I would like 3oz of sovereigns and 1.5oz of fractional bars as a minimum. I'd rather commit regularly to the smaller amounts than save, especially when i see more room for growth in gold atm, whereas silvers just too risky for my liking atm. Hoping to hit my gold targets early ready for when our silver situation is sorted.

I agree with most of it. But viewers should remember that things may be a little different in other parts of the world. I agree that saving up for a full ounce can for many people take quite some time with todays prices. Some of my coins I've saved up for buying scrap gold when stumbled upon it for scrap value or even less. That way I've turned my fiat currency into gold at that specific time without buying a full ounce at once. That scrap gold closely follows the value of the coins and when I have (almost) for an ounce I go exchange it for an ounce. Sure it's not for the inexperienced to buy scrap gold as there's a lots of traps but it is possible. But it's not the only thing I buy. Living in Europe we're not as focused only on a few American coins and perhaps a Maple when it goes high - here gold is much more equal across origin. That gives many advantages when buying "fractional" gold. Over time various dealers may have "sale" or campaigns on certain coins. Many vintage European coins are mostly always low premium not that far above the cheapest full ounce making them a very good choice for "fractional". But also brand new gold like the British Sovereign have very competive premiums at the moment. While I love full ounces I also like to diversify a little and having multiple sizes is also a benefit when you want to sell - especielly if there should ever be an SHTF scenario or just a period of high inflation - why liquidate more than you need to? But size can imho be too small. Generally I don't go lower than the French 20 francs. That is when I got have some money I want to turn into gold. It can happen I stumple upon smaller coins at very good prices. Once got a Danish 10 kroner and a Swedish 5 kronor in the same deal I believe it was slightly under spot - sure don't think fractional gold at spot just buy! Normally I'd stay far away from the Swedish 5 kronor. IMHO way too small and has too much collectors value to be bought at "regular" prices. But hey one day I could very well just barther it for a beat up 10 kroner instead - making the original deal even better and leaving both a collector and a stacker even happier.
@2is1gold3 жыл бұрын
The 20 francs LMUs were my smallest too. I liked that size but had trouble selling them here in the US unfortunately. Cheers!
@HifiCentret3 жыл бұрын
@@2is1gold That really says how different markets are! In Europe you'll have no trouble selling just about any gold coin - gold is gold and as long the authencity can be verified there's no issues. Wonder why the US seems to be so much different. I haven't heard a similar thing from other parts of the world either. From a stackers p.o.v. there seems only advantages. Personally I won't buy chinese coins under normal circumstances and many have the same opinion but that doesn't mean they're hard to sell as there's also many that doesn't have that opinion.

Hi! Thanks for the video and your time. So I’m on a very tight budget. I had a lot of costly dental expenses come around for a parent and other costly matters, unexpected. Thankfully I’d paid my mortgage up for the year, I bought a used yet practically new 2002 Honda Civic for slightly under 4K. However I needed to save some of what I had left. However it was important that I started with a small variety because I wanted this to become a way of life for me so I purchased two stacks of silver(I feel like one stack was not my best choice), few random silver Maple Leafs and silver Eagles and then purchased (5) 1/10oz gold. So from this moment on to a few months to remain consistent I’ll purchase hopefully one to two 1/4oz for some months until I can hopefully manage 1oz gold once a month( high expectations) but definitely every other month (fingers crossed).

I've looked at tons of different retailers and all their products, and did the math extensively on all of them. I've come to the conclusion that 5 gram gold bars are the cheapest way to stack gold. For some reason, premiums are slightly higher on anything more or less than 5 grams, and anything with some sort of design. Retailers seem to be able let go of their standard 5 gram bars for less. The difference isn't substantial ($20-30 an ounce), but every cent counts! (The only way that's cheaper than that is to buy damaged bullion at spot price, but they only sell by the ounce. No one's buying ounces on a budget)

@@2is1gold good plan. I like to have two emergency cash savings. One is for day to day emergencies (car repair, home emergencies, health etc). Two is for SHTF scenario. People focus too much on the GSR and totally ignore the ratios on the platinum group metals. I took advantage of the platinum to silver ratio when it hit 34:1 this summer. Traded 6,554 ounces of silver for 182 ounces of platinum. My average cost on the silver was only $12.81 and I sold it to my dealer in the summer at the height of the metals panic and he paid me $30 per ounce which was over spot at the time. I took whatever platinum he had in stock, which was 52 ounces, and placed an order for the rest which I got 3 weeks later. I'll play this game again over and over between whichever metal has the favorable ratio at the time. End goal is obviously gold but I sure as hell won't pay $2k+ per ounce or over pay for any metal. I'm a notoriously cheap bastard and I always find a way to save money....even a cent. My PSR trade this summer on the 182 ounces I traded for calculates out to $461.30 per ounce!!! This is why playing the ratios is so important. If I had originally purchased platinum instead of silver I'd have far less platinum for the same amount of money spent and a higher average cost per ounce. Have the patience and wait for ratio trades as they really pay off.

If AGE has a big premium over spot, then why not stack the 1/10 or 1/4 ounce in miniature bars rather than 1/10 AGE? Then sell em for a 1 oz AGE once you get there.
@2is1gold3 жыл бұрын
Maybe. AGEs are far more liquid, but if your goal is to trade them up, it might work out with the buy to sell spread. I'd say give a local coin shop a call and ask them what they give for bars. Cheers!

I traded all my Silver for more gold a few years ago. It just doesn’t hold value like gold does. Premiums are too high first of all. Also gold is much more liquid. Like you say, try selling 6k of silver. A lot of coins shops won’t buy that much. But they will always buy gold. It’s much more liquid.
@2is1gold4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's more liquid, but it's easier to sell (logistically) and has lower premiums for sure. Thanks for watching!

@@2is1gold wouldn’t “easier to sell” be more liquid? If something is harder to sell it’s less liquid than the item that’s easy to sell. That’s kind of the definition of liquid.

@@goldenbanjo197 I guess my point there is that silver is extremely liquid per unit. But if it's 100 units of silver to 1 unit of gold, then it's much easier to sell the gold even if they're similarly liquid.

Sound advice mate. I tend to like a mix of silver 1/2oz coins and a mix weight of bars 1oz to 10oz. Another option I've seen a lot of people do is buy up a lot of easy to move 1oz silver coins then sell for either 1/2oz heavier gold bar/coin as a lot of people where I live tend to avoid the smaller gold coin options under 1/2oz making them harder to sell. Bottom line for myself. If you've found something that works for you then stick to it and happy stacking!

Not sure 1oz is the way to go even with a bigger budget as it isn't easy to divide up. I stack sovereigns and 1/4oz gold you could go 1/10oz but still think buying 1/4 Oz less often is probably the way forward due to lower premiums, although you may miss out a little on dollar averaging, everything is a trade off . I used to stack both metals but gave up stacking silver a year back although I never sold my silver position. Silver was getting too bulky to store and expensive with premiums and taxes . 15k of gold easy fits in the hand if it was silver it probably won't fit in suitcase.
@2is1gold4 жыл бұрын
I’m more or less out on silver. I stopped years ago but didn’t trade out of (most of) it until this year. I dabble in Bitcoin instead now. If I was new or limited by budget, I’d be more interested in Ag. The thing with 1oz coins for me is that my dealers prefer that size over anything else, so as long as I have a handful of quarters, I’m happy with with the bulk in 1oz. Cheers!

You offer very sound advice for solely stacking. 1/4 ounce is actually the best choice as it has usually the best premium and one of the lower mintages for AGE. Also, maybe this video should be done again for those who like coin and currency collecting. It is difficult to even put aside $200 solely for gold. For me I strive to get the $2.5 Indian head gold coins simply because they do have numismatic value. The key I would think for this is to get the best quality coin you can get. Yes, it is not the best option but then it could be mitigated with buying more silver - I would think. For me my budget for coins is about $1,600 - 2,000 per year, so accumulating 3 ounces of gold looks like it may take me 5 years. If my income increases yes then I can invest in more numismatic gold coins. I do realize that there are some low mintage AGE's offered but they tend to have a high premium. So, does this sound like a decent accommodation for someone doing this only for about a year and desiring to collect some bullion but also interested in numismatic coins? Thanks for this video, it is refreshing to have one not from a perspective of stacking to address impending doom. The end of the world is always happening, it just happens to be your own or someone else's world rather everyone's.
@2is1gold4 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid to dive too far into the realm of numismatics (particularly pre-33) simply because I don't know enough about it. My ideal would be having gold that's worth the same to everyone, so I lean the other direction. @Silver Heist has me on his channel for a livestream this coming Tuesday where we're going to get into the topic, but his expertise there is quite a bit beyond mine. Thanks!
