Overwhelmed with the card they had at the nationals, and I felt like I wanted to make a deal with all types of cards on the first day or two. No one wanted to sell at comp or even close to comp, so I waited til Sunday(even tho I took a chance of the cards being gone), I made 3 plays on Sunday, got a 86 Fleer MJ RC PSA 7.5, Bird/Magic Topps RC PSA 7(awesome eye appeal, no print dots), and Topps Gretzky PSA 6 RC.

Congrats on the 51 Mantle! I've always loved that card. I think you should have bought the Memory Lane PSA 5 Mantle at $125k. That seemed like a very good price for the grade. The eye appeal wasn't quite as good in terms of the centering, but that was a damn good price in my opinion.

Excellent move on the 1951 Bowman Mantle. The 1951 will definitely gain more value and has much more room for growth! As for the 1952 Topps, I doubt you'll find a nice one without a massive premium, due to most people factoring in the new anticipated price hike thanks to this new record being set. This 1952 Topps Mantle card is about to reach new heights, and I think all his cards will follow.

51 Bowman Mantle is not an "off brand" or a regional release like other cards/Jordan Star cards for example. It is his true rookie and the 52 Topps was always labeled in Beckett and other guides as FTC (First Topps Card). Same with the 51 May's, as everyone knows that is his rookie. Both Mantle and May's have a 52 Bowman as well/2nd year card.

Before there was Topps, there was Bowman! If not for Bowman, Sy Berger would have never designed the 52 set to complete with Bowman. Thank you Bowman for modernizing baseball in 1948!!

No Geoff, it's not SOME consider the 51 Bowman to be his true rookie. It IS his true rookie lol. I understand why the 52 is more iconic and more important. But it's not a debate on what's the rookie card. I do think the 51 is relatively undervalued. 51 is the smarter pickup

When my dad was a kid and collected 50s Baseball, him and his friends at school would play a game where they throw the cards against a wall. When they fell on whatever your card landed on top of you got to keep. Including 52 Mickey Mantles. Of course completely ruining every card.

My older brother had an 86 Fleer Jordan that he thumb-tacked to his bedroom wall. We used to have a polaroid of it back in the late 80's. I have no idea what happened to that card.

Back then they also used to insert those old baseball cards in between bike spokes so that they they would make this rat-a-tat-tat sound whenever you rode your bike.

The 10 million dollar question. What kept the card from being a Gem Mint card? What little imperfection kept it from half a grade higher? The 3.5 Mantle, Kurt from Kurt's Card Care could have gotten that crease out and could have made it a 5.

I started buying mostly vintage about a year ago. Just got burned on prospecting. Not one single prospect ever lived up to the hype. So I only buy Ohtani for modern. Cards still way undervalued. Mac Jones ,mbappe, and ja are the only other non baseball I'm buying. Have a few Trevor lawrences but still has a lot to prove.

Not even gonna lie, 90% of the dealer were not going for COMPS, they were all 15-25% above comp, but when you offer them cards for sell, they freaking were offering 60% comp. 😢😢🤦‍♂🤦‍♂.

Just thinking with all the alternative selling markets popping up and huge cards shows, was wondering if there was a way to track or add sales like this to market movers. I agree with the "wish" to include other sales platforms, but hard to imagine how that could be possible. Some view the current ways of comping through Ebay, Alt etc to be an advantage when buying "unrecorded" transactions because they can flip immediately since their own comp won't show up.

the 52 mantle isn’t iconic because it is or isn’t a true rookie card; it’s iconic because micky’s facial expression. it communicates something emotionally that other cards cannot convey. the nicest card to look at in the entire hobby.

I don’t understand the debate the 51 Bowman pre-dates the 52 Topps therefore being Mantles true Rookie card the only factor making the 52 Topps so prominent is the extreme rarity of the card. Mickey Mantles rookie is the 1951 Bowman. Congratulations Geoff amazing acquisition.

Imo the 9.5 may not increase the value of all the 52 mantles because everyone is in the same mindset. You’re going to see a lot of the 52s got to auction after that massive 9.5 sale. Which may actually drive down the price of the lower graded ones. Food for thought.

I think there’s way more demand than their is supply. I have a trimmed Mantle. I won’t sell, but it gets so much attention because it’s one of the most affordable copies you’ll find . Every time one of these goes up for sale I get random people that know I have it messaging me about mine

Tyson Fury Rookie Boxing Cards are the cards to buy and hold on to. There are more Michael Jordan Rookie cards and Wayne Gretzky Rookie cards then there are Tyson Fury Rookie cards. Tyson Fury cards are very Limited and only a small amount were made. As long as he stays Undefeated, his cards will continue to rise even Higher!! Congratulations on the "true" Mantle RC Geoff. For a 5? Looks great IMO. My take on the 52T Mantle? The sale of the 9.5 is over hyping it and right now? That's a card I feel more like if ya "missed the boat?" Ya missed the boat. Wait down the road. The 52T may come a little more down to earth. It's one I wished I had picked up in the early 90s. BTW. i'm a rookie collector. i have the topps traded 1986 bonds in a psa 10. i don't even consider his 1987 topps his rookie. thats his 2nd year. i don't care if its his MAIN topps brand rookie. its whatever card comes out first and has their official rookie. the 1952 mantle is his 2nd year. not a rookie. his 1951 bowman IS HIS ROOKIE. give me that card all day every day. the price makes more sense as well
