Put one together today. Got it right the first try. Thanks for the tutorial. I have a second one ready to go. Printing out the dual display station now. :)

Ooo, awesome! Is that the case designed by Option8 on Thingiverse? I've printed their Apple ][+ Raspberry Pi case, and even did a video with it printed in black. I printed (on paper) a Bell & Howell label for it, to finish it as a "Darth Vader" Apple ][+ around May of last year.

Great walk-through Bryan. I built one from Chris's video after you showed it on the unboxing (not with a Mac body though, sorry lol) It works great, so I brought a slightly bigger 1.3" screen for it. Thanks for the SPIFFS explanation, when you mentioned it I remembered that I had wondered what it meant, and what it was for, when I first used a D1 mini, but never researched it. Now I know 👍

Hi Spike! Sorry for the delay - I haven't been completely keeping up with comments! SPIFFS is a pretty cool little feature. I always wondered how people were able to make little embedded web servers with these things, and SPIFFS makes sense. 😉

Cool project Bryan! I love the esp8266, I think they are amazing!
@BV3D5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! Sorry I hadn't got 'round to replying to you yet! I like the little board used in this project. That WiFi ability is something I think I can make use of. In particular I've got a really old scrolling LED sign that appears to have serial input. If I can figure out how to write to it, I can probably put something together with one of these esp8266 boards so I can update the sign's message via a little web page.

tip: you NEED to get a wire stripper if you solder regularly. They are quite cheap and they are soooo nice! I recommend this one: weicon tools no.5 made in germany

Awesome vid! Check out Paramount 3D Game Cartridge Grey for an old electronics look. It’s not like the apple beige but still cool.
@BV3D5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! The Game Cartridge Gray looks a bit dark; it would make a good accent color. The Prototype Gray is a bit lighter, and might be better for the mid-1990s off-white PC cases! Between the two of them I could probably print a decent-looking Apple //e Platinum (it was that off-white, with darker gray keycaps, and its keyboard had a numeric keypad that pushed the boundaries for cramming such a wide keyboard in a standard Apple // case.

Hi and thanks! This was a fun little project to put together, and I would be surprised if there was not a model of an IBM PC (like the 5150) with a monitor you could build this project into. Or maybe a PS/2 model 25?

Hi, Awsome project. Wonder if you could help me, as I would love to get this working, as I am so near.... I have sucessfully programmed it and setup my wifi, But when I connect to it via a web browser to do the final stages all I get is the html text which the page is constructed with. Have tried firefox and chrome, which show the same. What have I missed...

3DPrintingCanada has a Beige coloured filament by NEAT Filaments that is similar to classic Mac colours before Apple switched to platinum for later Macs. Link : 3dprintingcanada.com/products/beige-1-75mm-neat-filaments-premium-pla-1-kg also this "grey", which is more of an eggshell off-white : 3dprintingcanada.com/products/light-grey-1-75mm-neat-filaments-abs-1-kg

@BV3D5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the IDE doesn't have permission to use COM4. I don't know if it's because some other application is using COM4, or if there's a permission setting somewhere. You *might* try rebooting, and then getting into the IDE right after you log in, without opening any other applications. No guarantees that will work, but it's worth a shot.

Problem: Thank you Bryan for an exceptional tutorial. My setup is exactly the same but I don't see the SPIFFS in the flash settings. Instead I see 4 Meg FS:1mb 1019KB. Otherwise everything went per the video, except nothing on the screen after the download to the ESP. Any ideas please?
@rogertuffin68814 жыл бұрын
Found part of the answer, that the current ESP8266 is 2.7.4. Bryan installed 2.5.2. Installing that enabled SPIFFS to be visible. But, although everything compiles, nothing appears on the screen, although tried 2 different boards and screens.
@rogertuffin68814 жыл бұрын
Still not working, so tried a different board and screen. Still not working. Tried to do a fresh install on the Mac, but after deleting and re-installing the Arduino app, everything was still there. Made a fresh install (slowly) on a Windows PC. Compiler said Settings.h file missing, so installed Arduinojson.h (which is supposed to be included already). Compiled ok now, downloaded to board, but nothing on the screen. Tried on second board and screen - nothing. Clearly something wrong, but with two different installs, two different boards and screens. Sadly out of options. Anyone in the UK flash a board for me please?

Update: Followed on on the video and got into the app by using the browser on my phone by finding the IP address. All working and configured, by still the screen is not working even though the connections triple checked.

Thanks! I like it, but that illustration has a technical error. There are four screws which hold the CRT to the front of the case. They should be shown coming through the tabs on the CRT from behind, to secure it to the front, but the illustration shows the screws going into the front of the CRT. 😄
