@@10tenman10 , You know almost every religion prohibits children out of wedlock. Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Islam. Except Islam, all religions allow existence of people who do not believe in the same thought process. I would say, it's dictatorship, not religion. Some guy who was born more than a 1000 years ago dictates your habits even today without any path to reforms. I'd say that religion shouldn't have existed in the first place.

You're right! Sometimes we mothers are hard pressed to take our husbands position when dealing with the children! In the beginning of my marriage, after children came, I would often tell my husband about his "gruff" voice...until I understood that gruff doesn't mean fussing, its just the way men talk. That's EXACTLY why we need two parent households. Sometimes he got in their butt, sometimes I did. It makes a good balance...

I stupidly raised three kids that were not mine, from toddlers to teens. I now am not allowed to speak to them. I don’t have a leg to stand on. Raising them was awful. I was spat at, sworn at, threatened with their ‘real dad’ all the time. (He was a punk btw) My rules and instructions were constantly over-ruled and ignored, because ‘why should they listen to me?’ It was hell. Trust a stranger on the internet, steer well clear of these women with kids. Do NOT do it, no matter what.

Many years ago I dated a single mom from Barbados. We moved in together and I was the de-facto stepfather to her daughter. Her real dad was semi-involved. He had her one, sometimes two weekends/month. But I was the one that was with her on a daily basis. I played with her, cooked for her, cleaned after her, drove her around, read her bedtime stories, and all that. One of the last incidents in our relationship was when her daughter was being a little brat in school. The teacher called and explained that she was involved in an incident with another girl and was being disrespectful to the teacher. I went to the school to pick her up and on the way home, in the car, I got a little stern with her. I was angry and disappointed and I raised my voice at her. I didn't think I was out of line because she needed to learn some things. When we got home her mom was furious with me. She explained clearly that it was not my place and that disciplining her was between her and her ex. After that, it went downhill. I just felt like I had all the responsibilities of a real father but none of the benefits. Her daughter and her mom would never see me as her real father. At most, I could be the fun uncle but still had to take care and pay for both of them. I am sure there are situations where this arrangement can work but for me, it didn't. I just didn't see the point of it. I decided to end it and look for someone I could start my own family with.

When i first heard him use the term "vetting" regarding men choosing a woman to marry I was so impressed. That is a sign of true intellectualism. It speaks to the process that everyone, men and women, should go through before a serious marriage proposal is offered. Typically that process only applies to one, the man. Men must recognize the need to scrutinize any woman being considered. Vetting also includes family and trusted friends being required to give their stamp of approval, or not. Here in the west we think it's all about us and what we want. Shows hownlittle we value ourselves and our families.
