A note to people in the UK: Our sprinkles do not have the same preservatives as American sprinkles and therefore tend to bleed into the cake batter if mixed in and disappear. I would recommend just using them on the outside :)

@@jezieruby Cake flour just has ower ability of forming extensive gluten networks, making cakes lighter and fluffie. Maybe you have soft flour in australia?? If not just search up subsitutes

I find it so interesting that in America this is a birthday cake. In my country birthday cake is whichever cake you want for your birthday with candles on top. This is a white cake with sprinkles (which only add color, not flavor )

In America, it's traditional for birthday cakes to be colorful, but many people do request birthday cakes to be other flavors, basically any flavor that is a normal cake flavor. Chocolate is extremely common. A basic cake is white like this, but there are plenty of other options.

It's not "birthday cake." It's a white confetti cake. Confetti cakes are really popular with kids here so they've become the "birthday cake" du jour. Anything "birthday cake" flavored here is just vanilla cake flavored. A bday cake is any cake you enjoy on your birthday!

Tip: if you don’t have cake flour you can substitute 1 tbls of corn starch for every 1 cup of flour in the recipe Ex: 4 cups of flour 4 tbls (1/4 cup) corn starch

That works in a normal creaming cake but not in a reversed creaming cake. Gluten will form because you whip the flour for so long. Just buy flour with little gluten. Here it is called pastry flour.

The only thing I would add is McCormick's birthday cake extract. I add 1 tsp of that alongside the vanilla in the batter..... And 1 tsp in my buttercream frosting. It's expensive, $5 for a couple oz. I probably wouldn't do it if I was just serving this to kids. But that can be your secret ingredient 😀❣️. Great video.

just thought id give a quick tip. buttercream tends to be off white or yellowish in colour because of the butter. if you want that bright white then put the TINIEST amount of purple food colouring in it. and use powdered or gel. NOT the liquid kind. also if you want dark red or black, get it as "dark" as possible (with out using all of your food colouring) and microwave it for a few seconds. not enough to melt it but the colour will become much darker

wow, that's a lot of butter! I make a non-dairy crusted buttercream icing that uses high ratio shortening and tastes amazing and it has a long shelf life and does not have to be refrigerated, it also is pure white in color
