I was 13 years old when this victory happened. I grew up a big BYU fan as my Dad always had BYU on most Saturdays. As this game was played in mid October, we were out hunting deer in the state of Idaho where I grew up and listened to the second half on the radio while we were driving around looking for deer. We all cheered and hooted and hollered as BYU beat Notre Dame. Was a dream come true for BYU to beat a program like Notre Dame.

No he didn’t; he wasn’t even Holtz’s first choice. Holtz wanted Tommie Frazier (a more suitable fit at QB) but he chose Nebraska and became a legend there. Further exacerbating the situation was the administration denying the admission of Randy Moss who would’ve been Pawlus’ #1 target and been a huge upgrade over the departing Derrick Mayes.
