As a Pashtun, I have been raised with a veneration for old weapons. The 1911 the 92 and older 12 gauges from the top manufacturers are considered heirlooms and passed in from generation to generation along with headgear like Patkai (Pag) and Karakulis. Going back to why G3s and AK47/74 and MP5s are still being used in modern forces. Reliability/safety is the biggest concerns with small arms, followed by longevity and cost effectiveness. 7.62x51/.308,, 7.62x39 and 9x19 are cheap and easily available rounds, that were purpose built through fairly recent scientific knowledge and experimentation. The materials used are of high enough quality to last a long time (CHF barrel will fire accurately for 5000 rounds, with high accuracy, maybe even 10,000 if maintained properly) and it costs about $1000. I'm not sure if Salman Ali discussed this but aside from the great reliability, the G3 offers range and firepower superiority for first contact operations in enemy controlled territory, as you mentioned. With a $200-500 scope and minimum training, an idiot can hit the target from 600-800 meters away, with about 30-50% hit rate. The Mid Range (300 yards) is covered By AKs and they are suitable for urban warfare, For CQB MP5 all day. I love the MP7 but it costs $15,000 in the civilian market and the round are expensive and hard to find. AKs are suited to both the short and the medium range and will out gun most small arms, hence why they're the most common weapon in the Hands of Military and Law enforcement. Talking about aviation, The F-16 is the most used and effective air platform, while the other American jets have better capabilities and the F-35 has been promising to be the be All and End All of fighter jets, for the last 2-3 decades but its still a Dud. F-16 much more reliable and cheaper to make and keep in the Air. I agree with the PAF's approach too updating older, cheaper and reliable platforms with New Radar, Avionics and Weapons and they'll get the job done for decades to come.

Hey Mr. Aflaatoon let me tell you what exactly a particular gas operating system makes the difference in the rifle functionality. Roller delayed mechanism operates sluggishly jumping up and down while cycling. Other systems like DI or short stroke work in very aggressive snapping fashion. So you can easily put multiple shots on the target far more easily and quickly than the delayed mechanism rifle. That means a better recoil management and crisp sight picture in other systems. Secondly, You can adjust multiple gas settings in short/long stroke piston rifles depending upon the condition and/or configuration of the rifle setup. But in roller delayed you are pretty much stuck with whatever the designed factory setting is. So there wouldn't be no adverse or supressed gas settings on the go in delayed blowback system, which in turn effects the reliability of the weapon at crucial moments. The plug and play use of suppressors is in itself a huge advantage over the unsuppressed weapons. No, it wouldn't work like call if duty game. It's very difficult to triangulate the source of supressed fire even if you can hear the crack of a normal round fired at you. Suppressed fire is good for hearing protection, situational awareness and communications of the firing team and adversary can't return fire effectively if they can't accurately locate your position. Short/long stroke pistons also work cleaner as they don't directly pump burning gases back into the rifle, thus improving the reliability and life of the system. So thats why most of the world dumped roller delayed mechanism in favor of the short stroke gas system system. Thanks!

Whermacht developed weapons that could not be maintained if it falls into enemy hands. Also 7.62 x 51 round is not easily available .It is also more compact in size compared the rather large G3A3 and heavy.

Hum already copy kar rahay hein in Peshawar. CNC based AR-15 rifles say lay k Glock series and CZ series already in production hein outside of POF. POF is also working on newer designs. A gun is just a tool. It will improve. We already have a formidable weapons system. We just need to improve it more for our jawans to be more effective.
