It's why I never baby talked my sons. They're trying to learn how to talk, so let them learn how to talk.
@BethRami3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Developmental science PhD student here, "baby talk" actually serves as a really wonderful tool for helping children learn language ☺️ but there are two different ways that people approach this, and one of the ways is significantly better for development. So the first way, that many people do automatically, is actually what we call "motherese". Motherese typically has a more animated tone of voice (not necessarily high pitched, but it can be!) as well as elongated vowels and slowed down speech. An animated voice helps to maintain the child's attention, and the elongated vowels and slowed down speech helps them to recognize important differences in phonemes and sentence structure ☺️. The other type that is not so helpful is exaggerated baby talk. This is when you modify words to the point that they are pronounced incorrectly, such as saying "wittle baby wabbit" instead of "little baby rabbit". I hope this helps! ☺️

colleen i saw a tiktok about the history of the color pink and why it is associated with girls. It actually was a big moment in female empowerment. I'll recap it here for anyone who wants to learn but pink wasn't actually assigned a gender up until Mamie Eisenhower ( President Eisenhower's wife) her favorite color was pink and wore it constantly because she liked it so much. She became such an iconic role to woman and her fashion at the time really was what started the new trends of fashion that would later follow. So pink being a girl color isn't a bad thing and it actually shows women empowerment at a time when women were starting to make more of a name for themselves by working in factories after WW2. It is quite interesting. Pink isn't just for girls but it in history has shown to be an important part of a women's strength and power. Just wanted to share what i learned recently.

I don't think Colleen was saying or implying that there was anything wrong with the color pink. Just that it's absolutely ridiculous that several of the "girl" toys were more expensive than the "boy" toys, even though the toys were the exact same thing/product, but just different coloration.

I think it never matters to kids what color toys are. Flynn is like "I don't care what color it is, all I see is dar dar and big truck." When I was little in the 90's I had an almost exact thing with the shoes in it. I always wore the blue ones because I 100% thought I was Cinderella. I wore them outside and caught rollie pollies and stuck them in the castle I made out of legos.

Yesss I know that she means like ‘stereotypical’ girls toys which shouldn’t be a thing!!! Kids don’t care, they’re kids, they only get a preference when they are forced on them. I also love how non subjective she is with using the word ‘stereotypes’ instead of what girls and guys are ‘meant’ to play with. I love Colleen and stereotypes suck !!! 🥰

It's amazing that Colleen is such a supportive mother and giving her children access to all toys and letting them pick what they like, but it's also hilarious that her first son (Wes and Maisy are still babies) is the most stereotypical boy and drawn to trucks and cars and bugs. I'm glad that he is being introduced to all toys even if they aren't his favorite, plus maybe one of his new siblings will like toys like this and Flynn will be open to playing with them. (:
