Things I never knew, Jim Palmers nickname is 'Cakes' LOL. I am sure I knew but just blocked it out in favor of nicknames like Louisiana Lightning and The Hoosier Thunderbolt LOL. Fine job as always my friend.

Thanks for the review, I see similarities to the old Pursue the Pennant here. I saw on the website that there is a free 'assistant' which can be downloaded and eliminate much of the chart lookups. That seems appealing to me, have you check that out?

Hi Glenn! I like Triple Play a lot. After I got used to knowing where to find the chart info that is needed, my games were between 35-45 minutes.

This is an easy enough game to learn how to play. My chief concern with it, is that as a 50-50 game, it cannot properly account for the extreme stats that certain players may display. Take a Nellie Fox card, for example. His batter's card would have 0 strikeouts in almost every season, but that would not be low enough to combine with an average pitcher's card and keep his ultra low K% of about 2%. In order to combine a 0% batters card with an average pitcher's card, the pitcher K% cannot exceed 4%, and the average pitching card from that era would have a K% around 13%. Since (13+0)/2 = 6.5%, Fox would strike out 225% more frequently than he should. Thus, the answer to having an accurate 50-50 game is to have a modifier to allocate some of those Pitcher K's into something else. The same thing comes up when you have a Frank Taveras facing a Bert Blyleven. Taveras couldn't hit batting practice fast balls over the fence. He was a Baltimore chop and run hitter, who took advantage of playing on carpet. If Taveras appeared 550 times against Blyleven, he would hit 10-15 homers due to the pitcher card. In reality, instead of hitting 2 or 3 homers in 550 times at bat, if Taveras faced Blyleven in all 550 appearances, he would probably hit one or two extra homers and possibly no extra homers. My upstairs neighbor and friend has a game in development that is 50-50 but with modifiers to prevent these anomalies from upsetting the likely statistical outcomes. I hope I can force him to put it out this Spring. I am going to help him reduce the paperwork and printing necessary. As for a request, I would love to see the 1927 Yankees play the 1939 Yankees in a 7-game series. I know it isn't possible, but I would love to see a 1967 AL season replay. I contend that had the White Sox removed the deep lcf to deep rcf inner fence at Comiskey that year, they would have won enough additional games to win the AL pennant.

Wonderful post. I agree wholeheartedly about your analysis of the 50/50 sim. I’m having fun with TP, but certainly recognize the limitations. Your friend’s sim sounds great to me. I’m very interested. Hopefully you can make progress there. I’m currently working on a new Great Teams set for Pine Tar that includes both of those Yankee teams. I’ll definitely do that series when the set releases in 2021. I’m also a big believer in the 67 White Sox. The question I have is about the late season additions of Boyer and Colavito, and their impact. Thanks for your ongoing support!

Hello! I believe that is true on the season sets-but if you order the playoff teams only you don’t get all of the players who played. I ordered the whole set for 1993 and they were all there.
