Maurice, I love your vids man, but you gotta review stuff that is more affordable more often. This bag is dope, but its priced beyond its value for most of us who only fly a few times per year. The video is interesting, but there is a sense of foreboding that hangs over the video with the price. I want to buy things you recommend because I trust your experience, but your value for money vs my value for money dont add up and it feels like we're completely out of touch. In addition I think its unrealistic to not include price/ value for money as "the only 5 categories that matter".

Looks like a great pack with many features and very well reviewed. My personal favorite travel backpack (I used it for 3 weeks in Europe as carry-on) is the Osprey Porter 46. Similar - 46litre capacity, opens wide like a suitcase, tough nylon material, tuck away comfy shoulder straps and waste belt and super strong. Lighter at 3.45 pounds (1.5KG) and much cheaper at US$195. In my opinion less zips and compartments makes it much less accessible to thieves, is easier to pack and find things, and less zips to wear out . Totally agree with you about the water in Switzerland, it is so refreshing.

Maurice obviously likes a bag with lots of organization (pockets, compartments, dividers, etc.) made from fairly durable (heavier) fabric. Of course it's all about tradeoffs. As you say much lighter bags exist, and those bags will have fewer "organizational features" and, or lighter fabric or will be lower capacity. This is all individual preference. If you insist on "carry-on only" then this wouldn't affect you, but: If you ever decide to check this bag, airlines tend to toss bags onto belts front-side down--if you put your chargers and other electronics in the front pouch, they'll be getting crushed repeatedly by whatever weight is inside, along with the impact force from being tossed from a few feet up. For my check-in luggage I'm always keeping clothes or something else resilient in the front pocket.

When traveling and going carry-on only, I use a 45l Incase clamshell duffle bag that they no longer make. It doesn't have the versatility of this Pakt but it's got plenty of volume thanks to it's rectangular shape and squared off corners. It's saved me plenty of times from being forced to check my bag in since I've been able to squeeze it into an overhead compartment that was "full". Frankly, there should be a lot more enforcement of carry-on sizing because when you're group 3,4 or 5 there should still be some room for luggage but group 1 and 2 rolled into the plane with their hard sided Away luggage which takes up all the overhead. But it's not all the fault of other travelers as a lot of blame can be put on the airlines as well. Creating subclass fares and not overhauling the overhead bins has caused major headaches too.
@jam_is_jammin11 ай бұрын
The biggest problem is the people in Zones 1&2 put BOTH their carryon & personal item in the overhead bin. That’s selfish. Personal items should go under the seat in front of you and the space in the overhead bins should be cubbies that are labeled with your seat#. The airlines could fix this but they won’t. I travel carryon only and hate it when my luggage gets confiscated & “checked for free.”
@derpydestinies10 ай бұрын
@@jam_is_jammin I just came back from Orlando last week and jumped on an earlier flight than I was booked. Thanks to my soft sided duffle, I was able to avoid checking it in. I like this bag but the problem is, these boutique bags are super expensive. I do my one bag backpack travel with a North Face or Converse backpack with packing cubes and a belt bag. Works well for me and my budget! Awesome video tho!

Being able to stow the straps away is also great for placing the bag neatly into the overhead storage areas of planes and trains or if you need to put it the baggage compartment of the airport or sightseeing bus.

I feel like a bag would definitely be easier to tote around than a big suitcase, which I feel only does well on airport floors. Love the video!

Generally 7kg carry on allowance here in Asia, with this bag you've got a large 45l capacity but only 3.5kg spare once you put in your laptop. Nice as it is smaller and lighter is more practical forme dealing with weight restrictions and carrying even minimal photo gear.
@KenshoQuest Жыл бұрын
The July Carry On Light is marketed as weighing 1.8kg and comes in at 2kg on my luggage scale. So there is a rolling suitcase that weighs about the same as the Pakt backpack. I got the July Carry On Light specifically for flying on airlines with a 7kg weight limit. Now on to watch the rest of your video... 🌺Heidi

EASY!!! Everyone outside of the US will have to disagree, so we will by far outnumber the ones who agree… 😂 But yeah, it‘s a shame that their bags are unavailable outside of the US (unless you are willing to pay double the price for the bag, because of all the import fees and whatnot).

Really glad see how much they upgraded this bag to version 2. I’m just incredibly disappointed I was one of the early adopters of the v 1 with its many shortcomings. ALWAYS plan on doing some real world traveling soon after your purchase of a bag in this price point with the limited return policy.
@ariesmry Жыл бұрын
It definitely may be best for the ytber (and I suspect there is a partnership hence the infomercial feel), but for everyone else, definitely know and understand your needs before investing in a bag this pricey. So this feels a bit balanced, I’m going to share my experience w v1, which isn’t all that different from v2. I own v1 and v2 doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade. For one, I suspect they padded out the shoulder straps even more, bc v2 does not come with a hip belt. For that price tag, I’d rather have a hip belt than not, and V1 came with one. I also carry a small packable backpack, so the extra compartment is unnecessary. After traveling for a while, I realized I preferred my own container/organization method, so all the different compartments became unnecessary for me. I could pack a black hole and feel just as organized. I carry a small crossbody with me, so the tsa flap (where the hip belt used to be) is completely unnecessary. The weight of the bag is a drawback. As he points out, the bag, completely empty almost weighs 5 lbs. I haven’t flown an airline that has a weight restriction, but if I did, this would not be my go-to bag. More importantly, if you plan on carrying this bag for substantial periods of time, you may start to feel that weight. Pakt was the first bag I purchased when I was excited about the idea of one bagging (but not truly practicing it). Even though it’s bulky for my needs now, I loved the external minimal aesthetic of it and that it didn’t look like a hiking/backpackers bag. It packs like and has the size of a small suitcase, it’s just lighter as far as materials. There have been times when I would have preferred a suitcase w wheels over the bag. I got it during a time period when I was still overpacking and including bulky items, so I never really noticed the weight. When I got more efficient with my packing and thoughtful about my purchases/items I own, I stopped reaching for the Pakt. I now carry a backpack that is small enough to pass for a personal item and lighter in materials. I’m considering selling v1, or keeping it around for if I do long-term cold-weather traveling that require hiking boots.

For me there is a number 6 - that you can stow away the straps so it only looks like a backpack when you are using it as a backpack So I own the AER Flight Pack 3 for trips up to 1 week and the Tom Bihn Techonaut 30 for 1-4 weeks

Looks interesting and well designed. Thanks for your thorough review. I have a few questions if you happen to read this months later - or someone else who owns one... - How is it holding up after months of use? - Will either size bag fit under an airline seat, at least when not fully expanded, or do I need to stick with the day pack for that? - How is the water resistance, would you rely on it for walking in the rain for an hour or so or does it need a cover? - finally at $300+ it's a bit spendy, what's your closest alternative that's in the $200 or less price range?

Peak Design Everyday 20L is king. Put it under the seat in front of you and you will quickly see nothing can beat it. The ability to get to stuff easy and fast with that top is the best. Owned it sold it, used other bags and then missed it and re-bought it.

I'll stick with my trusted Osprey Farpoint 40L bag.....
@danielpearson49724 ай бұрын
jaymeez. I agree on the Osprey Farpoint 40. I fly EvaAir from Seattle via Taipei to Cebu philippines regularly. They weigh my bags. Many people are using wheeled hard sided carry-ons which weigh 7 lbs empty. The Farpoint has a waist belt and load lifter at the top. Also I have the Porter 46 which is great. Use business class as it is a 15 hour flight.

But they are uglier. Osprey can’t make a stylish bag which looks good in the city.

@@danielpearson4972 I recently took EVA Air to Bangkok with a layover in Taipei. I usually fly United out of San Francisco, but EVA had a more convenient flight time for me. My only complaint which is a big one is that EVA doesn’t let you select your seat like United does. Let me clarify, EVA will let you select your seat after you book the flight but for an additional fee. This pissed me off so bad but I’m not upset anymore. I went to the counter at each leg of the trip and told them I would volunteer to sit at the emergency exit and it worked for one leg and the other legs I lucked out and was able to switch out of the dreaded middle seat to a isle seat without extra charge. Suffice it to say I will be flying United going forward. I refuse to sit middle seat in economy for all those house and EVA makes it a possibility that I may have to do that.
@danielpearson497222 күн бұрын
@jaymeez I refuse to do anything with United. My company booked me a me flight from Chicago to Salt Lake and was viewing baggage being load and a man cut open my bag and stole electronic equipment and I filmed it. Turn this in and the man was an African and told me I was a racist and pulled me of the flight. Went to another airline. I consider United a very racist airline never had issues selecting a seat I travel 2 times a year on EvaAir to Cebu-Mactan from Seattle with a 3 hour layover

Always seems unfair that some airlines will charge a 100 lb person for an overweight bag but a 300lb person within the bag limit would pay a smaller total cost of travel. Nevertheless great video as always.

@@plumairalbannach8492 they implied it was unfair, it is not. I get not wanting to sit next to bigger people on flights, but no one is charged for the weight they take up as a person. There is no metric for that as an added cost, a light person with an overweight bag is just someone with an overweight bag.

YO, this just randomly appeared on my feed so i watched it. This is quite impressive. I think one other thing I would want is the ability to unattach the middle divider where the laptop goes and place it in front or the back as well. Sometimes having the option for larger bulkier items has been beneficial and I've been using peak design stuff because that has given me the best versatility, however, that middle divider is something I also have enjoyed in other bags..

Thank you so much for introducing this bag as I never heard of this brand. It does seemed like the perfect bag. It seems difficult to find a bag without using those waterproof zip with coating which starts to pill over time, loses its function and looks horrible. It also has a ok looking logo. I know. I’m very picky and I found a lot of bags out there got an ugly logo… and I love the fact that this bag also got a hidden pocket! I don’t know why it’s so hard to find similar design.
