Very profound insight about how we project unto life and do the exact same thing unto death. Incredible it is to begin to understand that all we are seeing are our own projections (rather than reality, as it is). Beyond those projections all is new, all is now. Even the past is a projection unto the present. Is that one of those things one sees that she was saying is shocking? For me it certainly is!

That man would not have killed his wife had he not projected on her. And then he probably had lot of anger in prison blaming her for his actions. Then when confronted, he probably also felt guilt that he cannot bring her back. All of these are projections. Katie is referring to that he is in prison but the suffering from his mind is a bigger prison. Without the thoughts, he became free-er in prison. And sure, one can argue if these are now my projections on him. But the question still remains - What is the biggest issue in your life that causes you to suffer? Is it the external circumstance or what you are thinking and believing at that time?

One good example I like to share with people... 'Imagine you are working at a company and you love your job. You get X amount of salary, boss is amazing and the colleagues are fantastic. And you love the work. So, you are very happy. One day, the boss comes over and tells you how amazing you are and revenue is going up and he wants to increase your salary by y. You were happy, now you are even more happy. You tell your wife, you make big plans. 3 weeks later, your boss comes to you and regretfully says that the company made some bad projections on revenue and at the moment they need to pause all raise. So, you are back to salary x. The boss still is very kind and he will do his best to increase your salary as soon as they can. Question - Are you happy like in the beginning or has something changed? Did the circumstances change or what happened?'

Death is an interesting and tough one. If someone you love dies, you want them back. But the question to ask is do you really want them back for them or you want them back because you want that relationship back with them? I mean we feel sad for people we like when they die. We don't feel sad for people who are horrible when they die. Why? Because our relationship is what matters and that is what we project. We want our world to be back to the way it was because that person provided us with something - connection, love, experiences, joy, etc. If they die, we are grieving for ourselves and not for that person. Because you cannot grieve for someone who died. How do you know how they feel after dying? Whether they are somewhere else or just gone. Their grief has actually ended.

Why would one invalidate a persons emotion (including ones own )? Are emotions not as valid as ones eventual intellectual liberation? Free in prison?....please explain this form of liberation?......Is it possible we teach others what we ourselves need to learn the most?.....if so is that not a form of projection? If one is not a self proclaimed guru then are they made into one because others never question their position?....I would challenge this position as a singular persons opinion or point of view and that each of us must think through this position ourselves before we accept it!

@@michaelcook9612 Like, question her about her beliefs in a civilized manner. See, she has a belief which is fine. But it is not necessarily "true" or even "wise", these are just words. But it is her perspective. If you question my saying it is all right as well.

@osip7315 How does one contradict the clarity of 'now'? you could argue with reality - this is true. but wouldn't you have stress? i would. if i have stressful thoughts i can keep them if i want to but i'd rather have clarity.

@@blueredcross she's a bit "soto zen" really, too minimal, you can question, but you need a palette of answers already available to you which implies a lot of quality reading, solitude and you own "philosophical infrastructure" and the ability to shift context into more productive avenues of thought i've seen it in myself and i've seen it in others, people track too deeply in endless re-working of their own thought with "soto minimalism" and what byron katie is doing, is she is prescribing a method for others and you can't do that i don't want to come across as too hostile, she's got some clues

@@osip7315 honestly in my opinion she has something beautiful going on. I'm not saying everything she says or does is perfect, but I am saying she changed my way of thinking so much that I don't suffer nearly as much as I used to when I believed my stressful thoughts.
