If she narrated books on tape I’d never read another book. I could listen to her all day. The variety of expression and tone and interest in her speaking voice is as mesmerizing as her singing voice. It makes me think that it’s her heart and mind that are really extraordinary--but on top of it she was blessed with a great voice. What an artist.

Judy was always so busy working every day in her short life I really don’t think she had time to know just how great she was or had time to even reflect. Reflection takes time and she worked constantly she was putting out fires every day by constantly working . We all had Judy . Who did Judy have ?

I saw the poster for her "concert" at Carnegie Hall in '62 and for some dumb reason thought it meant she was going to appear on stage with other singers. One of the greatest regrets of my 85 years is that I didn't even try to get a ticket.

Thanks for a great post yet again. I'm wondering who the interviewer is. His voice seems familiar from my childhood & NY area radio but the name is escaping me. I wish someone would back you in putting together a TV documentary. The material you unearth would make for a great program full of the unique, certainly not routine, retreaded same old stories 'about' her but more 'from' her & about the behind the scenes working artist & human being as we hear here. What makes me angry is all the people who claim to have been at that concert. Carnegie Hall would have to have seated a million people for that to be true. I have had people describe the concert in detail because “they were there” and many of these people weren’t even born in 1961 or before.

I have heard people describing in detail the concert and even having programs from the concert but they couldn’t possibly have been there because they were born after 1961. One was giving a lecture on Garland’s life and presented himself as an expert on her later years. This guy charged money to attend his talk too. I looked up the guy online and found out he was born in 1962. When I challenged him and exposed him as a liar that he couldn’t have possibly have attended the Carnegie Hall concert he had security escort me out. As I was escorted out I yelled back at the audience to look this guy up online. He wasn’t born until 1962. He couldn’t possibly have been at that concert. He is making all this up. Also I had a similar experience with a guy at a collectible show claiming he saw Garland in London during her last performance there. Again I looked this guy up and he was another fake born after the concert. I am so sick of all these “they were there” fakes. To me these frauds are dishonoring Judy Garland’s memory. I am a big Garland fan and old enough to have seen her in person but I never claim to have because it is the truth that I didn’t. I never saw her in person. I did get the Carnegie Hall concert lp when it came out. Also you have no idea how many people have told me they were extras in the film Meet Me In St. Louis and offer personal reminiscences of knowing her on the set. Again frauds who weren’t even born when that film was made. I wanted to punch one of these frauds. He said he was an extra and said Garland showed up every day drunk to the set and he said he saw her vomit right in front of him. What a horrible thing to say from a fraud I found out was born in 1946.

Also have read every book on her and could probably win a trivia contest but will stop bragging.These people are ill who claim things and I'd just LOL if I were you. When Garland was at her best NO ONE could touch her not Babs,Ella, Billie etc and I love them also.Judy was a genius and her great singing was otherworldly!

@@jazzguy1927 Sid was great for Judy and yes have read and reread it. I think this time in Judy's life the most interesting from 1950 on and how she met Sid in New York night club. He had her do all her great concerts and greatest pic "Star". Many negative people say he used her but unfortunately who didn't? After they divorced things really went down and she married all those hangerons!! In the end I believed he truly loved her. They had two great children Lorna and Joey!!
