I've got an Amsoil bypass on my Cummins. Just had the oil tested after 15000 KMS and it came back perfect. They advised to run it another 15000 KMS and test oil again.

Baldwin B154 "absolute" is 15 microns which means it will filter 98.75% of particles larger than 15 microns. The nominal filtration rating, which indicates the filter's efficiency at capturing a certain percentage of particles of a specified size, varies according to different sources: One source reports a "nominal" rating of 2 microns, suggesting the filter can capture 50% of particles that are 2 microns in size. Which is pretty darn good.

Nice video. On 3 liter to 8 liter diesels I’ve run twin TP filters in series the second off of tees from first. I use a metering valve off of the source . When I fitted the system on a dirty crankcase , I pulled a black sludge out and turned the oil to a black tinted clear. A must addition to a diesel.

The error most people make when evaluating bypass oil systems is immediate dollar cost vs. overall value. People rightfully so, but too much, concerned with how much a system costs initially, and they underestimate the overall value to a person, in terms of value, over time. Having a car run significantly more miles with better performance, significantly less wear on parts, overall longevity, obviously using slightly less oil, changing it less often. What is the value in terms of new cars not financed, repairs not needed, and even the freedom factor knowing that you are less a victim of the new car market and all that entails, at least far less often.

In 1963 I was working in a Standard full service station. We checked everyone's oil. I commented on this guys golden oil. He pointed to his Frantz oil cleaner and said use one of these and Delo. You wont need to change your oil and your engine wont wear out. The manager said he is a Standard oil engineer. I remembered seeing a Frantz brocure in the grocery store bulletin board. It had two knobs on top. I got the newer over center clamp. I was using Delo. It was about 29 cents a quart in the discount stores. My oil went from black and dirty to golden. All I have now is top loaders. Toilet paper doesnt fit the Frantz now. You can use it if you know what you are doing. With the top loaders you just get the diameter right and push it in. They have the bigger seals. I like the Australian Jackmaster Classic The old Ford 390 has a over 50 year old Motor Guard on it. The others are Gulf Coast juniors and newer Motor Guard compressed air filters modified to filter lubricants. A flat head Ford V8 canister filter converted to use a full roll of Scott 1000 for the diesel tractor.

@@ralphwood8818 Ive been looking at the Motor Guard compressed air filters and would love to convert them to filter lubricants. I like that package. I have 2 frantz originals and one refiner. The refiner is the best design I have seen.

@ralphwood8818 Жыл бұрын
@@orthopraxis235 All the Motor Guard needs is a flat spacer at the bottom and top to put a little squeeze on the core and an orifice. At one time I thought they needed a center tube like the Frantz. The Australian Jackmaster Classic has no center tube. They depend on a firm roll such as Scott 1000 or the Jackmaster Classic element to keep the tp core from collapsing.
@ralphwood8818
@ralphwood8818 Жыл бұрын
@@orthopraxis235 Some are using the Motor Guard with the stock plastic internal parts. They wont melt but will eventually deteriorate. The origional filters were all metal. I still use the Gulf Coast junior. It is glass filled nylon. With stainless steel hardware. They might be out of production. Saw one on a Humvee years ago. I think the big paper towel filters are more lucrative. A Frantz dealer came out with the little filters when the Frantz filters went out of production at some point. Its a tough business. Most people think proper maintenance is allowing the oil to get dirty then draining it.
@orthopraxis235
@orthopraxis235 Жыл бұрын
@@ralphwood8818 I really appreciae all that information. Have you seen the Frantz refiner? Ed Greany in Pinion Hills Ca produces them. It's a Frantz design, but it takes a whole roll of scott 1000 and doesn't need a center tube. OIl drains to the bottom and leaves the filter dry if mounted upright. There are cooling fins in the middle of the unit . I have two older ones and one refiner. Ill take another look into the Motor Gaurd with the modifications you mentioned.

About water in the oil, water is a product of combustion, and combustion products to blow by the rings into the oil because ring seal is not perfect. This is why we have PCV valves. The only way to keep water out of oil is to make sure that when you run your truck, make sure that the short runs are kept to a minimum and that the oil is frequently allowed to come up to full temperature. That will "boil" off any water which will then be evacuated by the PCV valve along with the other gasses in the crankcase.

what about using the oil return from the bypass as a supply line to your turbo? maybe not with a journal bearing turbo but with a ball bearing turbo, Ball bearing turbos require alot less oil and often times you have to run an oil restrictor because too much oil flow through a ball bearing will cause oil to leak through the turbo seal on the exhaust side. So it could be a double win, you use highly filtered oil to feed your turbo and you utilize the turbos oil return back to the block, do more with less.

I’ve always believed in the benefits and used bypass filters on all my rigs. I’m getting ready to do one on my 12v. Could one just use an oil sandwich adapter with an in and out port for the feed and return of the bypass filter?
@orthopraxis235
@orthopraxis235 2 жыл бұрын
IF you pickup from the oil sandwich adapter, it's best to return to either 1. the top of the engine where your add oil (purchase another oil filler cap for emergencies, drill a hole in your current cap, install a swivel filtting for your bypass return line), or 2. punch hole in oil pan and return the oil there. I think if you return and pickup from an area too close by you may have flow issues and mixing issues where things won't run as effectively. I have seen a lot of install guides from various bypass filter systems and NONE have both pickup and return coming from and back to the sandwich adapter. The 2 methods I mentioned are ALWAYS mentioned .
@ralphwood8818
@ralphwood8818 Жыл бұрын
The 2 port sandwich adapters work great if you can find one that fits the Cummins. If you have an oil pressure gauge and the oil pressure is good and the bypass filter gets hot you are good. Put one on a 12 valve Cummins fire pump at work.That was years ago when I had to have a machine shop make a Cummins nipple to fit the Perma Cool sandwich adapter. In the 60s I used Frantz 2 port sandwich adapters. They didnt work for small engines. They depended on oil flow being high enough to create a pressure difference. On the small engines like my lawn mowers I put a 1/8 inch pipe plug in one port of the Frantz and returned the clean oil to the drain port. The lawn mowers take a 3/4 16 thread such as most Fords and Toyotas. I dont know if Frantz still makes 2 port sandwich adapters.The oil cooler sandwiches work the same.

I have 3 gas vehicles with bypass filters. Scott 1000 1 ply works just fine its like 1.00 per roll. paying 36.00 for kleenoil filters that seems a bit nuts...but hey...the filter company has to turn a profit. Running 3 Frantz filters, oil analyics have been perfect. Gas vehicle mileage full compression (tested): 370,000; 205,000; 210,000. That's what a decent bypass filter can do for even gas engines. For 3 to 500 bucks you can essentially bulletproof your engine from wear, and possibly save money on oil changes. But the value is in having analytically clean oil 100% of the time, the Frantz also picks up excess water in the oil. Most people wont get it.

Saw some Scott 1000 individually wrapped at Walmart. It has the 1 1/2 inch core in case a Frantz user doesnt have the sleeve for the Frantz tube. Its a little softer than the Scott 1000 in the multi packages. Similar to what we used in the 60s. The top loaders have the larger seals for the bigger tp cores. You push the core down against the seal and put on the lid. Frantz is the last one that breaks at the bottom as far as I know.

My 64 Rambler flat head 6 came with a spin on bypass filter. The oil was always dirty and black. I solved that with a Frantz oil cleaner. Saw a Car Quest filter that fit it advertised at 10 micron. The Australian Jackmaster Classic claims 1 micron. I happen to kmow they can beat that. We tested the filters with lamp black. Lamp black is smaller than 1 micron. Motor Guard claimed 1/10th of a micron with 2 ply toilet paper. Now they have a high dollar element for instrument air and painting. They still claim submicronic. In the 80s Amsoil had a submicronic filter. They had Bobby Unser saying this oil change is forever. Probably too good and too expensive. Tell people they dont need to change oil isnt smart. They think oil is supposed to get dirty and be changed
