Thanks for Video! You’re the man! I made this list so I didn’t have to keep going back and forth. Thought I’d share it here. Artificial grass install steps 1. Lot clearing/clean up 2. Flattening/leveling, screed 3. Install dividers/boarders 4. Apply Weed killer 5. Stake down Weed barrier 6. 1/4 “ crushed minus rock 2-3” deep 7. Screws Rock 8. Wet rock 9. Compact rock 2-3x (sledge for edges) 10. Cut rolls of grass as needed 11. Nail edges with Brad nails 12. Nail seam tap as needed 13. Apply glue to tape 14. Nail edges together 15. Cut any other excess edges as needed 16. Spread fill with spreader

I had to come back to this video to let you know that my husband and I tried your technique and laid turf this weekend. It came out looking AMAZING!! Thank you x1,000. I wish I could post the pictures here to show everyone. We did skip the step of the rocks & paste mixture, and only did rocks and dirt, and compacted that. For the most part we have a nice smooth finish, my guess is that over time we may have some dips here and there. Nevertheless, I'm 100% happy, and I hope that anyone considering laying down turf, finds this video.

In Scandinavia, the popularity of artificial turf is so great that it's causing a huge disposal problem. It doesn't degrade. It's not recyclable. There are literally mountains of stacked-up used rolls of artificial turf. Before installing artificial turf think about where it goes after it's been used or worn out.

@@lechatbotte. , a volcanic eruption does not put out more CO2 than mankind, but that's ignorance for you. Someone memed that falsehood, idiots latched onto it, but it's been thoroughly debunked. You should pay better attention. Volcanos emit about 200 million tons of CO2 yearly. Human activity produces about 24 billion tons yearly. The oceans emit CO2 (decomposition) and absorb CO2 (aquatic plant growth) for a net change of zero. The same is true of forests. Trees decompose, they emit CO2. Trees grow, they absorb CO2. Humans produce CO2, and never absorb it back. The plants have to absorb it, but then the plants eventually die, and release all the carbon they had absorbed.

Like 7 years ago, we were in a drought in California and our landscaping company would get a lot of requests for synthetic grass. This is so much god damn hard work, I hated working on artificial turf. It usually required a few weeks of work and is so expensive, mainly because the artificial turf is expensive. But at the time, California was offering grants to make your garden drought resistant.

I don't know if this is available everywhere but I live in Central Ohio and our county cooperative extension service sells the landscape cloth by the lineal foot from a 20' roll. The locals call it "cow carpet" because it is often used by farmers underneath gravel to create areas for cattle to keep them from beating the stone into the ground. It's cheaper than buying at the big box stores and eliminates multiple seams and reduces the amount of staples needed.

@@GrecoRider Well, in his particular case, he stated in the video that the lawn wasn't watered before, so there was no environmental impact. Installing plastic grass kind of made things worse. I won't judge the guy for wanting his house to look nice, but there's no gain for the environment here.
@RyanGrenz
@RyanGrenz 3 жыл бұрын
@@mateusssssss567 I feel the same way but I can see how it would be better for the environment to use turf. And it’s not just “plastic” like forever lasting, turtle killing plastic. But it is a concern still! But no more mowing even if he had used an electric mower. Don’t need to do maintenance on the mower. No chemicals on the lawn to make it look better and to kill weeds. I don’t think the water usage is a good argument, not just because he didn’t use much water anyways. But also because water is good for the environment, but overwatering or using a lot of water puts a lot of strain on the environment when it comes to getting the water to the property. I’d feel differently if it was on a well but assuming he gets city water it would cost a lot too. But I feel like having natural grass would be better for plant life/insects/animals. For me I would want real grass, even if it doesn’t come out this “perfect”. I guess it really just depends on what the person wants or what they feel is best?

I love my turf since I installed it a few years ago... but... there are a couple of things I wish I'd known before hand. Turf doesn't absorb the heat like grass does. The synthetic material acts like a barrier reflecting sun and heat back up. In Texas the heat can be unbearable. Being outside mid-day is at times impossible because the reflected heat from the turm makes it stifling. Also, the smell for the first few months was hard. This stuff is rubber and plastic so it off-gasses. With my asthma it was a challenge but worth it. Additionally, no one talks about the fade and dulling factors or the slip factor. When it's new, it gets slippery when wet, so if you are on an incline watch out. And because it is plastic it oxidizes and starts to lose a little color. I couldn't afford to do the whole yard at the same time, though I'd purchased all the turf at once, it was the labor that killed me. When I installed the next section one year later there was quite a difference. I used some conditioners that helped blend the two and wished I'd done it from the start because sine then the newer section has faded very little. So in the long run I would do it again, but would plan better for the shortcomings of turf because there are a few.

@@mptemplin The heat transfer is so much different than grass. You can feel the heat radiating from the turf while sitting in the shade near the edge of my patio. Grass actually helped keep backyard cool. We had dirt only for a few weeks and the heat is far greater than when the grass was growing.

Now you gotta do the same to the backyard lol I am definitely using this video as reference to do my front and backyard. Living in Arizona is too difficult to keep your lawn nice and green during summer. You have to use waay too much water. And just having rocks looks really boring. So I want the synth stuff that doesn't get damaged easily with the heat here but also doesn't get extremely hot with sun shining on it all day.

Questions: 1) how do you clean up any debris or leaves that fall on your lawn? Vacuum? 2) won't you or your pet accidentally ingest some plastic pellets when rolling around? 3) a bbq or passerby's lit cigatette would prob burn a hole. Patchwork is feasible? I've wanted this in a backyard, but first time I've seen a front yard with it. Nice job.

At 2 in deep a cubic yard of material(mulch) will cover 162 square feet. You have 810 square feet. However because you're doing a small Stone it doesn't cover the same as a mulch or a larger Stone. So the ratio is slightly off when you look at charts online. Cubic yard of mulch will cover more than a cubic yard of stone because the stone is more dense the pieces are smaller so it packed tighter. So when buying small Stone the ratio is a little smaller closer to 120 square feet. Same for dirt/loam.

Wow Bro! You did an AWESOME JOB on this diy video. There’s no doubt this video would definitely give someone everything they need to know about installing an artificial turf lawn. I had no idea that there was so much prep and items needed to do this correctly therefore I think I’m going with an Arizona DG landscape instead. That you for the great video. 😎👍🏼

I'm baffled that anyone actually thinks this looks appealing or even real. Sure you aren't watering or mowing it, but this turf will eventually need to be replaced and just end up in a land fill. Great work none the less.

Don't know how this stuff will make its way into the ocean from my house but I understand what you're getting at haha.
