Very informative. Other things prospective home buyers should consider are municipal fees, home maintenance savings, water & electricity. Also building/structural insurance or rates/taxes if buying in a sectional or complex. Do tons and tons of research to avoid getting a "good" debt you cannot service.

Absolutely, interests rates have gone down and so has the cost of buying. Ive seen some listed properties reduce their selling price because there aren’t alot of people buying at the moment, which would be an opportunity if you are currently looking to buy.

Save as much as you can and once you start work you can always increase it. You need to be well prepared and ready to make that decision so the earlier you start saving the better.

Hi Nthabiseng, so I want to ask how having a credit score worked for you, did you have one and did you need one for the home loan. If you did how did you build it up?

I good credit score is needed, basically it reflects how well you can keep up with your debt payment. If you do not have one it means you have never had a debt before, you will not get such a big loan without a good one. So they will tell you to go over a debt somewhere and pay for it over 6 months so that you will have a credit score and how well you keep to the payment will result in a good or bad one. I am just sharing my 2 cents

Hey hun, yes I had to build a credit record before applying. So I took out a credit card a few months prior as well as a clothing store account. I made sure to never miss a payment so I could have a good clean record. So, you will be required to have credit history.

Yes I am still paying for it hun and it didnt affect me/us at all after getting married. We discussed our Finances and how we want to manage them and are clear about our goals together as a couple. Honestly, Im not that clued up about rent-to-buy, Ive never gone that route. I would advise you to check property sites on google, they may be helpful with more detailed information. ♥️

Can you have two bonds at the same time if u get married before u finish paying it off? How long did it take to pay off cos some usually take +10years? Any tips on finishing early?

Hey hun, not a problem at all. The transition was not that bad because it meant the property was leased out and the money can now be directed to another property (which we both stay in). Yes you can have more than one bond, as long as your credit score is healthy and you qualify for those bonds.

I am still paying the property. You can put up more than your monthly instalment to ensure you finish paying sooner. Like now with interest rates having gone down, keep your monthly instalment the same, itll benefit you in the long term.
