Really enjoying the acting in this show, but it definitely presumed you would know a lot of the original plot and was hard for my partner to follow along without having read the series, glad it's getting a second season.
@gilian25873 жыл бұрын
I was afraid of that. There's 10,000+ pages of source material that they are trying to adapt. Rafe said he needed 10 episodes for season 1, Amazon only gave him 8.

Your horse is named Mandarb, Lan! Did they rename the horses? Justice to WOT horses!

Maybe it was the horse's actual name rather than Rosamund calling it by its "character" name? That last scene from episode 6 with Lan and Moiraine and their horses was really sweet 🥺

@@lalelu1202 The Hadori is the name of the leather band around Lan's head in the books. I don't really expect Daniel (the actor) to know everything I know, though. Interviews can also be stressful so people say the wrong word even when they know the right one.

@@Setres09 I was interpreting the statement that the actress made, not the position of women in fantasy or specifically the tropes for women in other fantasy vs wheel of time. It seems that Zoe perhaps does not understand why the women in wheel of time weild so much power over men. Hence my reference to the taint (still makes me giggle after all this time, yes I am a child). I totally agree with the female trope in lots of fantasy, not all. I recently re-read a series that I had read when I was much younger and the female characters were awful. Jordan really set out to make it his goal to turn those plot mechanical females on their heads and create genuine women, something that didn't permeate the genre prior to his arrival. I think the hard core inclusive activist types, who will be drawn to this show for the strong female characters, are going to be deeply disappointed, but the same can be said for those looking for a predominantly male driven story, which I suspect there are fewer of.

@@Setres09 After reading your comment above, the thought occurred to me to suggest 'Enchantment' by Orson Scott Card. I would be curious to hear what you think of it. It's probably among the most unusual fantasy novels I have ever read. Science fiction authors who dip their toes into fantasy seem to come up with some very different ideas. Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber is outstanding. So... 'Enchantment' is a little strange; but the Amber series, I recommend without reservation.

Depends on the microcosm. Emonds Field is balanced in the books between the Village Council, which is patriarchal; and the Women's Circle, which is matriarchical. Most villages are bicameral, like this. The Children of the Light are unambiguously a patrriarchy. The White Tower is unambiguously a matriarchy. There's all kinds of factions that haven't even been introduced, yet. It's quite balanced, in the books.
@spencergellsworth3 жыл бұрын
There are patriarchal societies in the Westlands, but most of the societies Jordan liked to write about--the Aiel, the Aes Sedai, the Two Rivers--are matriarchal or egalitarian. IIRC, the otherwise-good-guy Borderlands are patriarchal, with a few little exceptions.
@gokbay30573 жыл бұрын
@@spencergellsworth Borderlands are kinda equalish. (Equal number of Kings and Queens at the start of the books) Thought being a martial society they are probably closer to patriarchy than matriarchy (60-40 or 70-30 balance, probably). Since military matters are masculine matters.
