could i use 2 yarn strands of normal size yarn? in the event I cannot get chunky yarn?

You definitely could give it a try. I checked the WPI for you and you should get 10 wraps per inch. You can also work up your chain and adjust it for a good fit. Just make sure your chain is an odd number of chains.

l dont understand l chain 45 its doesnt measure 20 inch

Hi, I'm not sure if you are measuring bigger or smaller than 20" but you can try adding or subtracting from the chain in multiples of 2 until you do have the 20" measurement.
