It is very awesome to see this in action rather than inside the train yards. They really put in hard work to combine these subway cars into a full-length 8 or 10 car train. Passengers are only allowed to travel in between cars in an emergency. If they are caught, they will be summoned

Most likely in the late spring when the first glimpses of daylight start about 4:30 AM and sunrise is between 5:30 and 5:45 AM.

The every 20 minute late night frequency is not enough to adequately serve both terminals, so they send trains to Far Rockaway only. For the shuttle, I believe they take two regular A train sets and break them up into four sets of 4 cars. However, I believe they only use three of them. For a while, they sent trains to Leffert's Blvd only at night, but later realized that it was better to use Far Rockaway so that people on the south side of the Rockaway Peninsula didn't have to transfer twice.

At one time there used to be a "round robin" shuttle that served both Rockaway Park and Far Rockaway using the south leg of Hammels Wye which is no longer used by any regular service. At other times there was a service which ran to Broad Channel where the train was split and one half ran to Rockaway Park and the other ran to Far Rockaway. When the trains returned to Broad Channel in the other direction they were rejoined which must have been an adventure using the Arnines whose couplers weren't always reliable.

There have been many changes to the service patterns on the Rockaway IND trains since service began in 1956. At one time there was a late night round robin shuttle which served the entire Rockaway peninsula. It seems like the current operation provides the best service possible. The A train route is the longest in terms of mileage (32.39) on the entire subway system.

2:40 those cross barriers were added later because stupid people used to jump in the middle notice how it looks like it was welded later on. I never seen a train being connected at a regular station usually by the train yard. Iam glad the lefferts station wasn't demolished like the J train at 168th St and Jamaica Ave. I took the A train just to see how's it's been looking all of these years. My aunt used to live nearby that was in the 70s.
