BYBLOS PROJECTION MAPPING -- Byblos, LEBANON The Byblos projection mapping show was a free open public event celebrating the history of Byblos-Jbail, a world heritage Unesco city known to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities of the world. Funded by the Eurpean Union and initiated by a partnership between ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme / International Augmented Med (I AM) and the Municipality of Byblos, the project was launched in an open call for proposals that Minus5 Architects and Studio Mr.White won after a transparent selection process based on criteria such as content creativity, potential for positive impact on tourism and technical innovation.
Our winning proposal for this non-profit project also included identifying the best heritage site in Byblos for the video mapping event. Though it would be the most challenging site, we chose the medieval citadel in the center of the old port for its floating situation offering for the projected visuals potential rich reflections over the surface of the water. The citadel's proximity to the premises the Byblos international Festival would also heighten the summer celebration experience for both the Byblos visitors and the festival goers. Each historical period of the city was depicted in a creative way capturing visually the essence of that time. A flow of sequences was carefully designed to take the audience into a series of unexpected visual cliffhangers keeping their interest peaking throughout the whole 6min show.
Coinciding with the Scorpions concerts at the Byblos International Festival, the projection event ran successfully for two days with overwhelming positive feedback from the audience and the media which led the event to be extended for a third day.

Je connais un peu Byblos, mais plus Yammouneh, dans la Béka (pour géologie). Byblos est une ville magnifique et douce, baignée de soleil et chargée d'Histoire ! Un peu chère mais bon, quand on aime on ne compte pas :) Les passionnés de vielles pierres, d'histoire, ou d'archéologie seront comblés. Un site empreint de sérénité. (lorsque les visiteurs partent) En plus beaucoup de gens parlent français. Le pays du cèdre est accueillant et chaleureux mais attention à ne pas aller n'importe où, c'est un pays qui reste "sous tension". Belle projection !
