@@bykchoi this is amazing but can I ask a separate question... how do you get the confidence to do this? I feel as though I would never have the confidence because I suppose a lot of other people would want that job and therefore they could just let me go and hire someone else?

@@tokyodoru they won't sack you. What's the worse thing that can happen. If anything they will realise you are not a push over and recognise the ability to be assertive or fair even. By the way, I believe men a way more likely to just ask for a raise. And often they get it.

Focus on building strong relationships and and a good reputation! It was scary when I brought this up, but it helped to first talk to my manager, and then to talk to HR. The process is probably different at every organization, though!

I can‘t believe you picked my question, this is soo cool. You made my day! Thank you so much for your insight. I really like your videos - I‘m working in Management consulting but due to the current circumstances I really miss sharing my thoughts and expierences with people in similiar situations. Your videos help me a lot to not feel overwhelmed. Greetings from Germany.

Hello KChoi, love the video! And I hope I can be as articulate as you one day hahah. When you make the next Q&A, would you mind sharing some tips for early-level consultants on how to manage so many notes and information? Thanks again for making this one, really appreciate the tips on asking for a raise :)

I asked for a “Salary Adjustment” with a similar situation. I started Jan 2020 and no raises due to covid until today. They tried to give me a promotion but only 7% increase after 2 years of nothing. I told them I wasn’t satisfied and countered with a powerpoint “salary proposal.” I got a 25% increase 🤑

i don't think there's a lot of travel right now because of the pandemic! usually there's a lot of travel, unless you are a regional consultant and only get assigned to clients that are in your area.

I wonder what would be the reason if they didn’t give you the adjustment. Would they just reason that by saying we can’t adjust it to the market level becuase of your skill, achievement, performance etc?

lately, ive been having trouble justifying the hours against the salary. i really think our hourly is embarrassingly inhumane. how have you justified staying in consulting when you probably know there’s a job that can give you work/life balance?
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 3 жыл бұрын
i personally have pretty good work/life balance, but can't see myself moving to a big 4/mbb consulting firm because of what i've heard about the lifestyle. i think that's why lots of consultants end up moving into something else, but it all depends on your own priorities and goals!

Quick question on performance review: how much shall I fight back on unfair review comments before they see me annoying/difficult? I have discussion meeting scheduled but not sure if keeping disagreeing will make things worse
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 3 жыл бұрын
i think it's important to seek to understand where those comments might be coming from, so that you are going in with a mindset of always wanting to improve. it's always hard to get negative feedback, especially if you don't agree, but hopefully it's just some misunderstanding that can be fixed (vs. someone being malicious about their feedback/reviews)
@Emilyghe

@@bykchoi yeah had conversation with them and it was def misunderstanding... but I encountered situations where they refused no matter what lol. Thank you for the detailed response! 🥰

Do you think you had to lower your expectation on salary when you started the consultant job just because you changed your career path? If so, how did you manage that? As always loved the video!!!
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 3 жыл бұрын
yes, i lowered my expectation because i knew i was technically starting 'entry level' but with other working experience. everything is 20/20 in hindsight, but i'm glad i made that decision and eventually grew into my role! it was important for me to work for a company with a great culture and that i could see myself at for a while, so that was more valuable to me than my initial salary.

@@bykchoi thanks so much for your reply! I personally changed my career path after two years into my first job and started the second one with about the same salary level. I don’t think I would’ve taken the job if I had to take a lower salary level so you were so brave! But completely agree with your thinking behind it - choose the job that feels right, the salary and other benefits will definitely come along...! ❤️❤️❤️

this makes me feel like such a schlub. spent 10 years at my industry job not once asking for a raise - just coasting the last few years. finally decided i needed a change and now in consulting! perhaps an idea for a future vid would be to interview/gather advice for experienced hires coming to consulting later in their career? thanks for the vids!
