What's your opinion on using smaller machines for diy block paving/slab cleaning? I have a karcher hd5-12c, 2.2gpm (500l/h) 1600psi (110bar) and when looking at charts I think I need 1.8tips, so by the time I go to the 02 tips which are the smallest I can find, will I have enough pressure? I've not yet purchased a rotary cleaner (will only be a cheap one) but the more I look into it and compare against the numbers that petrol jetwashers produce I'm wondering if it'll clean my floor at all? Brill video btw, it's actually the most useful explanation about what's what and why, that I have come accros 👍

Here is the correct information regarding nozzle sizes The sequence of numbers on a nozzle are as follows. 15 indicates the degree of fan and 04 indicates the size of the orifice. IT DOES NOT MEAN 4 GALLONS PER MINUTE. The two factors that determine nozzle orifice size are pressure and gpm. For example, 2.5 gpm@ 1500 psi would require a size 4 orifice. 4 gpm @ 4000 psi would require the same size 4 orifice 5gpm @ 6000 psi would require a size 4 orifice. So as you can see 04, 04.5, 05 .....does not indicate gpm. It simply indicates the size of the orifice. I am an authority on the subject because I invented the spinner in 1991. The original and the best for professionals is the Steel Eagle 30" adjustable spinner with a Deublin union. Regarding concrete; there are three layers to concrete. The top layer is called the fines, below that is the sand belt and below that is that aggregate. Concrete ranges in strength from 2000 psi to 5000 psi on most surfaces that the typical pressure washer contractor would run across. It would be very difficult to damage the fines layer on 5000 psi concrete unless you are using an extremely powerful machine, conversely, it would be very easy to etch 2000 psi concrete with a machine that produces 1500- 2000 psi if you get the nozzle too close to the surface. That applies to the wand and the spinner.

Great advice. I just picked up a used surface cleaner and it isn't working worth a damn. I have a Home Depot 4100PSI / 4GPM and have used it with rental surface cleaners. I have never been totally happy with the performance of 3 different surface cleaners and now this used one. After watching your video I have a much better idea why. My dump is set very high right now trying to figure out what is going on, but it is dumping @ 4000 PSI. As soon as I pull the trigger on the surface cleaner it drops to under 2000PSI and moving way too slowly, it is leaving stripes. So from what I gather from your video, I SHOULD be around 2000PSI with the trigger pulled and 2 jets, but I am about to go our and find our what spray jets are in it and the height they are set. 2nd issue is, I think the bearing is going in the surface cleaner. It squeals. I'm wondering if it is running at too low of an RPM. It does spin, but damned if I can even come close to counting the revs. lol... So I am thinking the jets should be 40o20 or 25. I am a handicapped vet with a bad back. I have to also figure out how I can extend the handle and trigger so I am not bent over. I am 6'3" and have a fused back.

Nice video...very informative. I’ll take a look at the bottom of my Hammerhead to see how far the bar is from the brissels and adjust if it’s too low. To be honest, I’ve had my Hammerhead for 5 years and ran whatever tips came in it and it’s worked well. I now run it with a 4000 psi 4gpm machine last year and did well. I looked at a chart online and it look like if I want to run 25 degree spray pattern and lower my psi to 2200-2500 I would use two 25025s? Is that what you would suggest with my machine? I’m looking at an 8gpm machine like yours but not this year....probably next.

By a pressure washer dealer. They put 2502 nozzles in checked spray bar height and said that it is all set up for max performance. With my machine. However they didn't give any guidance on if I should turn down my unloader or what my walk speed should be. Do you have any advice?
@ModernCurbAppeal
@ModernCurbAppeal 5 жыл бұрын
Walking speed will be determined by the surface you are cleaning and howl dirty it is. If you see swirls or stripes, it's too fast. I would install a pressure gauge and size up tips to get you in the 2500-3000psi range. Even good quality residential concrete will be given a rash appearance or have the topcoat removed at 4400

Alex Therrien I don’t think they make nozzles for surface cleaners any smaller than a 1.5 orifice, and at 18’’ for a 2.5 gpm you’re out of range for what it can push. You’ll need something around a 4gpm to push it.

"higher pressure" is kind of a misnomer when it comes to pressure washers or pressure washer tips? The Venturi Principle says that pressure actually drops in a restriction, but velocity increases, so pressure would only increase between the surface being cleaned and water coming out at a higher velocity.

I have a gp hammerhead. It came stock with 2520. Im running it on a 4gpm pump on 150ft of hose. Which tip do you recommend. I have seen some striping on residential concrete. I am new and just starting out.

What psi is your unit?

Sorry to be picky, but you last 2 numbers are absolutely not the gpm it is your orifice size. 40050 is 40 degree tip with a 5.0 orifice. 5lindustry standards say that 5.0 orifice is 1.45mm. Your math is right with 2 nozzles at 5.0 orifice with 8gpm being 2500 psi but had to mention a terminology correction

Also I was wondering, you say you have 8 gpm doing 10 feet 1 tip would be 16 times but 2 tips would be 32 times. Does a surface cleaner receive full gpm to each tip? So your 8gpm unit is putting out 16gpm total out of your surface cleaner?

All pressure washer psi is based off 4000 psi. A 3500 psi machine putting out 4 gpm will actually take a higher gpm nozzle to get that 3500. If you ran a 4 gpm machine it would actually try and put out more pressure.
