One will not see the green fairy but they will get wasted pretty easily. The stuff tastes pleasant and not very alcoholic so it's easy to have a glass or two (or three) and it will knock you flat.

My stepfather was never a drunk. In fact, he was pretty uptight his entire life. However, one night he went out with a close friend of his, who was basically an uncle to my family. That night they had absinthe and got too drunk to drive themselves home, so my stepfather called his friend's son to pick them up. When they got home, my stepfather recalled that he had licked rainwater off of a car's windshield and found a man in a pink suit on top of a lamp post. Upon encountering this man, my stepfather said, "Hey, you're awesome." And the man replied, "No, YOU'RE awesome." After telling this story, my stepfather then threw up in the garden. Absinthe: Fun for the whole family.

Original Absinthe was made with wormwood, which IS hallucinogenic.
@jimwinslett95839 жыл бұрын
Gretchen Evoquer all absinthe is made with wormwood. The reason it's legal again is because the original ban was based on a BS move by French winemakers who saw absinthe as a threat to their business. YES, wormwood has thujone, a chemical that can cause psychosis, but (as was proven with a bottle of pre-ban absinthe and modern chemical analysis, which helped get the ban lifted) it's only in trace amounts. You'd die of alcohol poisoning several times before you got enough thujone from absinthe to see things. Absinthe is highly alcoholic and smooth enough to drink quickly, which is why it affects people like it does.

We mix the absinthe, but before we put in the water we dip the sugar cube in the alcohol in the glass, put it on the spoon and set it on fire. After it's caramellized a bit you dip the sugar spoon in the glass and you'll have a flame in your glass, it's very pretty and we usually turn off the lights once the fire comes into play. Its a very pretty blue flame. After a bit you mix in the ice cold water and put out the fire with it and it's ready to drink. It's a very eventful drink
@billysgeo7 жыл бұрын
They are using the more traditional method, with water. The "flame method" is a modern invention that barmen made.

Do you not know what Absinthe is?
@nonvalid9625 жыл бұрын
Its just strong alcohol...
@anthonytooley18335 жыл бұрын
@@nonvalid962 - No it isn't. Absinthe is an herbal alcohol made from the psychoactive plant wormwood, among others. Wormwood on it's own is very psychoactive, I encourage you to read the erowid experience vaults, or try it yourself before disputing it because it sounds like the "absinthe" you've had didn't contain wormwood. Absinthe made from wormwood is indeed highly psychoactive. Alcohol acts as a carrier for the triterpenoid lactones found in wormwood, which are speculated to be psychoactive. Thujone, also found in wormwood acts as a GABA agonist (the opposite to alcohols mechanism), so it may in fact actually decrease the effects of the alcohol, but is found in small amounts so it's hard to say. Most absinthe is not really "absinthe" because it doesn't contain wormwood, just anise and other ingredients used to flavor absinthe. Real absinthe has wormwood, so until you try it you won't know. Wormwood is readily available, you can even soak it in some sort of vodka and make something similar. I reckon the folks in this video drank real absinthe.
@bentenboy135 жыл бұрын
@@anthonytooley1833 absinthe, like, isn't psychoactive at all though??? Wormwood is only psychoactive if you take enough to probably kill you since a chemical in it is toxic. Absinthe was labelled as halucinagenic by wine companies in the 19th century because is was a drink of artists and other common folk so they pushed out propoganda against it. It is in no way halucinagenic by itself and they were indeed overreacting to the drink by a lot. When it's diluted that much it isn't even that alcoholic by volume anymore. It's just a poor man's drink that was reinvented as artisinal and sold as a controversial drink. Scientific review has shown that the drink has no halucinagenic properties and that there is no grounds for that basis beyond "scientists" in the 70's and 80's who were avidly against the selling of absinthe who clinged to the publications of other anti absinthe scientists who were publishing papers to outline that absinthe may potentionally by halucinagenic due to the nature of one of the chemicals (the one you listed I forget the name already) to be in some way shape or form structurally similar to cannabis. Sooo... Do some reading up on a topic before you post dude. It even says in the video it's not hallucinogenic and I assume the producers at least googled it first and would have found that it's not. Edit: the ban wasn't even because of "hallucinations" it was because they claimed it made people violent and "beastly" and so they ended up propogating the idea that only people who are poor, violent, and criminal drink it so they could easier get it banned

Absinthe, or 'The Green Fairy' as it is sometimes called, was hugely popular in France during the Belle Epoque (Late 1800s) particularly with the bohemians, writers and artists in Paris at the time. The common misconception that Absinthe causes hallucinations is mostly down to its associations with artists Vincent Van Gogh and Henri de Touleouse-Lautrec who helped to perpetuate the myth due to their rather strange and vivid depictions of life in their painting and works - not to mention their severe alcoholism (Henri de Touleouse-Lautrec is even credited for inventing the drink 'Le Earthquake' consisting of equal parts Absinthe and Cognac which he drunk during his bouts of depression). Claims regarding Absinthe's hallucinogenic properties in modern times have been utterly refuted, although cases where hallucinations were reported after consuming Absinthe during the 19th century are mostly down to poisonous ingredients added to cheap versions of the drink, including oil of wormwood and copper salts. Also there seems to be a placebo/psychosomatic element whereby people drink it assuming they'll experience hallucinogenic effects and thus interpret their inebriation in this way.

More Italian - Czech drinking drama: In Prague, 2002, last year of high school, had pure shots plus the flambe’ version with an absinthe drenched sugar cube set on fire inside a shot glass. You tap the glass with your palm, then slide it underneath a bit until it reaches your fingers. Then you spread them apart just a bit and take a full breath of those fumes and drink the rest. Ended up doing pole dance with my computer science teacher and another couple of friends. Then the whole class took a local bus back to the hotel. In the bus we realized one could remember where our stop was, and the only person who was able to communicate a bit in Czech was me. Made it safe as Absinthe speaks all languages. Amen.

Samantha Friginal Absinth is a herb destilate, so it has a bit greenish tint (depends on destilation). Those green colored things are not absinth, they are just colored and tasted alcohols. "TheBarser" Those are not absinths.
@TheBarser8 жыл бұрын
Peter Jakubik It is not? But is says so on the bottle. One is called: absinthe jacques senaux. the other which I already drinked was called: absinthe teichenne. Seems kinda weird they can call it absinthe then. Maybe it is not the real deal as they where terrible cheap, but can you tell me what brands is then?
@Jashtvorak8 жыл бұрын
TheBarser You can distinct between real and fake absinthe by comparing method of production. Real - destillation Fake - mix of essences www.absinthes.net/eur_abs_en/jacques-senaux-70-green-70cl.html is fake Not sure about teichenne. The fake one are called absinthes because they used to be the only that were around when the real deal was banned. But they just blended pure alcohol with flavour and color to imitate the taste.

But what is the alcohol percentage? You can get 40% vol. absinthe and all the way up to 98% vol. absinthe, maybe more. And also what kind of herbs are they drinking, because absinthe can be made with so many different spices. For example in Norway, the ones that is known to make you hallucinate is illegal, but there is some that you can drink.
@FletcherWolfe6 жыл бұрын
Traditionally absinthe has a very very high alcohol content. All proper absinthe are made with wormwood. Now I notice they’re drinking two different types of absinthe because there is a type of absinthe that is made without the secondary herb coloring process

Absinthe's reported hallucinogenic properties come from the thujone in the wormwood, artemisia absinthium, used to make it, which is also where its reported toxicity comes from. Other common flavorings include green anise and sweet fennel.
