I think you are starting to see what I would call the Mamamoo effect on K-pop groups. I think that act and a few others raised the bar for girl groups needing the whole group to be strong singers and not just a bunch of sub-vocalists and passable rappers built around just 1 or 2 really good singers. Also if you were going to have a rapper, it needed to be someone who could really rap.
