BYU is upgrading the Campus Network Connections in the largest classroom buildings. The new design includes ...
• Complete wireless coverage for the entire building (classrooms, offices, common areas)
• Capacity for every person to have three wireless devices connected at once
• Capacity for every person to have 2 Mbps wireless bandwidth minimum, but higher if available
• Gigabit wired ports are available for order anywhere within the building
On July 26, 2013, we held an event where we invited faculty, students, support personnel and anyone else that wanted to come to our first completed building - the home of the Marriott School of Management (TNRB). We provided lunch and prizes. Every participant was required to bring 3 Wi-Fi devices, but was encouraged to bring as many as possible (more chances to win prizes).
121 people came to the event. Everyone had a great time and we all saw first hand that the new HD Wireless design was able to function to specification. In addition to the expected phones, tablets and computers, people brought Apple TVs, an Xbox, and even a Wi-Fi enabled watch.
This event wouldn't have been possible without my awesome team - every member of which got into the spirit and creatively fulfilled their role with style. A special thanks to Todd Berrett who photographed the event and created this video.

Shaun, The HD Wireless design includes everything from the building feed to the Access Points. We use Cisco routers, Cisco PoE GB switches in chassis, Xirrus wireless arrays, and also include building Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) for the wired ports. If you are doing a similar, enterprise design for a large buildings, I would be happy to share more details. The design is an important part, but the installation procedures and WiFi optimization are also a big part of making the design successful.
